Rather than simply informing him there was an upcharge and asking if he still wanted it she said something along the lines of "we don't serve our French toast with syrup because it's already really sweet and we use real so we charge for it so taste it first and see if you still really want he syrup because I don't want to charge you unnecessarily." And then. She walked. Away. And we never saw another server again for the entire remainder of our meal so my husband never had a chance to ask for syrup which, yes, he did want after trying his dry-ass French toast.
