I ordered a shrimp poboy dressed. All of the fixings were fresh and they did not hold back on the shrimp. I also ordered a half dozen of boiled blue crabs( should have ordered a dozen) they were so fresh and the didn't smell "fishy" like the crabs you get at some of the other restaurants in the area(Cajuns, Danny's, Sols, MidCity). They catfish plate was off the change meaning good I don't normally eat fast food on the regular and I don't normally get food if it's not worth buying or spending extra money!!! The fried seafood plates and poboys are good they give you a lot of food for the price. The salad that comes with the seafood plates are a couple of pieces of lettuce with one tomato slice ,kind of lame. read more

We decided to try to find a new spot before we headed into the Quarter. This place is half market and half restaurant and all great! You order at the counter and then head back to get it. It takes a few minutes because it is all served hot and fresh, but worth the wait. They have lots of different options on the menu so take your time. We missed a lot of options on the first go round. Everything we ordered was great. It is about 30 minutes outside of the Quarter but it's worth the trip if you have a car. Next time, we are going for the soft shelled crab. read more

Picked up a trout platter (3 pieces of fried trout with French fries) and a shrimp poboy for a midweek lunch takeout. The poboy was like any other poboy - nothing special, and not an overwhelming amount of shrimp. Best priced crawfish in New Orleans East. They go by a number system, so get your number when you enter the door and they will help you out once your number is called. The ambiance is that of a local seafood market, not to fancy, not shabby. You can get your boiled seafood and fresh seafood on the same side of the market. Best place to get fresh seafood as well as hot food plates and sandwiches. Service is always friendly. This place is always busy. The owners have made it more convenient for customers by adding a dining area and additional parking. I do wish they would return to their pre pandemic hours. This use to be the place for fried fish plate. I don't know what happened but to me it's no longer worth the time And money. I had 2 fish plates @ 15. Each. The fish tasted like grease with no flavor & the potato salad was just as bad the fries alone wit the fish were soggy & cold it was like it had been sitting under the heat lights and served. I ordered by phone while out front so my plates should have been hot when picked up. It took 10 mins for home. Good portions terrible tasting BIG disappointment ! read more

I am a New Orleans native, but I live in California. My Wife and I visit every 1-2 years and we ALWAYS stop here for several meals during our visit. We stay near the French Quarter, but we make the drive to Castanet because their food is amazing, the people are fantastic, their prices are beyond reasonable and their food is AMAZING!!! We are flying to New Orleans in the morning, and I cannot wait until we get to Castanet!! The owner is an amazing man. He is so genuine and kind. I feel sorry for all those first-time visitors to New Orleans who end up spending a small fortune at the tourist trap restaurants. This isn't to say that those places aren't good. They are. But Castnet Seafood should be in every pamphlet and in the mouth of every travel guide because it blows those places away and at a fraction of the price. WORDS DO NOT DO THIS PLACE JUSTICE. I thank the Good Lord that we stumbled it upon it while we were leaving New Orleans. As we headed back home, the five of us chatted about what a fun trip we had. First-rate food, we thought. As we neared the outskirts of town, we stopped at a gas station to fill up the tank. Three of us complained of hunger--and that's how we found this gem of a place called Castnet. We weren't expecting much though the place had 4.5 stars on Yelp. Well, let me tell you, they deserve 6 stars. We ordered fried catfish, boiled crawfish, turkey neck, crab and God knows what else. It was a feast for the five of us...and cost $37. Oh and did I mention how divine it tasted? Well seasoned, well-cooked and everything the South is supposed to be. I'm furious that we didn't take any home but I feel even more sorry for those who won't get to experience this place. If you do happen to stumble upon this review, take it from a New York cynic with an arrogant palate--best food in New Orleans and it's not even close. Castnet is in my neighborhood and it is a local favorite. The seafood consist of fish; shrimp; lobster; crabs, oysters and crawfish. Always fresh seafood and they have hot plates and sandwiches served your way. I like to get the crabmeat and shrimp for seafood salad to make at home. I had a shrimp and oyster Poboy and a roast beef Poboy. This was the roast beef poboy I grew up with. It was juicy and a little messy like I like it! The crawfish were seasoned well and warm. The oysters and shrimp were also very good. Fresh and cooked just right. You can tell this place has beef around for a long time because they have there cooking done to a science.
