Last Monday 8/25 between 1:45-2:10pm myself, a coworker, and an individual that we serve (whom is on the Autism Spectrum) came to Peet's to enjoy some treats. Our friend enjoys people watching, particularly at cafés, and the vibe started off great! He got a chocolate chip cookie. It wasn't too busy, so he easily found himself a personal table where he had kicked back, placed his feet on the chair across from himself, and made himself comfortable. My coworker and I sat at the table next to him. Michael, (an employee at Peet's) had just started his shift. After ringing up a customer, Michael deliberately walked over, placed his hands on the chair, and physically pulled the chair out from under our friend's feet. He didn't even wait for an answer, or give him an opportunity to move his feet himself. What is the problem with a calm individual, relaxing at a coffee shop, with his feet politely kicked up on a chair, enjoying a cookie? Imagine the sensory nightmare it is (especially for a human on the spectrum) to have someone come up to you, and rip a chair out from under your legs for no good reason. He was not disturbing anyone, he is well groomed, and was just enjoying his time at a coffee shop like anyone else. We have gone to dozens of coffee shops of the years, vibed the same way, and have always been met with kindness, and felt welcomed. The staff is friendly and efficient and they always remember to put the drink stopper in my coffee so there's no spillage during the ride to work. I ordered what I thought was suggested by my friend... a large ice tea hibiscus.. what she was trying to encourage me to try was the fog version.. long story short I got the wrong thing by my doing.. I was in Peet's Coffee in Aptos,Ca after I did my grocery shopping in Safeway next door. Although the is Starbucks inside of Safeway I wanna get a Peets coffee to change my test. After I get my coffee sit at a table and start snack my chicken nuggets when I zip my coffee. The cashier/barista came and said "we don't let people dine here, you need to go out!", asked "why?",he answered "we don't serve lunch!". Any sense! I told him I'm diabetic and have gastritis, it's because I have to eat something and you don't sell chicken nuggets!". He said 'you can use the outside tables but not in store!'. He didn't say even a "please" .He embarrassed me in front of other people and employees. I went out but feel bad. If it's not discrimination Is there such a policy? If any why they don't make it visible? Can they hire polite people there? I don't think me, my family and friends step in this store again. I am not a coffee aficionado at all, but I do go for the Chai Latte and they carry soy milk, which some of the local shops do NOT. Have always enjoyed Peet's until they stopped allowing customers to use their restrooms. When asked staff directs customers who have paid money to use chevron or a grocery stores restroom. Could someone explain how pushing their customers to use the bathroom of another business that they are not customers of is helping during a pandemic. This would cause more social interaction. This is very poor covid practice and a poor business practice which is making me have a very different impression of Peet's and how well the share the burden and their role in this pandemic. read more

Nice large coffee shop. Very clean and well laid out. The decor is modern and it great shape. WiFi is slow and I was never able to connect to it even though there was only 4 customers. So excited to have Peet's Coffee in Aptos. I came in today, 7/7/19, and had an okay experience. I think the baristas here are still learning to make drinks, because our drinks were not very good. Cali was not the friendliest barista and seemed like she didn't really want to be there. Gabby, while she was friendly, didn't make the best drinks. We got a hot chocolate that tasted like it was made with water instead of milk... or maybe the pitchers may have not been cleaned properly. It tasted like it had left over chai flavor. My thought is that it was made with the unsweetened powder instead of the cocoa syrup. I definitely will come back as I am sure the baristas will get better in time.
