Great atmosphere, cozy and quiet seating, and just an all-around neat place to spend some time. The doorman was also extremely friendly and welcoming. There is a $5 membership fee to join, which we didn't mind. I ordered one of their specialty cocktails from the menu and it was very good. My wife ordered a Cosmo, however, and unfortunately hers was a completely different story. Instead of a traditional Cosmo, it was made with a very heavy amount of lime juice. It was cloudy, extremely lime-forward, and simply wasn't what she ordered or expected. She didn't even finish it. This is one of my pet peeves with cocktails: if someone orders a standard drink--a Cosmo, margarita, etc.--make the standard drink unless they ask for something different. A bartender's personal flair can be great in a house specialty, but it shouldn't automatically be added to a classic cocktail. When the bartender noticed she hadn't finished it, he said, "You should have told me." Fair enough--but once we explained that she didn't like the drink, we were still charged for it. That was disappointing. What makes it more frustrating is that my wife had been here previously and another bartender made her Cosmo perfectly, which is one reason we came back. Overall, the Blind Elephant has a lot going for it. The atmosphere is terrific, my specialty cocktail was excellent, and we really like the concept. We're three-times-and-you're-out people, so we'll give it another shot or two. Hopefully next time Martha gets the Cosmo she remembers, because we'd really like to have a reason to keep coming back. For now: 3 stars.

We were genuinely excited to dine here after hearing so many wonderful things about the restaurant…read moreand its James Beard-recognized chef. Unfortunately, our experience was incredibly disappointing. Our group of friends ordered our entire meal at once and had just received our appetizers when a staff member abruptly came to our table and, in a very rude and confrontational manner, told us to "be quiet" because we were being too loud. We understand that restaurants have to maintain a comfortable atmosphere for all guests, and if our volume had become an issue, a polite and discreet request would have been completely appropriate. Instead, we felt embarrassed and scolded. The interaction left us so uncomfortable that one member of our party immediately asked for the check and told them we would be leaving before our entrées were even served. Rather than apologizing, showing any empathy, or attempting to salvage the situation, the staff simply brought the bill, set it on the table, and walked away. What was most disappointing wasn't being asked to lower our voices--it was how we were treated afterward. Hospitality is about making guests feel welcome, even when an awkward situation arises. There was no apology, no acknowledgment that the interaction could have been handled better, and no effort whatsoever to make things right. Given the restaurant's reputation, we expected exceptional food paired with exceptional hospitality. Sadly, while we may never know how the main course would have been, the service ensured we won't be returning.

What a fantastic evening at Dram Yard…read more We were a little concerned we might miss our 5:30 reservation after getting delayed by a seven-car accident on the bridge, but we arrived just a couple of minutes late and it wasn't an issue at all. From the moment we arrived, the experience was relaxed, welcoming, and exactly what we needed. We chose to sit in the beautiful courtyard, and with temperatures in the 70s, sunshine overhead, and a gentle breeze, it couldn't have been a more perfect setting. The outdoor gazebo bar creates a wonderful atmosphere for enjoying a cocktail before dinner, and if the weather isn't cooperating, the indoor dining space is equally inviting. A special thank you to Sarah, whose service was outstanding. She was cheerful, attentive, and genuinely seemed happy to be there. The restaurant wasn't crowded, which made for a peaceful and unhurried dining experience. For drinks, I ordered the Ghost Town, while my wife enjoyed the Venus Flytrap. Both were beautifully prepared and easy to see why they're among the restaurant's popular cocktails. The food was equally impressive. I had the Spaghetti Carbonara, and it was exceptional. The kitchen even accommodated my request for extra freshly cracked black pepper, which took an already excellent dish to another level. My wife ordered the Little Gem Salad with shrimp, and it was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. We also shared the Tuna Tartare Tostada, which was outstanding--beautiful presentation, fresh tuna, and a great balance of textures and flavors. Adding to the experience was a bottle of Albariño that paired wonderfully with the meal. What stands out most about Dram Yard is its atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you can settle in, slow down, enjoy a handcrafted cocktail, and forget about the stresses of the day. Whether you're looking for a date night, an evening with friends, or simply a quiet place to relax, Dram Yard delivers. Excellent service, creative cocktails, outstanding food, and one of the most relaxing outdoor dining spaces in Wilmington. We'll definitely be back.
