He really gave amazing customer service by greeting each person who walked in and remained chill even when the line grew and he was the only person working. Super busy when we got there, line out the door, and the man at the counter was yelling at everyone to get inside/close the door--but there wasn't enough space for people to get inside and it was pouring outside. The line moved fairly quick. Coffee was mediocre, they used Monin syrups, which I realized once we got to the front of the line--so our lattes tasted the exact same. I also watched the barista tamp the pucks so many times before pulling the shots, and pull whisks and such out of a really gross looking bucket on the counter that had white milky looking liquid in it and mix my drink with it. Very kind owners and a great spot. When I walked in today with my friend, I was greeted warmly and stood in line to get iced lattes. Despite the line, we were served fairly quickly. I tried the iced vanilla latte. Personally, it was too milky and sweet and would've preferred a stronger espresso flavor. My friend ordered an iced vanilla latte and also said the same. I was looking forward to trying out a local coffee spot in Carolina Beach, so stopped by Crush and Grind for a quick caffeine fix. I loved the mural outside and the reviews were great, so thought I'd be in for a decent experience. There were quite a few customers inside enjoying their drinks at about 2 PM, but there wasn't anybody at the counter serving customers or taking orders. I stood for several minutes hoping someone would come to the counter, but left...first time ever I've stood in line at a coffee place to order and nobody cared to take my order. I guess since it's slow season in Carolina Beach, they didn't feel the need to have attentive staff. It was all quite bizarre as it was several hours before closing time. Crush and Grind should close up shop after the summer if they don't want to attend to customers. I never thought I'd see the day, but after more than 450 Yelp reviews, this is my first one-star review for a coffee shop. Update - business owner responded quickly with an apology promising to do better, so respect them enough to bump up the score a star...mistakes happen. read more

Tasty black coffee. And if you must know, a cup of Crush and Grind's black coffee goes extremely well with a few Britt's donuts, which you will find a short walk away on the boardwalk. When we visited, there was only one person working the register, taking orders and making beverages, so the service was very slow. We got two black drip coffees and two hot chocolates, and it took almost 15 minutes! Luckily, there were some board games in the coffee shop that we could play while we waited. But also, we were by the beach, and time moves slower at the beach, and the mood is more mellow at the beach, so we took it all in stride. When we finally got our drinks, the wait proved to be worth it, because like I said, that was some tasty black coffee. Crush and Grind specializes in coffee beverages, so don't expect to find much food here. I think I saw a few baked goods in a small case, but that was it for food. The shop is perfect with a blend of searing, open space, outdoor seating (upstairs), small local vendor items and two coolers full of local microbrews, juices and teas.
