FANTASTIC! We had a group of nine, which was a little awkward as the space is a bit intimate for a large group. Fortunately, it was the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and we arrived comfortably after Beach Church. My son said the fried chicken was the "best he'd ever had," and he's had a lot. He wanted french toast and was going to have a side of chicken until his wife ordered chicken & waffles, which claimed two chicken breasts. Those *two* seemed to be the size of a whole chicken or more and there was plenty to share and take home. Another order of the blueberry pancakes was only half eaten. The service was fantastic, speedy and friendly, with plenty of drink refills and extras. Later in the breakfast shift, the very friendly owner came out and socialized a bit. He said the secret to his fried chicken recipe came from his great aunt, but it was imperative to use fresh, never frozen chicken. Our combined families usually spend a summer week at a beach location farther south, but it will be tough to pass up OVKB22 the next time we are near Southport or Wilmington. We came here at the end of March on a Saturday morning and the place was very busy, but we were seated right away. Server was very attentive and friendly. I ordered a veggie omelette and the portion was really good. It was full of spinach, tomatoes, and mushrooms. My husband had the chicken and waffles and had to take some home with him because the portion was so good. The chicken was crispy on the outside. Unfortunately, it did not have an ocean view, but you are in walking steps to the ocean, so during peak season expect to pay over six dollars an hour for parking. read more

I'm so glad we stopped here for lunch! The place has such a cute ocean-themed décor that sets a fun, welcoming vibe. Our server was friendly and made us feel right at home. The menu had so many tempting choices, but I went with a cup of the blue crab bisque and the seafood platter with shrimp and deviled crab. The bisque was excellent--rich, flavorful, and not overly salty. The fried shrimp had a light, crispy batter with just the right seasoning, and the deviled crab was meaty with a nice breading mixed in. What a wonderful Kure Beach gem! We enjoyed several hours on Kure Beach and was getting hungry for lunch. After walking by Ocean View many many times, we decided to go. This is a cute, beach diner just steps from the beach and the pier. We walked in and sat right down. They have a bright, clean dining area with photos all over the walls of Kure Beach from now and long ago. Love that. They have a great menu with lots of choices. Breakfast is served all day if you wish, but we were looking for some seafood today. We tried the Calabash shrimp and the seafood platter (shrimp, flounder, or deviled crab). I had just the one seafood choice, so I went with shrimp. Really tasty and a large plate of shrimp with hush puppies, French fries, and fresh cole slaw. The calabash shrimp was loaded on a brioche bun with lettuce, tomato, and red onion served with French fries. Very crispy and delicious. The server was very friendly and attentive. She came by many times to check on us and brought tea refills. It was so nice to eat locally and right by the beach. We had a great experience at Ocean View. If you can't find something yummy on the menu at this little restaurant adjacent from the Kure Beach Pier, then you just don't like food ! The wait at 10:45 am was only about 10 min which was surprisingly short considering March spring break. Table service was friendly and accommodating. Our selections for Sunday Brunch were the Crab Benedict, and the Ocean View Breakfast. The Crab dish included homemade biscuits covered with 3 eggs, country ham, and lump crab, with a side of grits. Outstanding and more than the wife could finish so I helped her clean her plate ! My traditional breakfast of two eggs, country ham, grits, and toast, with a house made strawberry jam was also delectable. We are certainly planning on coming back soon either for breakfast, brunch, or lunch soon. read more

We stumbled upon this little spot on a Friday while we were early for our aquarium reservation, and what a great surprise it turned out to be! We first ordered the hot strawberry biscuit for our toddler--it was so good that we ended up getting another biscuit à la carte. For mains, we tried the pork belly and grits, which had amazing flavor, and the BLEAT sandwich--both were fresh, hearty, and way above what you'd expect from a casual beach eatery. Had lunch here today (New Years Day 1 January 2024) after a nice walk along the beach at Fort Fisher. We wanted to walk on the pier, but it's closed for renovations. We shared the fried chicken (with fries, as the menu stated it's enough for two people. It was half a chicken! Plenty of leftovers. The chicken was so juicy and tender; and the batter nice and crispy. Really good!!! Fries were nice an crispy too. I had a bloody Mary and DH had a coffee. Everything about this place was fantastic. When we were done eating, we went over to the pier which was a nice way to tie the experience together. Honestly did not expect the quality of food we received. We started off with the beignets and the presentation on them alone was amazing. But they really packed a punch with the flavor. They were very fluffy and crispy and tied together with the blackberry sauce, which we later used for our pancakes. For entrees, we each got an omelette with the house potatoes. Again, the presentation was gorgeous and the flavor that followed matched. Everything tasted fresh and put together. We finished off with some pancakes. These were good- nothing to brag about but they did exactly what they needed to do. This breakfast and brunch place replaced kure beach diner and opened on Valentine's Day. We arrived a little after 8:30am on a Saturday and there were still at least 4 tables (4 seaters) open. At about 9:15 a.m., start to get really busy and there's a short line waiting outside and the parking lot looked full. There is no noise dampening inside so it gets very loud as it gets more full. If you're lucky, you can grab a table with a sliver view of the ocean. Alcohol options are a breakfast stout and tropical lightning IPA from Wilmington Brewing Company, tropical pineapple cider from Flat Rock Brewing Company and mimosas. Our party ordered omelette with cheese, traditional breakfast, hot strawberries and biscuit, and a side of French toast. Overall, we weren't impressed with the food. Food was mediocre and some of them were undercooked. My partner ordered the eggs from the traditional breakfast to be medium with cheddar. When the plate came, the cheese wasn't melted so he asked for them to melt the cheese. One of the staff said they could not melt the cheese, which was an odd response. Of course cheese can be melted on an egg and we obviously had an omelet that had cheese melted on it to show it can be done. In the end, the staff made extra eggs with some melted cheese on them, which was better. The house fries were not crispy at all even though we asked for them to be crispy. Our friend said his omelette was undercooked. He also said at a past visit a week ago, the pancakes were undercooked as well. They make their biscuits in-house, but they were nothing to rave about. The hot strawberries and biscuit was okay. It was smothered with a ton of strawberry jam, which made the biscuits soggy so you got to make sure you eat that quick! It was way too much jam for me. It would have been better if they put a little bit on top of the biscuits and put extra jam in a side cup for self-serving. The French toast tasted good at first, but after a few bites I noticed there were a few parts that were undercooked. Our waitress was kind and there was another staff member, Patty, who would fill up our coffee, was very friendly. I wouldn't come back. There are other better breakfast places on the island that would be worth your visit and who can actually cook food properly. read more

My husband had the pancakes and enjoyed them very much - huge and tasty. We loved the pictures on the walls and the colorful furniture and painting. The owner, Charlie, was so sweet - he explained the history of the pictures to us and that his family had owned the restaurant in the past. He has been the owner for the last year and a half. Ok hear me out.. try this place for DINNER! It looks like a phenomenal breakfast/brunch spot, but we had dinner here and absolutely loved it! They had fresh tuna steak sandwiches that were cooked to perfection and the key lime pie puts the pies is Key West to shame. We ordered the hot strawberries and biscuits as a second dessert and WOW! We also saw several tables order the fried chicken and it looked delicious. Usually our expectations for restaurants like this are pretty low because there are few restaurant options in town and they're all near the water so the location alone will get people in the door. However, we were pleasantly surprised when the food rivaled restaurants in our hometowns of Austin, Asheville, and Cincinnati! We were lucky to get to chat with the owner and learn the history of the restaurant and its survival through several hurricanes. With food and hospitality this great, there's no doubt it will survive well into the future! read more

Friendliest staff I have ever come in contact with at a restaurant everyone seemed truly happy and excited you were there. It's kind of a small space and was a little loud because it was so busy. They offer the whole menu for brunch so you have breakfast, burgers, seafood, to choose from there is something for everyone. Super cute set up. However, the food was a huge disappointment. The "home fries" were chewy and over cooked, no flavor to them (besides the burnt taste.) The eggs Benedict that we chose was served on an English muffin that was chewy. Our bill included 5 of us. Kind of pricey for such small portions. (We don't get out much so I guess this is expected.) we most likely won't frequent this place again. Definitely won't recommend if you have toddlers. Also, we were trying to get to go items and they had limited to no way to send our stuff off with us. I guess they are use to people wasting their food vs taking it home.
