While I can give high mark on the wine, the event caterer was of v poor quality. $14, for entree and salad provided extremely small portion of mostly starch (past w cream sauce, with only a bite of chicken). Half way though the line, they ran out of meat lasagna, and only vegetable one was available. Since concert attendants are asked not to bring food, I'd appreciate it v much if the Castoro event planner will in the future choose a caterer who can provide healthy (lean meats and vegetables in addition to just starch) in a reasonable portion sizes. read more

Visiting Cambria for the first time for a little R&R we decided to visit Castoro cellars. We should have called ahead to see if they were open but of course we didn't. The gates were closed and we were heartbroken. But we called on a whim and Sherry came to the rescue! She was so sweet and friendly. She helped us pick a bottle over the phone and delivered to us at the gate 5 mins later! What service!! We held a celebration for a friend's birthday at the winery, and all I can say was - it was magical. We held it in the evening on the patio and the setting couldn't have been more perfect. We pre-selected 5 or 6 different reds (including 2 library wines) and each one was fabulous. Judging by the amount of wine everyone bought at the end of night, I'd say we selected the right ones! I have to give kudos to Happy Saunders, the Event Manager at Castoro. She and I worked together for several weeks to plan the event. She had several great suggestions that really made the evening turn out so well. Plus, she was our onsite wine expert that evening and took excellent care of us. The wines here are good (wife does the tasting and I do the payin and drivin) but it is one of the more scenic and not too big wineries. Laid back tasting room and awesome views from the outdoor area with nice outdoor furniture to chill out in. Tried and like our first Zin Fusion and also like a SB. Prices were reasonable and used our 10% Yelp discount. Would recommend as much for the experience as for the wines. Hopefully be back with some friends. read more

We tasted wines at 10 wineries in Paso Over three days and this was our last stop. We really enjoyed Castoro. This was the most educational wine tasting so far. Sheri served our wine. Ask for her. My first time wine tasting and had a blast! 6 of us came over 4th of July weekend around 11am and were able to grab a spot at the bar. We had a choice of 7 tastings for $5 and that fee was waived if you bought a bottle. The woman there opened a bottle of wine and checked to make sure it was good, only to find that it was "corked". Instead of serving it to us, she immediately brought out a new bottle and taught us how to smell the cork/wine to tell if it's good or bad! That was such a learning experience for all of us. They also sold cheese and little packets of salami. Not sure if they sold other food but we were able to bring our own waters, snacks and salami. They have cornhole in the lawn and plently of places to sit and enjoy your wine and the view. The vibes and energy of this place were amazing and we all liked this winery and our time here. It's also very beautiful and clean! Also wanted to note that unfortunately, there are no real beavers but we all still had a great time. i would 100% recommend this winery to anyone who is in the area! read more

Cassidy is the most amazing person - she makes great recommendations (all the wine is good, but some varietals might appeal to your palate more than others, and she's adept at matching varietal with personal preference), and she's a great listener (wedding planning has me stressing a bit and she totally made time to listen - thank you!) Serene, classy atmosphere for wine tasting; you have a choice of the traditional tasting room, or sitting outside in the verdant gardens under the oak and olive trees, with a spectacular view of the vineyards and surrounding countryside. Unlike most places that have great buildings but then serve up lackluster wines, we have never been disappointed in their tasting menus and now make it a point to visit anytime we're in the Paso area. Love those place. Wonderful patio that is great for kids, dogs, or people who like a view. They have two tasting room bars which makes finding room at the bar easier. Castoro probably suffers from being too conveniently located off of Hiway 46 and draws in a lot of "lookey loo" wine tasters. Their policy of free tasting for X (3?) wines and the nominal charge of $3 for up to 7 wines probably also helps draw in the traffic. Which may account for the fact that on a day when tasting room crowds were few at other wineries, tasters were two deep along the length of the Castoro tasting bar in their funky, friendly tasting room. We learned Castoro is beaver in Italian and beaver is the owner's nickname...and so "Dam Fine Wine" started to make sense as slogan. :-) In spite of the crush of revelers, ummm tasters, most of whom appeared to know not a thing about wine or care to learn, the two women at the tasting bar were very friendly and knowledgeable when questions were asked. When the guy next to us, who comes to PR on business about once a month and always stops at Castoro he says, suggested that the Port was really good and although not on the tasting list he was sure they'd pour it if we asked, we didn't even need to ask and the port bottle appeared (and truffles to go with it). A fun time was had by all, including us. We left with a bottle of 2006 Venti Cinque Anni (their silver anniversary blend bottling) and a 2007 Primitivo both of which we thought were "damn fine" and well worth the purchase. We'd probably go back to Castoro when we're in Paso Robles again but we have to say, honestly, we sort of like tasting fees as a way to limit crowds! read more

I actually didn't care for this winery much. It was our third stop on the Wine Line tour, and it was the only one on the scheduled stops that we did not purchase a bottle. First of all, the place was packed, which you would think meant that the wine was fantastic, right? Wrong. The wine was just OK, and service was lacking. Yes, the place was busy, but the staff merely poured without interacting much with the customers. I do have to say that the beaver on the label is pretty cute, though. And, the tasting room was stocked with lots of interesting accessories and gourmet foods. However, there are much better wineries in the area with better wine and better customer service, so I don't plan to return to Castoro on my next visit to Paso. read more

After a weekend of wine tasting and visiting 5 wineries in the area, Castoro Cellars was by my favorite winery. Nancy behind the counter was more than helpful and very friendly in answering all of our wine questions about Castoro and other neighboring wineries, and other activities to do in the area. The grounds at Castoro are one of the nicest I've ever seen...very beautiful. Large gift shop with a wide variety of gifts that go with the wine. Out of the flight choices, I really enjoyed the Barbera 2012 and took a bottle home along with some (pricey) jams for my mother. Would definitely recommend this winery if you're traveling in the area. Will be back! read more

I love this place!!! As a new wine club member, I get to enjoy certain perks. Like complimentary tastings and invites to the annual Wine Club BBQ (which I got to enjoy this past weekend). Prices for tasting is free for the first three, and then $3 for 7 tastings thereafter which is waived if you buy a bottle. This was the first place ever my boyfriend and I tasted wines. The pourer was helpful, informative and gave us a mini lesson on tastings. The first time we came here we bought a few bottles. The last time we came here we joined the club and left with a case of wine. The grounds are beautiful and the building itself is lovely. Go for the port if you go. And the Cabernet Sauvignon is also really good. The Tempernillo and Barberas are also noteworthy. As for whites, the Tango is good. Yes, you can buy some of their wines at Trader Joe's, but most of the stuff I really love you can only get at the winery or order online. Most of the wines they taste are strictly just that. After visiting a handful of wineries in Paso, I have to say Castoro had one of the most beautiful scenery's. Right as you pull up you park right in front of the lush green vineyards with beautiful flowers surrounding the entrance. As you walk through the floral archway there is a giant outdoor patio if you would like to bring a picnic and drink great wine overlooking the vineyard. We did a tasting and used the Yelp check in to get one free tasting and 10% off a wine bottle purchase. The staff was super friendly and tasted some delicious wine. My favorite was the Carignane! Their wines are very reasonably priced too, this one was $30. This is a must visit not only if you are on a wine budget, but also for the beautiful scenery! read more
