Always a good choice when at the beach! Great service, great choice of food dishes and funky ambiance!

eggplant parmesan

Every time I come to the beach, I come to soul flavor because it is that good. I've been here about five times now and I've tried different dishes each time I come. Nothing has disappointed me. They do different takes on classic dishes and everything is executed very well. I love the fact that they're Alfredo sauce is not too heavy, but still very flavorful. Eggplant on my eggplant. Parmesan was very lightly breaded and nice and crispy. The restaurant can get busy on Friday nights and the weekend so be sure to get there ahead of time. Even though you might have to wait for a bit you can still get drinks at the bar in the waiting area!

fish n chips with coleslaw and fresh catch of the day special (grilled ahi tuna with wild fried rice and shrimp)

After a mediocre dining experience at a different local place, we were recommended to come to Soulflavor. The interior was very cool and decorated with famous black artists and icons and looked like a speakeasy. Very cool! Hubby ordered the fish n chips and I ordered the catch of the day, which was grilled ahi tuna with fried wild rice and shrimp. Both were delicious! There's no doubt that these fish dishes were more fresh than some other local places. 7/10 - For hubby's fish n chips, the coleslaw was too milky/too much mayonnaise. And for my grilled ahi, I wish I was able to get an additional fresh component, like green beans.

Great service great food food coma in affect will definitely come back soon than later

The hostess was incredibly rude after trying to verify if the restaurant was actually dog friendly (after walking in and seeing it was not- no I didn't have my dog with me). The listing on Apple Maps says it is. Just FYI. I was really looking forward to enjoying their food but I will not eat there due to the way I was spoken to by the hostess.

Soul Flavor is a long time Carolina Beach favorite of ours. We always make sure to try the specials and have not been disappointed yet. The service was surprisingly a bit on the slow side this visit. We were sitting in the back in a corner table, and I believe our server had other big parties to tend to at the time. We get the best service sitting at the spacious front bar. All of the appetizers that we have tried here have been fantastic. My daughter always likes to get the beef strogonoff. I don't think you can ever go wrong with fish tacos at the beach. My husband enjoyed the flavorful jambalaya topped with snapper. Portions sizes are great. Both my husband and my daughter had leftovers to enjoy the next day. We will definitely be back next year!

This was a 9/10 for me. Having never been here before, when you walk in it seems a little scetchy at first because of the ambiance, decor and yellowish brown dim lighting. But don't let that fool you. We were greeted with smiles and felt welcomed. We came on a Wednesday around 5pm. We were seated immediately. Our waitress was really friendly and we had no issues ordering and getting our food in a timely manner. The food here is ridiculously good! I opted for the pork belly with pineapple shrimp fried rice. The porkbelly was cooked to perfection with the crispy edge. The shrimp in the rice were plump and all of the flavors blended together well. The chicken wings had wonderful flavor. Personal preference, I like my wings fried with a crisp, these appeared to be baked and soft, but the flavors made them good nonetheless. My husband had the cajun fried chicken with asparagus. He enjoyed it, said the asparagus was the best he had ever tasted. I washed that down with a drink called the Chai Bella...umm, umm good, Vanilla vodka, chai, ginger beer and smoke. I'm going to try to make this at home. lol If I'm ever back in the area, I'll be back and I 100% recommend this place.

This was our third visit to Soul Flavor, and it continues to be one of our favorite dining spots. We arrived early and were able to skip the wait, which is a smart move, because this place is popular for a reason. The atmosphere is a fun and funky blend of rock-n-roll meets hippie, laid-back, vibrant, and full of personality. It's the kind of place that immediately puts you in a good mood. We started with the deviled eggs appetizer, which we've had a few times before and absolutely love. They're always a hit and served with a lightly dressed spinach salad topped with pickled onions. That little side salad adds a bright, tangy contrast that makes the whole dish pop. Oh so good. For my main course, I had the special: teriyaki salmon with pineapple and rice. It was fresh, flavorful, and cooked just right. The original menu included bacon, but since each dish is made to order, I asked for it to be left off, which was no problem at all. It's always nice when a restaurant is flexible like that. The portion was generous and satisfying, so no room for dessert this time. The service, as always, was excellent. The staff is friendly, attentive, and seems to genuinely enjoy what they do. Soul Flavor delivers consistently great food, a cool atmosphere, and a team that makes you feel welcome every time. Highly recommend!

Great service; great food; solid jams-go first chance you get-you won't regret it. The food quality is outstanding and is anything but boring!

Great find in Carolina Beach, that we wish we found sooner. They have weekly specials and the vibe is upbeat and cute. The service is top-notch and the food is absolutely delicious. We will definitely be returning often.

Daily Specials are incredible, this is Blackened Shrimp Wedge Salad.

We're close enough to Florida, surely SOMEBODY had to serve a decent KLP?! Quick Google search led me to the Southerly, which incidentally was very close to the park we were currently at. I called to see if they made them and the guy said they DO but were sold out for the day. I wasn't surprised, as I called right before they closed. I asked if I could reserve one for the next day- easy as pie, right? He was so friendly and accommodating, I probably would have gone in even if he said no pies tomorrow. Just a super warm, kind person. The Southerly is known for their biscuits, so when we went in the next day we got biscuits, sandwiches, and the pie. The biscuits are out of this world. I've never had a biscuit this good before. Tender, flaky, with a few crispy parts. The flavor was heavenly. The sandwiches were very good, I wish I had been able to try more. I even took a plain biscuits home to eat later and they're fantastic even without butter or jam. Absolute perfection. The Key lime pie was good. We didn't eat it until later that night. The crust was a little dry and crumbly. The filling was decadent, perfect, key limey in every way. I couldn't recommend this place more. Everyone was so nice, it's a great local spot. And let me tell you-- I would pay for express shipping if they offered it.

Our waiter Noah T was very attentive, answered our questions and we were off and running. We chose a couple of appetizers; a bowl of Chowder (only because of the raves from fellow Yelpers) and the Athenian Bruschetta. Both were very good but my expectant bubble was burst as it wasn't "the best I have had" as many of the Yelpers had described it. The Athenian Bruschetta though was A-amazing. For Entree I had the stuffed Flounder and Norma had Shrimp and Scallop Scampi. Both were very delicious. Atmosphere was nice, a bit crowded, as you would expect where the food is really good. Tables were tight. Hard to navigate with Norma's wheelchair, but we made it through. Large helpings, took tomorrow's lunch back to the hotel. A definite come back to place.

That said, despite the place seeming to be very popular, I'd never actually visited for a meal - until my most recent visit, that is. I was visiting my grandmother and we finished a nearby game of miniature golf around 4:15pm, so we decided to head over to Michael's for an early dinner (I was going to bed early that night anyway, since I had to drive to Raleigh the next day for my flight out of RDU). She'd been raving about the dressing available at this place (they're known for a champagne vinaigrette, apparently?). I'd been eating light in Carolina Beach (having come from Houston, which made me feel like I was 95% brisket by the time I left), so I was looking forward to the roasted beet salad that she told me was on the menu of this place. We got to the restaurant and were seated right away (perfect timing, honestly, since the place started to fill up not that long after we arrived). I ordered the strawberry lemonade to drink, a cup of the seafood chowder, and the roasted beet salad (minus bleu cheese). It wasn't long before our order arrived at the table. The seafood chowder was decent, though nothing I would particularly order again or think especially notable. The beet salad was the same. I was actually expecting a different texture from the beets... they seemed more mushy than anything, and didn't have that "roasted" flavor I was expecting. The salad dressing that my grandmother had been raving about didn't really hit the mark for me either. It lacked flavor, and almost seemed overly diluted. Ultimately, I'm giving Michael's a 3/5 because our server was attentive and I enjoyed the general vibe of the place. I can understand why it's an easy place to grab a bit on Carolina Beach; that said, would I bother visiting Michael's Seafood again on a follow-up trip to CB? No, there are plenty of other options.

The Food Many of you know how much I travel, and I don't say this lightly, these are the best Eggs Benedict I've ever had. Period!!! I ordered the Crab Benedict, while my wife enjoyed the California Benedict. Every bite was simply outstanding. 2. The People The entire staff is incredibly kind, attentive, and welcoming. Yes, you may wait 25 to 50 minutes for a table, but I can honestly say it's worth every single minute. Great things are worth waiting for. 3. Kate And then there's Kate, the owner. She is truly one of a kind. Her kindness, humility, and positive spirit radiate the moment you meet her. More than anything, her faith is contagious! We spent just a few minutes talking, yet her words left a lasting impact on both of us. As we were leaving, she handed us a small pin that read, "God's Got This." Wow... it was exactly the message we needed at that moment. Please take a moment to read her story in the attached photo. From now on, every day can be "CB" day for me, because I'll gladly return to Kate's for what I believe is the best breakfast, served with the biggest hearts.
