My husband heard about Cast Iron Kitchen on Guy Fieri's show "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives." We went for breakfast on a weekday morning, and the restaurant was busy but not overly so. I had coffee and my husband ordered the fresh orange juice. The star of the show was definitely the sweet biscuit! We both agreed we could have eaten two more. The day we went it was a blueberry biscuit bread pudding with homemade vanilla whipped cream. I had a cheese omelet (added spinach) with grits and a biscuit. My husband got the chicken and pancake. The pancake was very good! We both agreed we'd probably prefer the pancake the traditional way, just by itself with butter and syrup. He said the chicken was also excellent. The service was great, and the vibe was lively-Southern-diner. It was busy, but my girlfriend and I were fortunately not turned away. I got the dirty South biscuit, and it was great. Soft biscuit with a yummy gravy. The cheese was melted and delicious. Uhh... our last experience with this place was terrible. We ordered breakfast for pickup. My husband gets there to get it and he's told we never placed an order and was pushed aside for other customers. The lady did not believe him, acted like we were trying to scam her even though he had the order pulled up on his phone. Even though the restaurant is busy, you don't treat customers that way. Another employee actually took the time to figure out that the kitchen missed our order and rectified the situation but by then, the damage is done. We finally get our order. Okay Father's Day, We had a Nice walk on the beach, please don't make me go out to eat and stand in line! UGH Happy Wife, Happy Life, Okay baby find us a place to go, She pulls up the ole YELP App and discovers a place about 20mins away called the Cast Iron Kitchen, okay I can get a Basic Breakfast at least, if we must and it has 4.5 stars. So we get there and the Host Stand is set up at the front door with the 2 young ladies and they said just 2 of you? It should go by very quickly, as families came of course and needed high chairs so the wait for that population was 1hr+, for us 30mins and almost to the minute when they called. We were sat at the bar, we told them before hand that was cool and in fact we prefer it most time, better service, if you know what I mean, I am looking right at you if it is slow. ( Just for FYI, it was even more impressive as I saw an article in the newspaper after we finished where they had lost their entire kitchen staff except for 1) So we sat and we ordered Libations with the young lady (Drea) at the host stand who also turned out to be the Co-Owner& Step in Bartender, Server and of course Host and just the best smile to make you feel welcome. The wife ordered the Watermelon Mimosa and loved it, I ordered what turned out to be the best darn Bloody May ever and that is saying a lot as I was a sailor and will drink anything, anywhere and have. We then ordered the Cranberry orange Muffin which was full of Cranberry/Orange flavor not sugar, and was just so good. We then Ordered our main courses, I got the "Dirty South Biscuit" Extra DIRTY! and the Wife got the EGG White Omelet with Turkey Sausage and it was all just so damn good. Although I Preferred their in house made Sausage, which you can buy and take home and cook, they also have their wonderful hot Sauce, and several other items. What really made this place is the staff of friendly, helpful people and they are Drea, Grace, Melonee(Full Time Bartender), Danny the Sous Chef, Lalo, Andy, Chaf Josh and His Wife (Drea), Mason and Mallory to name a few. We had to try the meatloaf, and the seafood omelette and the chicken and waffles. With a side of sausage gravy. The meatloaf sandwich was good. Too big to pick up and take a bite out of it without making a mess. My husband ended up taking the top bread off and eating everything else. The seafood omelette was okay. I liked it but it was too much eggs. When is it ever a bad thing when there's too much of something. The skillet potato was delicious. The gravy had a hint of cajun spice to it. All you need to know about the way this place treats customers can be observed by the scolding sign they have in front of the hostess table. It says something like "if you're wondering how long till your table is available, look at the text we sent you". We had a few minutes to wait, and there's no waiting area available, so we asked the hostess if we should sit on the unused outside tables. She said we could. We put our name on the list before we got in the car, and by the time we arrived, there were still 27 groups before us. Busy Sunday morning! I came with 3 girlfriends, one from out of town, one new to town, and another local. Between the 4 of us we tried the chips and blue cheese dip (fantastic!), the daily omelette special (lobster, crab, boursin cheese, grits, and a biscuit), an order of the Dirty Southern, a fried chicken biscuit, and a grilled chicken sandwich. Can't spread butter on them. But the flavor is good. The omelette had 4 tiny pieces of lobster. Loads of spinach and pickled peppers. After I removed the spinach and peppers, I was left with just a basic egg scramble and ham (was not bacon). My guess is they load the food with spinach and peppers to make it seem like this really big Amazing dish... I regretted paying over $20 for the omelette. I was excited for lobster, bacon and hollandaise sauce. I got spinach and peppers instead lol On the menu it list strawberry jam as an option.... I was excited about it. Turns out it's just one of basic diner jellies in a small plastic tin with grape jelly etc. I think the food is good but it absolutely overpriced for what you get... Food is extra greasy with burnt pieces of food from griddle and skillets IN your food because the kitchen equipment was not cleaned properly! NO One wants burnt stray food pieces from previous customers food IN their food! They do NOT take food allergy seriously and even laughed about it! They "forget" ingredients and sloppily plate the food! THEY get angry when you politely point out forgotten ingredients or missing items. Really good food. Solid menu for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. I really appreciated the menu noting dishes containing nuts--not many restaurants make note of that on the menu. The pancake was light and fluffy and so yummy with cinnamon butter. I wasn't sure how I was going to like the red eye gravy (made with coffee)...overall it was really yummy but it had a strong vinegar flavor. This place is worth the hype! We called ahead so we could wait in the AC at home. When we arrived we waited maybe 5 minutes for our table. Service was slow because like everywhere they are understaffed. Our server was great regardless. The food was amazing. Highly recommend getting the dirty south biscuit extra dirty. Much improved from our last visit. We learned from that visit, and didn't come on a Monday or close to closing time. The execution was notably better on this trip. This was Wednesday 6/5/2024 about noon. The pastrami on rye was very good; a bit over-buttered but otherwise well-cooked. The sauerkraut was different than the canned stuff and very tasty. At $17 it's not cheap, but it's big enough for two to share. I asked for the potato side extra crispy, and while they were very brown they were not at all crispy. We took those home and crisped them up in a frying pan - they were very good then. I don't know why this is so hard to get right. We also had the hot honey chicken sandwich, which was perfectly fried but not noticeably seasoned. Had it not said hot honey on the menu, I would have guessed there was just a pinch of cayenne in the breading. If you want something spicy you would have to add hot sauce, but if you don't you're safe with this. The sandwich is large and about $16, but shareable if you're not a ravenous teenager. The side of pickles was a little unusual (limp, instead of crisp) but tasty. We had a traditional and a blood-orange mimosa; skip these. They were not as bad as our last visit, but we make far better at home with $10 bubbly. All-in-all, the potential is there but CIK is still overpriced and under-good. We make a habit of re-trying a restaurant every year or two, so we'll be back at some point, but we're not in a hurry. Service was very good, and while the ambiance is basic, the outdoor table we ate at was scrupulously clean. The operation was running efficiently on this visit. read more

I wish I could tell you about more of their dishes but once I discovered the chicken and Waffles that's all Can seem to order. Two huge perfectly breaded crunchy chicken breast with their thin waffles topped with granola and fruit. Perfection! They ever give you a choice between regular maple or a spicy maple syrup if you want to take the dish to the next level..... which I recommend. You definitely can't go wrong with CiK. read more

My husband and I were traveling out of town and stopped by this place for breakfast! They were doing outdoor seating mostly, all socially distanced and everyone was wearing a mask. Overall our food was pretty good. We really enjoyed the chicken and the granola that came with our meal. The waffles were okay, nothing special. I do wish they would've been thicker and more fluffy. This place has the best grits that I have ever eaten in my entire life. They are damn good grits. Even my boyfriend loved them and he hates grits!! Whaaaaat?! My parents both ordered the biscuits and gravy (the portion is huge), my boyfriend had eggs, bacon, home fries and an English muffin, my brother had the veggie omelet with home fries and rye toast and I had the shrimp chorizo omelet (I substituted turkey sausage for the chorizo-it gives me the heartburn), and I had grits and a biscuit. Let me tell you about these grits!! They are hearty, creamy and peppery. They have fantastic flavors!! You must order them!!
