Was on a little mini vacation to the Santa Cruz area and decided to grab some coffee on the way home with the family in Aptos. We like to support local shops as going to the well known chains can get old sometimes. The place seemed nice inside and I think was pretty clean but had a strange feeling like something wasn't going to go well. Walked in and noticed on the menu board some sort of healthcare tax that would be assessed I was like oh, that's interesting. Since we were there I was like ok, we might as well get some coffee. So my whole family ordered lattes and other drinks. The person at the register seemed very unprofessional and rude, but I just ignored it as I cared more about getting some good local coffee. If you want a "venti" type size, you will NOT get it here. Their "large" is like other places grande. To make a very long story somewhat short, we took our drinks for the road and looked at the receipt. Sure enough a "health contribution" tax of 90 cents as well as a surprise "take out" fee of 25 cents PER DRINK. So extra charges right away. What's even worse about the whole thing, you ready? The drinks were absolutely awful and disgusting. First of all, one of the drinks had some cinnamon, well, we never ordered any drink with cinnamon. Next, the latte tasted like the milk was straight spoiled on one drink and another drink we had with almond milk was sour. It just had this horrible aftertaste. I have to say, this takes the award for the worst coffee experience I have EVER had. We all drank about 10% of the coffee and ended up throwing all the drinks in the trash. Personally my stomach hurt until I was able to drink some water. We ended up going to a Whole Foods in Los Gatos to get coffee there and it was 10 times better and almost 1/2 price. Do yourself a favor, skip this place and hit up somewhere else. I should have picked the reliable big coffee place instead. It was a very disappointing experience. read more

This is the kindest coffee shop anywhere ever. The staff is the sweetest! Always remember my name, make polite chit chat and generally don't seemed bummed to be there. My drinks are always good (however sometimes could be a smidge hotter) and I love their coconut chia pudding thing. Love this place. Thanks guys!! read more

After a day at the beach I found this super cute café and decided to try it. It has a super cute decor and vibe. Many delicious coffee and tea options, I order the creamy beige and fell instantly in love. The employees are super sweet and kind, they go the extra length to make sure you leave satisfied with your drink. I will definitely be coming here more often! read more

Great coffee and food. I ordered a vanilla oat milk latte my husband a cappuccino, and my daughters had a ham and cheese croissant. Great quality coffee and pastries. Due to COVID we couldn't go in, but from what we saw it definitely was immaculately clean. We will definitely come back when we visit again. read more

The friendliest baristas ever, always super quick service and they are genuinely kind. My favorite coffee in Santa Cruz. They really did their research and their sourcing practices are super ethical and supportive of the growers. Beautiful and delicious pastries from Compagnon Bakery. Their food options are kind of bougie (fancy avocado toast and whatnot) and I haven't tried, but look super good, and they also have all the alt milk options you could ever want. The only downside is it is a little pricey, but that's just Santa Cruz for you. read more

This place is great. The employees are really pleasant and lovely, the coffee is good and the avo toast is delightful. So why the missing star, you ask? Prices are already pretty steep, which I could live with, but I find the $1 markup on alternative milk a bit galling. (I visited another coffee shop that offered all their milk options at the same rate, and I found that incredibly endearing. Please consider it, C&C, you'll see a lot more of me! ) read more

When I saw all the new Aptos development getting underway, I hoped that Cat & Cloud would open up shop here. My wish came true and it's better than I ever dreamed. Same great coffee, but also the same cheerful and welcoming vibe from staff. Love the culture and ambience here. While I loved the original location, the digs here are much less cramped, has a primo view, and is easier to get to. read more

This was my first time coming to this location I've only been to Cat and Cloud one other time and neither disappointed! I love the set up of the shop they have both indoor and outdoor seating which makes it easy to work or hang out. The also have outlets underneath the tables which comes in handy when your laptop is out of juice lol the barista was extremely friendly and started off the convo asking me "what's my spirit animal". He was so warm and welcoming and I am normally someone that doesn't enjoy talking a lot but I really enjoyed his energy. I ended up ordering the chai latte with oat milk and the avocado toast. The avocado toast was delicious and a decent sized. It's topped with arugula and tomatoes and sea salt and portion wise filled me up. The chai latte was a good balance and not overpowered by the milk. I highly suggest to bring your laptop and work out of the space if your looking for a cool spot. Concern about appropriate sanitation. Observed one employee just rinse used dishes in cold water. No soap. Very poor acoustics. Even with just a few people in the room it was noisy. Great coffee and great employees, but horrible acoustics inside. In order to hear what the employee is saying you have to yell to speak up and the same goes for if you're there with anyone and want any kind of conversation. I couldn't even hear what the person who I was talking next to me was saying. They need some kind of sound proofing to lessen the echoing and noise level like decorative padding or sound room padding placed on the ceiling. Something. I really love the aesthetics and items that this cute little cafe serves. Everything is very tasty and in reasonable portions. However, my sister and I had one odd experience. My sister ordered the Coconut Creme and Berries which is her favorite. Sadly, they had told us they ran out of berries. Disappointed, yet still excited, my sister decided to keep the pudding and eat it anyways instead of asking for something else. About 10 minutes later, two other girls walk in and sit at the table right next to us and order the same thing, but they got berries!! Coincidence? Maybe. But it was a little suspicious they had suddenly restocked in berries so quickly. A few minutes later, an employee walks over to their table and we were able to witness this next shocking event because we were sitting right next to them. The employee then offers them another FREE Coconut Creme and Berries and says, "Hi, did you already get your order of Coconut Creme and Berries? Because we accidentally made another one." The girls answer yes and the employee just lets them have it for free, which was outrageous for several reasons. First of all, we paid full price to receive something that was missing one of the main parts of the title in the product. Next, even when they suddenly restocked in berries, they didn't offer us any berries on the side. Lastly, they offered an already satisfied customer with an extra FREE Coconut Creme and Berries, made right TWICE, and we didn't even get one complete Coconut Creme and Berries. I felt that was really unfair and I don't know why this happened but I'm hoping to receive better service next time because I want to come back here. read more

Out of all the cafes I've been to in the Santa Cruz area, they're my new favorite, hands down. They have great coffee, a variety of seating options, and plugs for doing work. The cafe is bright with a large window connecting the indoor and outdoor spaces which really embodies the SC vibe. The staff is super friendly and efficient, getting through the continuously long lines like it's nothing. Even though it's busy-it's new and awesome so it's understandle- it still has that neighborhood cafe feel to it. read more
