A View Rooftop Bistro is located on the 7th floor of the Aloft Hotel. It is open late and the first night I ate at the bar and the second visit I got to go. The to go order lacked condiments, utensils, and any napkins. So they need to improve in this area. I didn't even think to look as I assumed I'd have everything I'd need. I was also disappointed that they don't have iced tea available just Pepsi products and alcohol. The first night I ordered a salad as I wanted something light and enjoyed that very much. Over $1k in hotel costs at this establishment as a Marriott member. The restaurant asked us to wait an hour. It's well past and they are not moving customers who are not paying and just sitting around. Told us it would be an additional 2.5 hours on top of what we just waited. Apparently there is a firework display tonight and they allowed non hotel customers to occupy the outdoor and bar seating and they are now taking hostage the tables. Those of us who would like dinner are out of luck even though we spent well over $400 a night to stay here. Also paid $25 per day for parking. There are no spots in the lot. The valet told me to risk parking next door at the museum without a permit and just try to have my car moved before they open in the morning. Absolutely not impressed with the establishment and hope that Marriott reviews this staff and management team and provides some training on the appropriate way to manage their responsibilities to their paying customer. read more

Tonight I went with some of my gal friends to aView for our monthly Girls Night Out. We've gone here before, but not for several months. It seems Mondays are "Music Bingo" night. We chose to sit outside so we could chat (there was a pre-concert party going on so it was noisy). Then when we asked for our checks, our server told us they could only take 3 credit cards per table. WHAT?? There were 4 of us. How stupid is this policy? I can understand not splitting up checks for large parties, but 4 people should not be a burden or an issue and in the past we've always been able to do this. When I spoke to the manager, AUSTIN, who was probably still in his twenties, about the loud music and the check splitting issue, he couldn't have cared less. NOT a good manager. If you want a great view of the Cape Fear River while dining this a great place to go. It's located on the rooftop of Aloft. The environment is very relaxed which was nice. You seat yourself, you have the option of covered indoor seating or outside, there were nice comfy couches and tables, so cute! The menu was simple, not a lot of options, but the options were great. Paul was the bartender and also our server. The place was busy, but Paul took care of us. We ordered an appetizer Brussel sprouts with pork belly, cranberries and feta cheese and two of the daily specials lollipop lamb chops came with couscous elote, absolutely delicious! We also had the 10oz. ribeye it came with mashed potatoes and broccolini, absolutely delicious! For dessert we had some type of layered lemon cake it was good. We sat ourselves as suggested by the hostess. No service was provided to us the entire time we patiently waited at our table for more than 20 mins (with the entire restaurant being fairly unoccupied and not busy). Not an offer of water, a menu, nothing. Looks from staff but ignored by all. One waiter came to pick up their tip left from the prior patron and when asked for assistance they simply told us, "continue waiting". They quickly walked away to service other customers that had just seated well after us . Ignoring us like we didn't exist was the same action taken from all the waiters/waitresses who helped everyone but us. Being the only POC in the bar it was clear we were not welcome there. We got the message and quietly left. As out of towners that visit Wilmington often during the summer, we will never be back to this business to endure this type of non-service. This new restaurant is located on the 7th floor inside the new Aloft Hotel. The elevator you take to the bistro is further inside, take a left turn after you past the check-in desk. Parking might be tricky as some of my party was not able to park in the Aloft parking lot. I ended up parking a few blocks down at one of the street metered parking spots (free after 6:30 p.m. and free on Sundays). They opened an hour later than their usual opening time, because they had a photo shoot planned. So we started with an appetizer and drinks at the WXYZ bar, located on the first floor right when you walk through the entrance. We sat inside the bistro since it was a bit chilly outside. The setting is comfortable casual. It'll be nice to sit outside when it gets warmer to watch the sunset. There were no outdoor heat warmers during my visit. We tried the Roasted vegetable salad ($12), Bavette ($18), Quinoa sliders ($15), and Bison Sliders ($17). Everything was amazing! Way better than I could have hoped for. I loved the variety of vegetables in the Roasted vegetable salad, especially the pickled onions as well as the crunchiness of the sliced almonds. I liked that it had the perfect amount of salad dressing, not too little and not drenched. This salad was enough to share for 3-4 people as a side salad. The Bavette (flank steak) is listed in the "start off" section, but it was a meal size. The chimichurri sauce was delicious and had a hint of spiciness. The beef was cooked according to the chef's liking, which was about medium-well done. The beef was so tender. The Quinoa sliders was a great vegetarian dish. I would definitely get this again. I didn't get much of a strong shiitake mushroom flavor or too much of the Japanese barbecue sauce. The Bison Sliders had me at one bite. So much flavor! Definitely recommend if you like meat. The sliders came with your choice of either truffle parmesan fries or sweet potato fries. The truffle parmesan fries tasted way better than the sweet potato fries. I liked the different shape of the truffle parmesan fries, they were a long oval shaped thinly sliced and super crispy. Sadly, we didn't have any room for dessert. They had an interesting dessert special that night too, a butternut squash type of dessert, I think cheesecake. I'm already looking forward to my next visit! read more

My husband and I had a wonderful experience at A View. We went on a Sunday evening and it wasn't busy so we were able choose a lovely high top near the window, but still in the A/C. Our server Kirsten was so welcoming and attentive. They offered a cocktail menu, but they were able to make a regular margarita for me with some good tequila choices. I can't pinpoint any exact reason(s) as to why I just visited this bistro, located on the 7th floor of the Aloft Hotel in downtown, Wilmington, but I'm very happy I did. My wife and I made a quick date night on a Tuesday evening and walked into the bistro around 6:30p. The bar was very busy with only a couple of random bar stools available but there was some available seating in the dining space so we grabbed a spot, which we eventually moved from to a table, sat and waited for about a minute before Alexis came over and introduced herself. FOOD: We placed our order for truffle fries and the crab croquette plates, which we were told came with a side of house-made bloody mary cocktail sauce. Sounded pretty good to me. The truffle fries were awesome. Just the right amount of seasoning, crisp, hot and beautiful. What made these unique is how AVRB shaves their potato fries rather than cutting them into rectangular sticks. Loved them! The crab croquettes were packed full of lump and backfin crab, delivering a ton of meat in each bite. They were adequately sized, fried lightly and served with that sauce. Honestly, these croquettes need no sauce at all, IMO, but I still mixed it up with the dipping method and both ways were great. The cocktail sauce first delivers that classic bloody mary flavor, followed up with a familiar cocktail flavor you'd find when eating chilled shrimp and then the heat kicks. And it does kick so be careful how much you use or your mouth will be on fire, or you'll drown out the flavor of the crab entirely. I also had an excessive amount of side sauce left over after eating the croquette so I would make the recommendation of using just half of the amount delivered going forward, which would reduce some costs for the bistro. A little of this stuff goes a long way. All in all, this was great food and I'm looking forward to returning to try a full-on 4 course dinner with duck or lamb. SCORE: 4.5 STARS!! DRINKS: Purple Heart; Espresso Martini, Double Rye Old Fashioned; Watermelon margarita, all prepared by mixologist Paul and his crew. This man takes adult beveraging to the next level! I don't have near enough room to type it all out but just know that the old fashioned I had was the best I've ever tasted. The icing on the top for this drink is how there is a cedar wood disc charred and then placed on top of the glass, trapping the smoke inside, which then infuses into the liquid. Holy shit!!! I was hooked and just stared at the glass as I sipped. If Heaven had alcohol (which, I'm pretty sure there isn't), this would be the nectar produced by the burning bush. This drink, alone, is worthy of 6 stars!!! My wife said her cocktails were incredible and we capped off with the espresso martini that didn't taste alcoholic. Each drink was perfectly crafted into consumable art, smooth and impressed the shit out of me. Screw it...Yelp only allows 5 stars? These cocktails were all solid 5's or 6's. SCORE: 5.5 STARS!!! SERVICE: Impeccable. Alexis was awesome, Paul was educational + informative and Ken Weaver (sous chef) came out to see how everything was. Ken has been trained and worked in Michelin Star restaurants and, at only 29 years old, is slinging out some tasty vittles.
