This is near my house so I anticipate that I will be here again. My crazy new to NOLA behind went here on Good Friday and packed is not the word. I wanted to get some boiled seafood to go with the rice and beans we had at home. I loved the shrimp seasoning but I was only so so on the quality of the shrimp, they seemed a little gummy to me. Also, not being from NOLA, it would be great if they could have a little more order to the menu. They have signs everywhere and not in any particular order. i understand with places like this the pricing is highly influenced by what type of season local fisherman are having and are pricing. So a standardized menu is not an option. However, if they could group similar things together it would help people to make informed ordering decisions and therefore be more satisfied with the order. For instance, I ended up ordering boiled shrimp with head on. I don't know if that is all they had but I would have preferred to have them head off because it doesn't make since to me to pay for something you are not going to eat. Anyway I took what I got because they were so busy and because I wasn't sure there was another option. A clear menu would have at least given me peace of mind. read more

This is easily my fave dive this year. The authenticity and deliciousness of the oyster po' boy, freshest quality of the seafood served up fresh, its patrons seemingly enraptured by the quality of the food, as though the food is part of their addiction to this business, confirms my assessment I've responded to a business this way before and I know when I have, it's become my regular place of patronage. It's my first trip here and tried the crab too. Honestly I have not had as fresh crab ever since my last trip to Asia. The tamale to this crab is sweet and tasty just like places I've had in Asia. Too bad we don't have Yelp in Southeast Asia yet and would be more than happy to jump on this when the time comes. At any rate, not even the East Coast can match up to the freshness and flavor of the crab here and I am immediately harkened back to my favorite restaurants in Asia and LA and craving their preparations of this amazing crab. It's not crawfish season but you betcha Im back for the Jazz festival in May during crawfish season and get me loaded up with crawfish the way I've heard only Castnet can serve up. read more

I'm one of those few lucky tourist who got to experience Castnet! Castnet combined with Walker's (BBQ) was easily my most enjoyable dining experience. The boiled crawfish was perfectly cooked with just the right spiciness. The boiled shrimp was just as good. I would rave about this place some more, but with how packed this place was I highly doubt they need my endorsement. read more

Great place for a po boy and fresh seafood away from the French quarter. I have a friend who's parents are from this area of New Orleans and it came highly recommended. So when I was driving through, my family and I decided to stop and we weren't disappointed. I got the half and half (oyster and shrimp) my daughter got the shrimp 10 inch. When I visited they didn't have the normal French bread due to the baker not being able to produce, so they made our sandwiches on pistolette (sp?) bread. The sandwich was still delicious!!! We didn't finish but were able to save it and continue eating on our drive back to Houston. We also ordered several pounds of boiled crawfish to eat out side at the picnic tables because you can't beat the price of 3.50 per lbs. When in NoLa, do as the New Orleaneans do. That means having boudin, gumbo, and crawfish. While on my road trip to Houston, I saw this place in an article ranking as the 3rd best place for crawfish in NoLa, and I just simply had to stop by. Upon driving up and walking into the establishment, there was a fracas of numbers being shouted by people working behind the counter, calling out orders that were already prepared. I was in awe of how busy and how loved this place is. I knew that I had come to the right place. I spoke with a local who was also in line to get some seafood, and we spoke about how confusing this place can be for someone who had never been there (me), and while we were both sharing a jovial moment, we were also quite ready for the food. I ordered a pound of crawfish and just let loose. You can't go wrong with a nice bag of boiled crawfish. read more

If I'm rating this restaurant from a sheer dining experience, it was subpar at best. The order process is absolutely chaotic. Patrons are bottle necked into a tiny area right next to the kitchen. It was hard to decipher the people who had paid, and the ones waiting to order. The dining area was small and outdated. If you are looking for fine dining, this is not the place for you. Having said that, given the chaotic atmosphere, they run a very tight operation. Everyone working was very attentive and helpful. No one seems to be slacking in the place. They accommodated a very large group during lunch time. I had heard people rave about the seafood here, but I'm allergic to shellfish, so I couldn't taste the crab or shrimp. The fried fish was decent. The cheeseburger po boy was not that great honestly. The patties were thin and dry, and the bread was a little tough. Would I come back? Maybe if I was in the area. I wouldn't drive out of the city again to do so, when there are dozens of great seafood restaurants to go to with food just as good and a much better atmosphere. I had the hot sausage poboy and my BF had the shrimp. It was average. Not bad or spectacular. If you are hungry it'll work. Very casual atmosphere with a few picnic style tables outside for you to sit if you hv time. Also there is a snowball stand. read more

Literally a New Orleans East staple! Castnet's boiled seafood is always so consistent. Great size, flavor is amazing! Their hot food is great also. The seafood box is large enough to feed a large family. We always have leftovers. They have a very efficient system right now with COVID-19 and even though they are busy the wait is never too long. read more

Best seafood in New Orleans!!! This is where my family goes for crawfish and fish plates. I'm also a fan of their po boys. I usually call in advance so that I can run in and out since it's pretty crowded. It's right next to the lake and a sno ball stand if you're looking for a true New Orleans experience. read more

Crawfish review: I'm generally hesitant to eat crawfish that has not been prepared by a family member, but on friday I needed to find seafood and castnets has such good reviews I thought it had to be good. I was wrong. First, the crawfish were very dirty, I don't think they even tried to rinse them. Some were spicy, some were bland, so there is no consistency between batches. The garlic was only slightly cooked, so they put it in at the end of the boil. I'm not sure how it would add any flavor if it's not in there. I became nauseated soon after eating them, and vomited later. My coworkers said that they smelled off, I should have listened. There are many different parts of Castnets and if you don't know what you are doing it can be overwhelming and confusing. The fried seafood is fine, just fine. I think people like it just because it has been there for a while and is familiar. Locals don't generally leave their comfort zone. The best part about Castnets is that you can get a snowball next door. read more

One of favorite places to get crawfish. If you love garlic these crawfish are best for you. Full of garlic flavor with a hint of spice. Perfect combination. If you're looking to get away from the tourist areas and you want great food for low costs, this is the place to visit! The inside is divided into two parts, one for raw/boiled food and one side for fried food. On the left (boiled) side you can Order by the pound. Crawfish $4/lb, shrimp $8/lb. The food is authentically Cajun & well seasoned! Even early on a Saturday morning, the line started building quickly(definitely a popular spot amongst locals). Luckily, once you pull a number things go pretty fast. It was so good that we even able to bought a styrofoam cooler and ice to take some back home with home with us! Can't wait to get back to try the fried seafood. read more

I stumbled across this place while looking for the site of the old Lincoln Beach, it's along the Lake in New Orleans East. This place was crazy busy, but the orders come up pretty fast, it's pretty much a take out place, but there is an eat in room. There are two parts, one a seafood market, the other a seafood take out. The po boy I had was a oyster and shrimp combo, excellent, and I also tried the gumbo, also excellent and priced right. As a side note, I also purchased a 1/2 sack of oysters that I took home and turned into an oyster feat, sized very large and tasty. If you go to the market side, be sure to take a number! read more

A fish market like I visited with my grandmother when I was a kid. Everything is fresh ( unless you wanted frozen). I missed the peeled, deveined shrimp until i had checked out. Next time I'll spend the $1+ extra to save some of my prep time. Busy place but the staff seemed happy to help. It was well organized with tickets and ample staff to help quickly. read more

Fried shrimp po boys are good. Seafood is generally fresh. You may have a bit of a wait due to long lines. If you don't have far to drive home , your food may still be warm when you get there. I like my food hot! read more

As always the food was delicious we even got out of season Crawfish and it was perfect! It wasn't nose running spicy but it was seasoned so well! I definitely recommend this as your stop for crawfish at ANY time of the year. Now let's get into their hot foods! All of their portions are large! I grabbed a shrimp on bun and I had shrimp falling out, all around the sides. The fries are about average, still pretty good I just have a preference for crispier fries. All and all this is one of my number one stops in the East for a good quality, satisfying meal. read more

Long story short I went to explain and show him the shrimp, you can see clear as day, BROWN DIRTY SHRIMP WATER WITH BARELY ANY ICE, to add also the sizes were not all large at all, and contained excess shells I didn't ask to pay for. Last Friday I went and got 2 stuffed crabs(in the picture). Initially I was like $13 for the two scoops of stuffed crab seemed high but I know crabmeat is expensive. Right when I was about to pay for my food the hot crawfish came out so I had to get a taste and ordered 3lbs. My total was about $33. Prices are cheaper if you pay with cash (they list the price with cash and the price if you are paying with card) so I'd say bring some cash. The crawfish were good as usual and were a nice size. Other things I've had in the past that I enjoyed were the crawfish fettuccini, shrimp poboy, fried fish plate, and potato salad. There is seating available inside but it's not a big place so a big group would probably need to get their food to go. Also this is a pretty popular place especially on Fridays so expect to wait in line or you can call and order your phone ahead of time (which I usually do).

The seafood had a nice flavor without being too spicy. It wasn't spicy at all to me but it did have a little kick. The service was really good as well. We almost forgot our snow crabs but they made sure we got them! I know where to get some good boiled seafood now.

The price was average at $6.99. The Not So Good: The location is dimly lit & a little remote. Additionally, they sell previously frozen Crawfish for $4.99 (wide eyes stare). The pig feet aren't booked in the crab boil/lack the seasoned taste of the Crawfish, fyi. The other seafood didn't look too appealing... I'll pass. Overall: It was an ok place. Stopped me from running all over for Crawfish while in NOLA East; but I'll move around a bit more before I return here.
