It's been a few years since I first tried Grinders during a Wilmington beach trip, and every time I come back I'm reminded of why they're still my favorite coffee shop in NC. The drinks have never been anything but amazing and the workers are always super friendly. If I lived closer, I would be here every day!

Grinders is an awesome cafe tucked off some main roads near campus. They have an immense menu with literally anything you can imagine. The drinks certainly aren't cheap ($7-10 on average) but they are worth it for a little treat. I love their chai with coconut milk. It is rich and creamy but not too sweat. Sometimes, I'll have the chai-nana which is blended chai with frozen banana and espresso cubes. I had the pumpkin spice latte yesterday with decaf espresso and it was perfect. I do know they've had issues with cleanliness before by the health department. It seemed fine when I went, but might be something of note. Sometimes you may have a good wait for your drink, so just be advised.

Great stuff. Chill and nice place, have live shows on weekend mornings. Love how they decorated the cafe, good spot go by yourself reading or chilling.

The coffee here is delicious! I always order a large dark roast red eye with room for cream. The beans they use are very aromatic and tasty. I always order a bagel from next door to enjoy my coffee with, but they have a nice selection of baked goods here too.

Hippified coffeeshop located in a strip mall next to the Wilmington Brewery on Kerr Ave. They re-opened seating areas at the beginning of the summer, a few couches, chairs and bar stools by the windows. Lots of space including a restroom for patrons and a stage for live music or recently a showcase for funky items for purchase like candles, books, mindfulness products, etc. They have a lengthy menu of fun concoctions from basic caffeinated drinks to flavorful smoothies and other creative beverages. Throughout the year they have season blends of themed drinks. Disclaimer: For the coffee purest, the drinks are made sweet so if you prefer drier taste I recommend adjusting the ingredients; the staff is super friendly and helpful to guide you through the process if needed. Also, there's a bar top of pastries and a display case of refrigerated food items from local entrepreneurs like Luna Rose GF Confections, Lime & Lemon, Veggie Wagon, among others. Favorite to date: Jumbo iced Choffee, a mix of chai spicing with regular coffee topped with your choice of milk or plant-based beverage (or not). They add cinnamon dusted ice cubes that add that much more burst of flavor. I order it with an espresso shot or two to make it less sweet.

First time coming here. There was quite a bit of people waiting, but I dining mind. I ordered the season witches brew iced and a Mexican mocha hot for my husband. That first sip.. wow. Top tier coffee. I was very pleased! I will return. For at least a pick up, since the place isn't too kid/ family friendly.

I usually try their seasonal and creative flavors when I go! They have some amazing mixes and a variety of drinks including coffee, milkshakes, teas, smoothies and more! I also like to buy a snack they have available from local businesses. The vibe is really cool and encourages the use of reusable items including straws! The outside seating area is created perfectly for where it's located and pet friendly! Good place to have a meeting with friends, read a book or do some work on your computer. I recommend you try and get some yummy coffee!

When I was in college I did not frequent their original location--it wasn't "my vibe," if you will. It felt like a great place to catch up with a friend, but not so much to study. My friend who still lives in Wilmington said the new location would be perfect for getting work done, and she was right! The new Grinder's has kept the intimate feeling of a meet-up spot while making the space more functional for working. Walking into the new Grinder's felt like viewing a totally upgraded version of the last one--which is exactly what it is. I loved the clean look of the tables & seating areas and the variety of handmade items, small treats to eat, and especially coffee drinks to choose from. I opted for the Mi Mami, which is cold brew, lavender & vanilla flavoring, and a drizzle of honey. It was highly caffeinated and super yummy. They have so many unique combinations for their drinks that will make you want to keep coming back to try them all. I'm so glad to see that Grinder's was able to get back on their feet after the hurricane and they are better than ever!

When I served in the Navy (nuclear-trained electrician on submarines), I quickly learned that it was coffee not the nuclear plant that made the sub go. Another lesson is learning that very good coffee does not need any alteration with creamer or sugar (my wife disagrees vehemently about this, but I extend grace to her as she is willing to put up with me). Many times I've had coffee that needed help at other so-called coffee houses but have been very pleasantly surprised by many of the places in the Wilmington area. Walking into Grinder's Cafe I was very impressed with the layout; some tables and comfortable furniture with ample space for groups or just a sit down for a private chat with someone. Great blend of music playing softly (some smooth jazz that was perfect for the atmosphere there when we first walked in). The coffee was fantastic as is and the staff there were incredibly helpful and friendly. They even have a drink called "The Tony" and if I had seen that when I first arrived would have checked that out. Next time for sure.

Photography by 3Spade7Star @3Spade7Star_photography…read moreJanuary 25, 2026 - Sunday The Black Cat Shoppe was on my to go see list in Wilmington to see if I could get on a historical tour in a motor vehicle. Unfortunately, they don't have historical tours but they do have tours on foot and it was not feasible for me to do after having a surgery on my hip & leg - still healing. So I browsed the store for a long period and had the most fun with using the coin operated crystal vending machine. For two quarters you can get one to three crystals with a turn of the knob on the machine. I was lucky to get three crystals several times. You don't know how many or what kind of crystals you will get, yet it is fun, and the crystals make a great gift to give to people. I got a lot of green aventurine crystals and crystals I usually would not select like dalmation jasper & a dull moonstone. It was a steal since most crystals are $1-3 each for the sizes I received of these crystals. Alyssa was very engaging and stellar in providing me information and generating more sales effortlessly - just by answering all my questions and showing me different rings stocked inside the ring display. She was delightful, memorable, and helped me select the perfect rings to wear on my index and third finger. I got 3 rings for $24.99. Other items I purchased was: money attraction incense & oudh resin in a glass bottle for incense, unique oracle cards with funny yes & no answers, stickers, a pamphlet detailing all the places where television series and movies were filmed at in Wilmington, North Carolina, and post cards. The postcards were only $1. I should have bought a book there that I thought I already had. The book is The Ghosts of Old Wilmington by John Hirchak. The book is signed by the writer. I had two ghost books about Wilmington but it was not that one. Yet it is another reason I should go back to The Black Cat Shoppe. I plan to come back here and go on their tours later in the future. This is a place I plan to visit again the next time I come to Wilmington, North Carolina.
