Fried Shrimp+Oyster,Hushpuppies,FriedOkra

First place we ate in Wilmington. Large room/nautically decorated. Very clean & organized, not fancy. You're there for the quick service + extremely reasonable seafood. I had a combo plate of fried shrimp + oysters (includes 2 sides) with 2 fried okra. Hubbie had combo fried fish& shrimp w/okra + fries. Wonderful food- we're both retired chefs, and the seafood was Perfectly cooked. Breading was light & flavorful. Good hush puppies, which aren't a side but are included w/meal. Somewhere between large+ huge portions - Place doesn't have to advertise! We came in as it opened, was almost full when we left. Very Reasonable prices- under $38 for 2 people. LOVED IT- the best!

We called in an order, then added to it after we got there. It was late, around 8:30 PM and the restaurant closed at 9 PM. The staff is nice. Service was surprisingly fast. Food was good. Bathroom was clean. We ordered a seafood sampler and mahi mahi. Mahi mahi was excellent. I'd definitely go back for more of it. Grilled and seasoned with lemon pepper and old bay seasoning. Overall good experience.

Gluten free scallops, shrimp, fries combo - Combo of 2

Gluten free fried seafood! With a huge variety of options! Loved being able to order multiple kinds of fried fish, as that's hard to come by, and pricing is super affordable. You can ask for a gluten free menu and I also asked for ranch (not a fan of other seafood sauces). There aren't a lot of veggies available so your plate will end up being pretty brown & fried, but it's delicious so worth it! Service was friendly and helpful, no frills inside but it was clean.

What a great spot! The place was filled with locals so we knew we found a good one! The service staff were friendly and helpful and the food....oh the food! It was so good! We loved the casual atmosphere!!!

I returned to this establishment because of the excellent cuisine. It was a primary destination for my trip to Wilmington. Our server was very pleasant. However, I did notice something peculiar; most of the staff seemed to have an aversion to seafood. This, of course, is not entirely surprising considering their daily exposure to it. Nevertheless, the food was delightful, and the service was impeccable. I would be delighted to return again.

Combo platter- flounder, scallops, clams and deviled crab

We arrived for an early dinner and the place was not busy. We were greeted by a very nice young man who waited on us promptly and was very attentive. I made my own platter with clams, flounder, deviled crab and scallops (all fried). The meal came with two sides so I chose boiled potatoes and green beans. The server brought out hushpuppies before our meal arrived and they were small but super tasty. Our food came out quickly and fried to perfection. The scallops were nice sized, not bay scallops and a little smaller than a normal diver but they were sweet and delicious. The flounder, clams and deviled crab were very good. The boiled potatoes and green beans were just average, could've used some seasoning but I focused more on my seafood. The price point was amazing and I thought creating my platter was more economical than the seafood platter since I don't care for oysters. My sister had the combo with fish and clams and we had two drinks. The total was around $51 for a ton of food, which we took home since we couldn't eat it all. I thought this place was a gem and highly recommend it!

Terrible food, ambiance and fair service. At 11:30 am, they were already out of iced tea? Won't go back there.

No through traffic of wait staff or customers. We ordered drinks and started off with small house salads. Salads are a good portion for smalls. However, we were just barely finishing salads, bread had just come out, then entrees. I guess we thought putting in orders together, food wouldn't come out so fast. Server took our salad plates and handed us our entrees. We both ordered shrimp scampi. So delicious but I took half to go. When food comes out too fast, I just can't finish. I will think to wait on ordering entrees. I really don't like food coming out one after the other. I understand the kitchen makes the food as it comes in, but the timing could have been better. Food and service is always good here. Wouldn't mind waiting a few extra minutes for meals so we don't feel rushed out.

Wish we were in the main room. Anyway, good size menu. Everything you need from chowder, fried platters, broiled dishes and non dish items too. We went with the basic fried platters. The flounder was good, hot and crispy. The fries basic. Cole slaw tasty. The hushpuppies were not good. Small, over cooked and dry. The food came out fast. The service was great. They had good dinner specials and bar specials too. I will be back. It's a good neighborhood restaurant. 3.5 stars. But sure it will be a four next visit.

You walk into Fish Bites hoping it's still the same place you've trusted over the years--and I'll…read moresay it right up front: it is. Maybe even a touch better. The Food We went straight for what matters. * Chilean Sea Bass -- cooked right, flaky, moist, and seasoned without trying to show off. That's how it's supposed to be done. No nonsense, just good fish handled properly. * Fish Bites (house specialty) -- lightly battered, crispy without being greasy, and paired with both Thai chili and tartar sauces. That combo works. You don't fix what isn't broken, and thankfully they didn't. * Ponzu Tuna Tacos -- these were the standout. Fresh, flavorful, balanced. The ponzu brings just enough bite without overpowering the tuna. If you're going there and skip these, that's on you. Sides held their own--fresh vegetables with a good sauté, and coleslaw that didn't taste like it came out of a tub somewhere in the back. Service Our server, Kali (K-A-L-I), did things the old-school way--attentive without hovering, friendly without being fake. That's getting rare these days, and it's worth mentioning. Value Two people, solid seafood, no corners cut: $67.15 total. In today's world? That's not just fair--that's impressive. Final Take New ownership can sometimes mean a place loses its identity. That didn't happen here. Fish Bites still delivers what made it a favorite--fresh seafood, straightforward preparation, and consistency. If anything, they've tightened things up just enough to notice

But not the best view with the gas station. Our waitress was nice and attentive. We started with the Oyster Bombs, which were cheesy and delicious. I also got the clam chowder which was hearty and very satisfying. For my main meal, I had the stuffed flounder. It was rich and packed with flavor. I picked the mixed veggies and garlic mashed potatoes as my sides. I ended up taking half home because I was so full! Plus, we got a few slices of cake to share at the office in the afternoon. Everyone enjoyed our meal. I'll definitely be back.

Fortunately, it was the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and we arrived comfortably after Beach Church. My son said the fried chicken was the "best he'd ever had," and he's had a lot. He wanted french toast and was going to have a side of chicken until his wife ordered chicken & waffles, which claimed two chicken breasts. Those *two* seemed to be the size of a whole chicken or more and there was plenty to share and take home. Another order of the blueberry pancakes was only half eaten. The service was fantastic, speedy and friendly, with plenty of drink refills and extras. Later in the breakfast shift, the very friendly owner came out and socialized a bit. He said the secret to his fried chicken recipe came from his great aunt, but it was imperative to use fresh, never frozen chicken. Our combined families usually spend a summer week at a beach location farther south, but it will be tough to pass up OVKB22 the next time we are near Southport or Wilmington.
