Been wanting to check this winery out for some time. The estate and tasting room are very nice. What I found with this winery is that it's a great value winery. Wines are solid and sold for a fair price. I was happy with all the wines I tried. We needed to taking a couple bottles home. Reds were solid. The wine pourers were really friendly and helpful. When in Paso Robles... My friend's family lives right down the street, and Castoro was one of their recommendations. A great choice, though I have no basis for comparison. It's only $5 for 7 tastings, and after the gouging prices at Temecula, I can hardly believe it. Every wine I tried was solid. I liked some a lot more than others, but that's personal preference only. They had quite the variety of reds, and our pourer was knowledgeable and fun. Added bonus: We also got to try the late harvest Zinfindel, which has ice wine notes without being quite as sweet. It was awesome, and there was no way we could leave without getting a bottle. Highly recommend stopping by Castoro whenever you're in town! read more

The grounds were very pretty, and the even have a dedicated wedding and event area. This one was extremely easy to find right of the 46 West, and pretty close to downtown. Since we were on our Paso Robles wine country wedding venue hunt, this one was definitely on our Top 5 list. The folks in the tasting room were very nice, although we didn't get a chance to meet an actual wedding coordinator/venue manager. We plan to stop back on scouting trip #2 next month. The tasting room is dog friendly, and there is a tasting Yelp deal also. So a solid 4 stars out of 5. read more

A great place to stop and relax! When your walk in you're greeted with a beautiful walkway lined with greenery/ivy. Standard wine tasting is $10 for 7 pours. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. We sat on the perfectly shaded outdoor patio. There were so many places to sit indoor and outdoor. The vibe was laidback which was perfect for our group. Visiting Cambria for the first time for a little R&R we decided to visit Castoro cellars. We should have called ahead to see if they were open but of course we didn't. We visited Castoro last week from Texas. I wanted to make a callout to our host Kathy who did a phenomenal job. We are wine members, but only get to the region every few years. We had 4 additional guest with us. Kathy is friendly, very knowledgeable, and welcomes questions. Of course the wine is great and a good value. We held a celebration for a friend's birthday at the winery, and all I can say was - it was magical. We held it in the evening on the patio and the setting couldn't have been more perfect. We pre-selected 5 or 6 different reds (including 2 library wines) and each one was fabulous. Judging by the amount of wine everyone bought at the end of night, I'd say we selected the right ones! I have to give kudos to Happy Saunders, the Event Manager at Castoro. She and I worked together for several weeks to plan the event. She had several great suggestions that really made the evening turn out so well. Plus, she was our onsite wine expert that evening and took excellent care of us. The wines here are good (wife does the tasting and I do the payin and drivin) but it is one of the more scenic and not too big wineries. Laid back tasting room and awesome views from the outdoor area with nice outdoor furniture to chill out in. Tried and like our first Zin Fusion and also like a SB. Prices were reasonable and used our 10% Yelp discount. Would recommend as much for the experience as for the wines. Hopefully be back with some friends. read more

We tasted wines at 10 wineries in Paso Over three days and this was our last stop. We really enjoyed Castoro. This was the most educational wine tasting so far. Sheri served our wine. Ask for her. Castoro probably suffers from being too conveniently located off of Hiway 46 and draws in a lot of "lookey loo" wine tasters. Their policy of free tasting for X (3?) wines and the nominal charge of $3 for up to 7 wines probably also helps draw in the traffic. Which may account for the fact that on a day when tasting room crowds were few at other wineries, tasters were two deep along the length of the Castoro tasting bar in their funky, friendly tasting room. We learned Castoro is beaver in Italian and beaver is the owner's nickname...and so "Dam Fine Wine" started to make sense as slogan. :-) In spite of the crush of revelers, ummm tasters, most of whom appeared to know not a thing about wine or care to learn, the two women at the tasting bar were very friendly and knowledgeable when questions were asked. When the guy next to us, who comes to PR on business about once a month and always stops at Castoro he says, suggested that the Port was really good and although not on the tasting list he was sure they'd pour it if we asked, we didn't even need to ask and the port bottle appeared (and truffles to go with it). A fun time was had by all, including us. We left with a bottle of 2006 Venti Cinque Anni (their silver anniversary blend bottling) and a 2007 Primitivo both of which we thought were "damn fine" and well worth the purchase. We'd probably go back to Castoro when we're in Paso Robles again but we have to say, honestly, we sort of like tasting fees as a way to limit crowds! read more

I ordered the white and red mix tasting and shared it with a friend. The white wines were crisp, clear, and light. It was prefect for a sunny California Day. My first time wine tasting and had a blast! 6 of us came over 4th of July weekend around 11am and were able to grab a spot at the bar. We had a choice of 7 tastings for $5 and that fee was waived if you bought a bottle. The woman there opened a bottle of wine and checked to make sure it was good, only to find that it was "corked". Instead of serving it to us, she immediately brought out a new bottle and taught us how to smell the cork/wine to tell if it's good or bad! That was such a learning experience for all of us. They also sold cheese and little packets of salami. Not sure if they sold other food but we were able to bring our own waters, snacks and salami. They have cornhole in the lawn and plently of places to sit and enjoy your wine and the view. The vibes and energy of this place were amazing and we all liked this winery and our time here. It's also very beautiful and clean! Also wanted to note that unfortunately, there are no real beavers but we all still had a great time. i would 100% recommend this winery to anyone who is in the area! read more

I actually didn't care for this winery much. It was our third stop on the Wine Line tour, and it was the only one on the scheduled stops that we did not purchase a bottle. First of all, the place was packed, which you would think meant that the wine was fantastic, right? Wrong. The wine was just OK, and service was lacking. Yes, the place was busy, but the staff merely poured without interacting much with the customers. I do have to say that the beaver on the label is pretty cute, though. And, the tasting room was stocked with lots of interesting accessories and gourmet foods. However, there are much better wineries in the area with better wine and better customer service, so I don't plan to return to Castoro on my next visit to Paso. read more

After a weekend of wine tasting and visiting 5 wineries in the area, Castoro Cellars was by my favorite winery. Nancy behind the counter was more than helpful and very friendly in answering all of our wine questions about Castoro and other neighboring wineries, and other activities to do in the area. The grounds at Castoro are one of the nicest I've ever seen...very beautiful. Large gift shop with a wide variety of gifts that go with the wine. Out of the flight choices, I really enjoyed the Barbera 2012 and took a bottle home along with some (pricey) jams for my mother. Would definitely recommend this winery if you're traveling in the area. Will be back! read more

I love this place!!! As a new wine club member, I get to enjoy certain perks. Like complimentary tastings and invites to the annual Wine Club BBQ (which I got to enjoy this past weekend). Prices for tasting is free for the first three, and then $3 for 7 tastings thereafter which is waived if you buy a bottle. This was the first place ever my boyfriend and I tasted wines. The pourer was helpful, informative and gave us a mini lesson on tastings. The first time we came here we bought a few bottles. The last time we came here we joined the club and left with a case of wine. The grounds are beautiful and the building itself is lovely. Go for the port if you go. And the Cabernet Sauvignon is also really good. The Tempernillo and Barberas are also noteworthy. As for whites, the Tango is good. Yes, you can buy some of their wines at Trader Joe's, but most of the stuff I really love you can only get at the winery or order online. Most of the wines they taste are strictly just that. We going this winery because our hotel 1 recommended them and the free tasting coupon we were given. Who doesn't like free?!?! Beautiful setting as so many places are here in Paso Robles. Place was busy as it was s weekend and they were participating in a wine/zoo thing. We waited a few minutes and found our spot. Our server Kate was knowledgeable and friendly. Chatted us us while we sampled their wines. We realized we both had/have lived in ABQ. Nice talk about hometown. Wines were great. Unusual blends and had a hard time deciding what to take with us. Cassidy is the most amazing person - she makes great recommendations (all the wine is good, but some varietals might appeal to your palate more than others, and she's adept at matching varietal with personal preference), and she's a great listener (wedding planning has me stressing a bit and she totally made time to listen - thank you!) Decent place but overall our group was not very pleased with the service. We came in with a large group of 14 so they ushered us into the 2nd tasting room which looks to be used for private functions etc and not into the normal tasting room. The tasting started out okay but the two ladies inside were having some sort of mid crises as our tastings progressed the quality went south quick as my gf was on her 7th tasting and I had barely received 2. Then a second large group came in and you can forget about me getting the rest of my tastings. We eventually just left. it was a good thing we decided to sit outside open up some wines (from different wineries) and have lunch. My GF actually told me should would have been pissed if i bought any from this place. None of the women liked the two older ladies that poured our flights and it made perfect sense as every time they would let them know a large group was coming they only asked if there were any good looking men in the group and if they were single. Love those place. Wonderful patio that is great for kids, dogs, or people who like a view. They have two tasting room bars which makes finding room at the bar easier. This was the wifes pick of the two cellars we went to (the other being my pick which was Justin) while in Cambria. I had not heard of them before but our neighbors brought a bottle over and we really enjoyed it. The facility is really neat, and I was told they had a pig, but evidently it passed a way several months ago.. The inside was really neat, having all the typical wine celler stuff like sauces and pastas. One thing I really appreciated, was the tasting fee was free for 1-3 tastes and $3 for a flight of 7, which would be refunded when you bought something... I thought that was a classy stance and ended up costing me $100 for 4 bottles.. Not too bad. read more

Friendly staff, gorgeous grounds, excellent wine! You will not go wrong visiting the beaver. Been here a couple of times and I never leave empty handed. The Trenta was the best blend I've ever had here. If it's available, do buy a few bottles. You can also never go wrong buying a jar of the Frog Balls. Those spicy pickled brussels sprouts were a knockout. Once you pry yourself away from the tasting room, wander around the property and spot the cats. read more
