I saw the Occasions ... Just Write store from the sidewalk and just had to go inside. It is on the top level of the Cotton Exchange. The Cotton Exchange has its own parking lot, and stores in the Exchange validate parking. The small business is women-owned and filled with so many treasures. There is a great selection of cards, notecards, stationery, postcards, journals and pens. But they also carry specialty art paints. The shop has a very warm, cozy, and inviting atmosphere with items beautifully displayed. The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable, allowing you to browse at your leisure, which I liked, as I am never sure what I will be drawn to and like to let items find me. Very good but could be even better. I really appreciated the fact that I was able to find a Leuchtturm 1917 journal to use as my Bullet Journal and some excellent Blackwing pencils. They also had a number of fountain pens to choose from, though I was not in the market so skipped over them. This alone is enough to make this a regular stop for me on my visits to Wilmington. On the downside, I spent a good 20 minutes browsing in the store AND made a purchase and the clerk never really engaged me other than seeming to keep an eye out that I was not shoplifting. When I was leaving I saw a sign outside the door that they were promoting a special project where people could write notes to service people overseas. I didn't see the sign when i came in and never did the clerk asks me if I wanted to contribute to the project -- which I totally would have. I absolutely DO NOT like clerks who are all over you when you are shopping, but a friendly greeting and promotion of an event like they were running is not overboard. read more

I was in town to see the USS North Carolina and was walking through the historic district when I stopped by Just Write, I was curious since writing and stationery stores are not very common. I enjoyed the selection and not only did I make an unplanned purchase based on their recommendation (a pen made from the teak deck of the USS North Caronlina) I also inquired of what other sights that would be nice to visit in the area and was given quite a few to consider complete with the history of the places. I was impressed with the personalized service I received. Another reason why I like to stop by local businesses. read more

This was a very nice stationary store. They did have more greeting cards than actual paper but it was still nice. I did find a good deal on a Lamy Fountain pen but I did find it $10 cheaper on Amazon but I like to support local businesses. read more

Pro tip to the clerk who was working, maybe she was the owner, I don't know: if you treated us a little nicer and didn't hawk eye us the entire time we were in your store, we would have bought something. We walked in, she got out of line from the coffee shop across the hallway to grumble some semblance of a greeting at us, and watched us the entire time we were in there. She ran up to my boyfriend and stood there in his face when he was simply looking at something. We're not sketchy looking people. And even if we were, that's still not now you treat someone. Sorry, I'm not a thief, I was a paying customer, but I'm not that either now. read more

It's a bright browsable shop in the Cotton Exchange buildings. The owner, Peggy, welcomed me when I walked in. I was looking for a particular color of ink. Peggy was very knowledgeable about the selection and pointed out a couple of options to me. The selection of pens, notebooks, stationery and accessories was really extensive. I left with a new color of fountain pen ink to try. I'll be back! read more

I LOVE this store. The best and varied cards, from humorous to serious to romantic to the extraordinary pop-up ones. I always get a comment from the person I send them to because they are so unique. I used the beautiful wrapping paper at Xmas, I've given pens and stationary as gifts, and I've had invitations and cards printed. I've filled my daughter's stocking at Xmas with the many choices of those interesting "little" things. I find something new every time I go in and the owner is friendly and helpful but doesn't hover which is my preference. This store is one of a kind in wilmington, right in the cotton exchange, facing front street. I will always go there first when I have an occasion I want to acknowledge. read more
