Unfortunately, they don't have historical tours but they do have tours on foot and it was not feasible for me to do after having a surgery on my hip & leg - still healing. So I browsed the store for a long period and had the most fun with using the coin operated crystal vending machine. For two quarters you can get one to three crystals with a turn of the knob on the machine. I was lucky to get three crystals several times. You don't know how many or what kind of crystals you will get, yet it is fun, and the crystals make a great gift to give to people. I got a lot of green aventurine crystals and crystals I usually would not select like dalmation jasper & a dull moonstone. It was a steal since most crystals are $1-3 each for the sizes I received of these crystals. Alyssa was very engaging and stellar in providing me information and generating more sales effortlessly - just by answering all my questions and showing me different rings stocked inside the ring display. She was delightful, memorable, and helped me select the perfect rings to wear on my index and third finger. I got 3 rings for $24.99. Other items I purchased was: money attraction incense & oudh resin in a glass bottle for incense, unique oracle cards with funny yes & no answers, stickers, a pamphlet detailing all the places where television series and movies were filmed at in Wilmington, North Carolina, and post cards. The postcards were only $1. I should have bought a book there that I thought I already had. The book is The Ghosts of Old Wilmington by John Hirchak. The book is signed by the writer. I had two ghost books about Wilmington but it was not that one. Yet it is another reason I should go back to The Black Cat Shoppe. I plan to come back here and go on their tours later in the future. This is a place I plan to visit again the next time I come to Wilmington, North Carolina. read more

Even though it's a product of my generation, I've never seen One Tree Hill, but I still thought it was cool that this store was a filming location. You can find all sorts of kitschy things here. Souvenirs, magnets, and gag gifts of all sorts. Plus sage, incense, and an array of crystals and jewelry to cleanse and bring in good energy. I enjoyed perusing the store, although I didn't end up buying anything. read more

It's a cool shop. Lots of novelty and gag gifts for sale. Signs and other items with potty humor and sexual innuendo. I should buy this place since it is right up my alley. Thought about buying the squirrel underwear but my squirrel likes to go buck naked. One other tip, they sell tickets to ghost and other tours here. read more

Busy cute little store to buy jewelry, crystals, games, gag gifts and much more. Was there last night while visiting the Riverwalk and downtown Wilmington. My kids thought this place was pretty cool and this is where they ended up getting their vacation souvenirs. If any of you are familiar with the Archie McPhee catalogue out of Seattle - it almost feels like a store front for them - tons of funny and cool novelty items. For about $20 we purchased: 1) A rubber dog head puppet that looked like Triumph the Insult Comic Dog from Conan 2) a small rubber foot you can put on your finger 3) an automatic rubber band gun that was actually pretty cool 4) three pieces of toxic waste candy We had fun trying on some of the rubber masks - a pigeon, horse, unicorn - they were some of the items on the pricier side $34.99 which you can get similar ones for on the dreaded evil Amazon for only $15. Cool place to check out for big and little kids - I think they sell tickets to and operate ghost walking tours too! read more

I came back today with my daughter and I enjoyed it much more. I actually spent time looking at all the cool finds. They have beautiful moon necklaces and will look up the day you were born and tell you which moon it was. The prices are very well priced on everything. I love this shop. Been coming here for years before I even moved to this town. It's always full the fun, the absurd, the unique gifts for your hard to buy for friends. Always the go to place to find a gift you know they've never seen before. Hell a gift they've never even known existed! They have the friendliest staff. They are always willing to help you find the perfect item. Explain where some of their more interesting things come from. Plus they have great masks!! On top of being a super cool little store in the middle of our historic downtown shopping district they really keep up with current affairs. This is one of the many places that are striving to protect their employees and customers alike. I'm grateful as my immune system is compromised. Since I have a black cat, I had to see what kinds of black cats they were offering here. Unfortunately, they don't sell any black cats, or black cat accessories. They do sell a bunch of novelty items, trinkets, toys and games! They have a bunch of stuff that looks like it came from the Archie McFee catalog. Think exotic potion bottles, band-aids with Batman on them, rubber eyeballs, and funny calendars. Their selection of jigsaw puzzles was, well, puzzling! I've never seen a store stock so many funny jigsaw puzzles! If you're into puzzles, this is the place for you. The staff was friendly and fast. They offer free stuff if you spend a lot, and free stickers to help them advertise! We got a bunch of Wilmington postcards, which were cheaper than we found them in the other gift shops around here. Parking can be a hassle here, since it's where the action is in Wilmington. read more

Yikes. I was one of four or five people who strolled around on Sunday. The person behind the counter spoke to none of us. Not even when she was ringing up a purchase. News Flash and Tip: One way to better enjoy a job you hate? Smile. Talk, You might sell something. And get a raise. Or at least make the day pass by faster. The stuff sold there is mostly made from China. I kept thinking there was a bus station urine smell that kept getting stronger and stronger the further I walked into the store. I figured out, midway, that it was the incense. After looking at toys from my childhood, and giggling, my friend and I left, feeling like we were laughing in a funeral parlor. read more

This little shop is a true gem in this downtown shopping district. The staff is always friendly and the merchandise is always hilarious! I could buy this place out of the funny magnets! The prices aren't extravagant like they could be for the area, and even if you're not purchasing anything, it's a blast looking through the shop. This is a must when visiting Wilmington. read more

Visited Wilmington for a weekend back in March. It was gorgeous!! Decided to take a Haunted Pub Crawl and I'm so glad we did! We had such a great time! We stopped at four different bars and enjoyed a drink and ghost story from old days past! I'd definitely recommend this tour to those of drinking age. It was great! Not only did we stop into some bars I'd never been in before, we learned some cool history! I love Wilmington for its old Port City history. It's just a totally different vibe from my hometown in Pennsylvania (and yet very oddly similar even though my town is tiny). I enjoyed seeing the old buildings bones and new decor all mixed in together... and walking downtown Wilmington is always a treat on a Saturday night! read more

I saw cool stuff through the window that lured me in here and I'm so glad I went inside. They have hilarious gag gifts, funny magnets and signs, unique party favors and great stuff to give as gifts for someone that has an adult sense of humor. I laughed out loud while reading their wall of magnets - definitely not for those that cringe at profanity or politically incorrect humor. Their prices were on-point for what I would expect to pay for these types of items. Even if you don't see anything you want to buy (hard to imagine!), it's a fun place to check out. read more

Cute boutique with unique and cute items. I went in with my one year old and Iet her walk around a bit. The lady who worked there seemed frustrated that I allowed my baby to walk around. She made a point to show me to the baby section and offer some items from there to keep baby busy. It was more her tone that frustrated me- as if baby wasn't welcome. read more

Love the name, the adorable arced black cat logo and the merchandise! It's a small, kooky shop where you can find your typical gag-gifts, tourist souvenirs, pirate themed nick-knacks, etc -- but it has a nifty occult spin in terms of theme. The cashiers are always friendly and engaging and, although their prices are a bit steep -- I've shopped there twice and plan on going back again. It's one of my favorite Downtown Wilmington shops. read more

Cool little shop with some cool little stuff down in Wilmington, NC. Every college town has a shop like this. Lots of neat and interesting stuff in there. I defy you to find anything in there you actually need, but if you're 30 or under I guarantee you'll find something you'll want. The munchkins loved it. read more

this was the cutest little shop, everything was fairly priced (keep in mind this is a tourist destination), with tons of fun little knick knacks and books. They have a good section of trot cards and all the good spiritual stuff as well :-) the guy that was working was so helpful and even showed me what moon phase i was born under!! read more

Tucked between a bistro and a gourmet shop, this shop is an amazing collection of crap. (I really do mean that in the best way possible.) I love stores like this! A small curio shop packed from front to back with all sorts of surprises; sort of like a Spencer's Gifts but without the extreme tackiness. Plenty of off-color gag gifts, natural soaps, incense, candles, small games and puzzles, and lots of Wilmington and pirate themed souvenir items, and much more. This is also the place to purchase tickets for the Wilmington Ghost Walk and a few other guided walking tours. (The tour I took will warrant its own review shortly.) Plus, they give you a reusable shopping bag emblazoned with the shop's black cat logo if you purchase over a certain amount! read more

Everything but black cats in The Black Cat Shoppe! To go on the ghost walk, we were to buy our tickets at this shoppe, and I'm so glad we did. We didn't have enough time before the walk, so we came in afterwards and were glad we did. Lots of funny souvenirs that have nothing to do with WIlmington but are funny about life. The shoppe is chock full of cool trinkets, gadgets, gags and tchotchkes you won't see anywhere else. I could have spent hours in this little shoppe. read more

My boyfriend and I did the ghost walk and were thoroughly spooked. It was the perfect blend of learning history, seeing Wilmington on foot, and having great entertainment for the night. Our tour guide Anthony was great and was a wonderful storyteller. Would definitely recommend this for a fun night out! read more

The Black Cat Shoppe indeed. I can still smell its pee! I guess that explains the burning incense in this joint. Besides the incensy cat urine smell, the store has all kinds of great gadgets and gifts. Like the "crazy cat lady" action figure, mustache band-aids, and chicken head masks. This place is seriously fun to browse...and of course, you'll need to buy something. Who can leave without a human organ lunch box or Ouija board mints? This place would be five stars if it weren't for the smell...Meeeooow!!! read more

If you are a fan of any of the shows filmed in Wilmington (One Tree Hill, Under The Dome etc), than this is a place well worth checking out! There are tokens and trinkets galore from the shows and other souvenirs advertising Wilmington. I will be back next time I'm here!
