We came to Catch specifically for happy hour, which is clearly listed on their website with no mention of it starting January 1. When we walked in and asked about it, the staff member was extremely rude and abruptly told us, "Happy hour doesn't start until January 1." I even pulled up their website and showed him that it shows happy hour starting now, and he still said, "Sorry, I can't do anything. I'll talk to management." No apology, no effort, no customer service. It was incredibly unprofessional, especially when the mistake was on their own website. We were ready to stay and enjoy a meal and drinks, but after that interaction? Absolutely not. We will not be returning. read more

Came here for dinner. I was surprised how good it was since the restaurant was pretty empty. Only a few tables were occupied. The staff was very attentive and really good at explaining what they have on their menu when we order our dishes it came out right away along with our drinks the food was very delicious and it was really good. My husband and I enjoyed ourselves a lot. We finished everything and had no leftovers. Halfway to the dinner, they came to light candle on our table and we had live music so the environment and restaurant was really nice and the music was also really romantic. We stopped by here for late lunch they were not busy . There was only one other table occupied by another couple. Ws got seated our server came right away to take our order. They brought us what looked like shot glasses with I think some kind of wine in them on the house along with drinks menu, but we don't drink so we decline it. We placed order I had the for Mediterranean fish & chips and Smoked Salmon pizza salad. Even though they were not busy at all, it took a while for our food to arrived. I really liked the pizza it was with white sauce, covered with fresh arugula /tomatoes & goat cheese.The Mediterranean fish & chips on the other hand were nothing special could use some seasonings. This is the first five star review I have ever given! From the second we entered this lovely space to the moment we bid adieu, we were impressed. Mind you, we dine out often and are very familiar with the offerings in Carmel and the peninsula. It was a Monday evening in the off season so we knew it likely wouldn't be crowded. We had made and canceled reservations at two other restaurants nearby. They neither one fit what we were seeking. The third choice was truly magical! Florencio greeted us at the door and ushered us into the interior of this well decorated space. Delicious sourdough bread and an olive oil/balsamic blend were quickly served. As we perused the menu, two small glasses of champagne and two spoons laden with cavier were presented, gratis. What a lovely surprise! We each ordered a cocktail, an Italian Margherita and a gin and tonic, the smoked salmon and a caesar salad for starters. When the first course was complete, we both decided on the double lobster tail with potato gratin and vegetables and each ordered a glass of the Carmel Road Pinot Noir. The lobster was succulent and perfectly prepared! We thoroughly enjoyed the roving guitarist as we ate our dinner. After we finished our meal we both decided that dessert would be too heavy. However, before long a perfectly portioned small plate of baklava appeared, again gratis. We have dined multiple times at their sister restaurants, Demetra and PortaBella, both divine. The atmosphere is really great. They bring in a singer/ guitarist most nights which I love. I was really craving fish so we came here, but the crab cakes were very "mayonnaise-y" the oyster shooters were not all created the same? Frankly I'm not sure what the combination was as they were not even, nor did they taste the same. The salmon was very flavorful and the presentation was nice. Everyone else ordered very nice dishes so maybe I need to try something else. The waiter came by frequently in the beginning and not much later on. read more

Now I understand why every other place was fully booked with a wait time of 30 mins and this one was completely empty with just one other family. My husband and I were walking past this place when the person working at the door of the restaurant approached us to come in for lunch and we decided to try this spot. I got the lobster roll on a bread and he got fish and chips. The lobster roll was so gross.. it was cold and tasted like store bought lobster that just got thrown on a piece of bread. I ended up eating the piece of bread only. I even asked the waiter after the first bite if they can change the food cause I could not eat it and he said no they'd have to charge me for whatever I get. read more

If you want to order burger specify how well you want it cook, otherwise it will be on a raw side, which not great if you order it for kids. Fish and chips were decent, came with delicious sauce. Clam chowder was very bland lacking of flavor, salt, herbs, but came in delicious sourdough bread bowl, a bit stale but still good. The best dish was fish tacos with fresh veggies and palatable sauce! Confirming what is advertised in Yelp, they do greet each guest with glass of cold champagne and tiny spoon of black caviar (don't get excited it was not beluga,but cheap fish caviar that was colored). I will return to that restaurant it for the good but for the ambiance and interior with was absolutely magical and romantic! Besides the poor service (being waited on by 3 different people) and them charging for my birthday dessert that was supposed to be complimentary, my boyfriend ended up with awful food poisoning 4 hours after eating here. He threw up for 5 hours and was feverish and shaking all night. Once it was out of his system by the next evening he was back to normal. The manager gave us a refund for his meal (sand dabs) and our oysters (he only had 1 oyster because he isn't a huge fan) which was alright, but then had the audacity to tell me "my grandma says that sometimes when you eat something you don't like you can psych yourself into throwing it up." It was classic food poisoning and I've never seen him so sick, so I didn't appreciate the gaslighting. Also, if you're going to offer complimentary champagne and caviar, I would suggest coming up to the table with it and offering, instead of just putting it down and making us feel very uncomfortable when we said we're sober so we will pass on the champagne. What an amazing experience at this wonderful restaurant located right on Ocean Avenue in Carmel. Their wine list is amazing and well priced so do order a nice bottle to enjoy with your meal. We had the crab cakes for appetizers and they were one of the best we've ever had. For our entrees I had the Kampachi- grilled simply with salt and pepper and served with mashed potato and vegetables. Amazing!!! The Kampachi itself is such a flavorful fish that it doesn't need any marinade or sauce. The wife had the veggie pasta which she said was great. Dessert was skipped because we were too full but the mint tea in the end worked as a great digestif. Love this restaurant!! read more

It was particularly delicious when using the bread as a scooping device. *The Cioppino was too outstanding, as it had a shipload of seafood mixed into it (no crab), and the broth itself was delicious and full of great seafood and tomato flavor. The Meh: *Website claims to have "oceanview" dining. Hmm... ok, sure. :) *Carissa's Grilled Salmon Plate was a bit of a disappointment, as the fish was overcooked and the Potatoes au Gratin (side dish) were also dried-out. *Service was a bit iffy, as the server was nice enough and was trying, but he seemed to struggle with timing and consistency throughout the service. However, this might have had something to do with our seating arrangements. (See below) The Ugly: *They have this narrow hallway outdoor seating area (owner calls it the "outdoor alley") that's, to be kind, is sorta strange. You're kind of tucked away in a dark alley and feel forgotten about as it took nearly ten minutes before we were greeted, and throughout the meal requests weren't fulfilled and paying the bill at the end took a good twenty additional minutes. Service, ambiance, food & the entirety of the place is great! My husband and I were just walking around the streets of Carmel trying to get seated somewhere for dinner. Fortunately, they just started taking in guests when we pass by their restaurant and got seated right away. You first get greeted with champagne and a small dollop of caviar (WHO DOES THAT?) and then they also serve bread with dipping sauce (vinaigrette & EVOO) which is also so good and fresh and then ordered Frito Misto for apps which is SOOOOO GOOD!! (Portion was great also) Their pasta list isn't very extensive which I appreciate because they each dish they list on their menu is made with love and care. I ordered Fresh spaghetti with clams instead of linguine (they only have spag opt if you want another pasta alternative, and it's freshly made ;)] Hubby ordered surf and turd and he was so pleased with the quality of the meat and the lobster! My husband and I have eaten here a few times when visiting the Monterey Peninsula. The food is outstanding with incredibly reasonable prices for the freshness and quality. Start with some of the best fresh, fried calamari ever. And the Clam Chowder is legitimately the freshest, creamiest, bestest on the west coast. Service is great, with food coming out fast and hot, and they don't rush your meal! Mina is friendly and reads his customers well. I dined here with my boyfriend and our family during a short trip and while service was amazing, the food itself was definitely not. First of all, we did not know that Catch is the sister restaurant to Dametra Cafe right next door and has multiple of the same items. We ate lunch at Dametra Cafe that same day and were hoping for something new and different for dinner at Catch. In fact, we even got the same waiter, which was funny and he gave us absolutely top notch service, but it was disappointing to see the lack of variety between the two restaurants in terms of dishes. We ordered the oysters and were never told where they came from. They also did not taste very good, had a piece stuck to the shell on every one, and also made my dad throw up later that night. For my entree, I had the lobster risotto, which was so disappointing. The scallop on top was clearly far from fresh and was chewy and rubbery. It was clear they used pre-frozen scallops and I was not happy, especially with how close they are to the actual beach/ocean. My boyfriend and a few other family members ordered the Surf and Turf--the lobster was burnt and rubbery as well as the steak. Both of which I refused to eat after tasting a little bit of. My dad enjoyed his salmon and my brother said the calamari steak was okay. Overall, we will not be returning. read more

My date and I found this place on Yelp after we arrived in town too late to eat at our first choice. We got there ~45 minutes before they were supposed to close and were seated immediately. I didn't take photos but the interior is beautiful, especially the blue-lit ceiling which is adorned with hanging glass jellyfish lamps and painted(?) whales. The sunset lighting throughout the restaurant and live entertainment made for romantic ambiance. There are a lot of options to choose from food wise(sandwiches, pasta, seafood, pizza, etc.). Prices are comparable to most seafood places in SF and portions are large. Caviar + Champagne (house) -- This was my first time trying champagne and caviar, so I don't know what's good but both were amazing. The caviar was sweet and slightly briny, and the texture enhanced the experience. Bread + Oil/Balsamic Vinegar (house) Fisherman's Cioppino (4/5) -- Every component of the seafood was cooked perfectly although I was surprised they included salmon in theirs. Broth was flavorful. The bread felt unnecessary because they'd already brought bread out for us. The only off-putting moments were the couple of bites that had some sand in them. All American Cheese Burger (4/5) -- My date thought the fries were dry. The burger itself was good Only thing is that we ordered clam chowder and the staff must have forgotten about it. We forgot about it until the end of our meal and I asked a waiter if it was still coming. Mind you this was already past closing so we decided to not get it. We forgot to check until after we left, but they charged us for the chowder we never got. We had a day in Carmel-By-the-Sea and wanted seafood. After a brief Yelp search we found Catch, and I'm glad we did. It was exactly what we wanted on a gorgeous day - upscale, fresh seafood with outdoor dining (COVID is still a thing at this time). They started us off with a bit of champagne and caviar, then we ordered drinks from their drink menu: I had their black walnut bitters Manhattan, my partner had the sangria with fresh raspberries. On to grilled prawns and fresh oysters to start - a good contrast in flavor and technique - fire vs raw. The oysters were very light and the prawns had a good char and spice. I have a rule when I done - look for the menu item that doesn't fit - and here it was the prawns tikka masala. They were spectacular, paired with a Chimay Blue. Just the right spice and enough cream to add depth to the palette. My partner had the Crab Louie salad, which feature fresh romaine paired with very, very delicate crab. It turns out the aioli that came with the shrimp made a better dressing than their thousand island style house dressing. This was exactly what we wanted for a "heavy" lunch to avoid a "heavy" dinner on a Saturday night before traveling on Sunday. Yikes, honestly I'm not usually this harsh but this food was surprisingly bad. Granted I got take out, and we only got one seafood item, so maybe the other food is better but what we got lacked flavor, innovation, and freshness of ingredients. We ordered foods we thought might travel decently since we were hoping to eat our food at the beach at sunset; a pizza, burger and fish and chips. We got a Mediterranean pizza, that had artichokes, olives, and tomatoes with tomato sauce and mozerella cheese. The sauce had zero flavor, the dough was fat and doughy, and the ratio of toppings to dough was all wrong. The tomatoes on the pizza were not good, they lacked flavor and had bad mealy texture, the artichokes were obviously out of a can or jar and tasted sour and otherwise flavorless. I had hoped given how close they are to artichoke fields they'd have decent ones but I was sorely mistaken. I'm not going to lie, I was almost angry at how bad it was, felt like a waste of money and calories. The burger was bland and boring, as were the fries. The fish and chips was also bland, the breading was not crispy and the fries tasted like they had been sitting around and didn't have enough salt. The only reason I am not giving this place 1 star is because all the staff I interacted with while waiting for my order were friendly and considerate. The interior looked nice enough and is very conveniently located, the outdoor area is also heated and cutely decorated. Exactly what I had in mind and they delivered. Chose the Greek salads to start followed by the steamed mussels and clams in white wine sauce. Great breath. Not salty. Just right. The warm bread they serve with the balsamic vinegar with olive oil is nice to absorb the white wine sauce. I felt the tasted bread with cheese on top was too rich for me, but others may feel different. Satisfied after driving 4 hours and some change from Petaluma this afternoon. Noise level and music in the background are bother soft and relaxing. All tables are spaced out well. There are two non-gendered bathrooms that are roomy and clean. I had originally tried to get into Portabella next door, but the were all full. Apparently the same owners at this establishment. Staff are attentive, not pushy or disruptive. They are all wearing masks. When handling food, they are wearing gloves. There is outdoor seating available. I would say give this place a try. They have a nice selection/variety on their menu and prices are very reasonable for Carmel. read more

We did not have reservations but were fortunately able to get a table for two. I had a glass of the Carmel Pinot and the pour was very generous. For our starter we had the lobster cake which was cooked over corn. The lobster cake was tender with a nice crunchy outside. For my entree, I had the sand dab, which I was curious to taste as I had just seen some at the aquarium. The fish was cooked well, also tender and tasty.
