Very kind owners and a great spot. When I walked in today with my friend, I was greeted warmly and stood in line to get iced lattes. Despite the line, we were served fairly quickly. I tried the iced vanilla latte. Personally, it was too milky and sweet and would've preferred a stronger espresso flavor. My friend ordered an iced vanilla latte and also said the same. Coffee is probably a 3/5. I do appreciate that the owners let me come back later in the afternoon and get some iced water! read more

I was looking forward to trying out a local coffee spot in Carolina Beach, so stopped by Crush and Grind for a quick caffeine fix. I loved the mural outside and the reviews were great, so thought I'd be in for a decent experience. There were quite a few customers inside enjoying their drinks at about 2 PM, but there wasn't anybody at the counter serving customers or taking orders. I stood for several minutes hoping someone would come to the counter, but left...first time ever I've stood in line at a coffee place to order and nobody cared to take my order. I guess since it's slow season in Carolina Beach, they didn't feel the need to have attentive staff. It was all quite bizarre as it was several hours before closing time. Crush and Grind should close up shop after the summer if they don't want to attend to customers. I never thought I'd see the day, but after more than 450 Yelp reviews, this is my first one-star review for a coffee shop. Update - business owner responded quickly with an apology promising to do better, so respect them enough to bump up the score a star...mistakes happen. read more

Tasty black coffee. And if you must know, a cup of Crush and Grind's black coffee goes extremely well with a few Britt's donuts, which you will find a short walk away on the boardwalk. When we visited, there was only one person working the register, taking orders and making beverages, so the service was very slow. We got two black drip coffees and two hot chocolates, and it took almost 15 minutes! Luckily, there were some board games in the coffee shop that we could play while we waited. But also, we were by the beach, and time moves slower at the beach, and the mood is more mellow at the beach, so we took it all in stride. When we finally got our drinks, the wait proved to be worth it, because like I said, that was some tasty black coffee. Crush and Grind specializes in coffee beverages, so don't expect to find much food here. I think I saw a few baked goods in a small case, but that was it for food. The shop is perfect with a blend of searing, open space, outdoor seating (upstairs), small local vendor items and two coolers full of local microbrews, juices and teas. The barrista talked to us about what we like in a coffee and made suggestions. The Sea Bee was my "go to" all weekend. Silky, sweet, excellent coffee flavor. Perfect spot for a coffee shop in CB. They have beer & wine too, so it becomes a social spot at any hour! It's a bit darker in here, so a nice break from the sun when it's needed. This is better than you would expect for a coffee shop located next to tourist heaven. Good quality brew. Got a cappuccino and it was aerated like it should be. We love crush and grind! In fact, we go every day we are in town and we get a growler of the cold brew. If you love coffee and espresso: REAL espresso drinks, then you will be delighted with the baristas at C&G. I had the most delicious cortado and then a macchiato ever here! Service is always great and it's fun to check out all the craft beers in the case. Upstairs the little seating area was a perfect spot to catch up with a local friend I hadn't seen in years one of the times we visited. In Carolina Beach for the weekend, needing a night cap, we saw Crush & Grind across the street from our accommodations with a small flashing open sign. And what an awesome surprise this place was! Inside, Fritz & Parker guided us on a glass of wine, & a can of cider to satisfy our nightcap craving because we didn't even know what we wanted (it wasn't our first cocktail of the evening). Other customers were there sipping as well. Inside it is hip & trendy as well as relaxed & chill. They had music playing & asked if we had any requests. I will tell local family about the place, simply because of the outgoing & fun yet professional personalities of Fritz & Patrick. 5 stars, 2 thumbs up for what the place presently is.
