The people working here are skilled and very friendly and happy to explain their menu My wife had the campfire latte, which was a gentle s'mores flavor with freshly crumbled graham cracker topping in a marshmallow they toasted right in front of you as a top. Most importantly, it was very coffee forward on flavor with very minimal but appropriate use of sweetening flavors. I had the chocolate cherry truffle latte, which was again very coffee forward with very subtle and perfectly balanced flavors. Most interestingly, the drinks were a very fair price, because with this level of artistry in presentation you'd expect it to be expensive. Maven coffee is as good as the last time I was here years ago, it is the best coffee in town. They have renovated since then with more seating inside and outdoors. Had to get the latte with the cloud as pictured on their Instagram. On the menu it is titled brown sugar and vanilla cloud latte with popping pearls. Comes in either 12 ounce or 16 ounces. Didn't get a cool picture of the cloud since I had my hands full with a baby, but it was very cool to see. The cloud is food grade glycerin, vanilla flavored. I finished the 12 ounces easily because it was so good. I almost wished I got the 16 ounces. The coffee is just so flavorful! No public restrooms. read more

I needed my daily afternoon fix of CAF and decided to try this glorified doll house. The espresso I got tasted like aged cocoa and here's the kicker: they have no sugar, honey or anything to sweeten the bitterness of it. They had no half-half either. I was raised in NYC/MIA and I've never been to a coffee place that didn't have any sweetner or half-half. I guess thy want to be over the moon original and they've succeeded. my friend says this is the best matcha in wilmington- wrong. the people that like the matcha here do not like actual matcha. the matcha scene here is not good in general and this is no exception. the 12 oz that looked like a kids cup of matcha was $9.10 without a tip. the matcha was khaki colored instead of green and just not great. i can't get over that is was $9 and so bad. i drank matcha all over LA and even those matchas were not $9. read more

Our small group was helped by a highly knowledgeable barista who took pride in her work! She was very sweet and helped a lot in the decision-making process. The coffee was good, but a little bit overpriced. I got an iced latte, but next time I would probably do one of their more expensive speciality drinks for the experience. When it comes to coffee places, I've come to learn that paying extra for flavored syrups is usually a waste. One potential downside to note is that there's not much space in the shop to meet others or work, and there isn't a bathroom accessible. I do think I would try it again! read more

Okay, this has to be the coolest coffee shop I've ever been to. The owner goes very in depth to explain how each item is made, and where the beans are sourced from. You can tell how much he cares about his craft and it definitely shows in the taste of the coffee. The campfire was outstanding. He explained that they did a marshmallow tasting to find the absolute best marshmallow to use. After the coffee is made and the marshmallow is toasted, they put it in this vase type of thing. Then they use a smoking gun and fill it with cherry wood chips that gives it the most delicious taste. I was amazed at how meticulous he was with every single cup he made. I'm a big fan of local coffee roasters - when I travel, that's what I seek out - so I was excited when I learned about Maven. It seemed like they knew their stuff and that it would be a high-end, delicious experience. I've been a couple of times and while it *is* a high-end, delicious experience, it's not one I'll be pursuing again. After my last visit, I've decided it's truly my last. I can tell they put a ton of care into their beverages. They weigh the beans for every drink, will let you select which of their varieties you want for your beverage (as opposed to most coffee shops that have one espresso roast, you can use any of their beans for your drink), have tasty seasonal beverages along with a consistent menu, and are very informed and kind. They love their product. What I don't love is mostly the price. The last time I went I got a drink (one size, fairly small) and beans and it cost 1/3 more than it would have cost at another shop. And unlike other shops where I can sit and relax, space is minimal at Maven. The last drink that I had would have been lovely to sit and sip with a book, but there wasn't anywhere to do that on a cold day. Yes, I know they're particular about how they source and roast, but so are other roasters in town and roasters I've been to in other cities. With other high-quality options at a much lower price point, it comes across as pretentious that they charge so much. I feel harsh saying that when my interactions there have all been lovely, but it's the truth. Having bought beans a few times, I don't find them much different than others I've bought. It feels more like a status symbol going there. It *is* a good product. No criticism. But for the price point, I'll support some of the other amazing roasters in town. read more

Came here because we couldn't believe how highly rated it was, but we were blown away. Owner was passionate about her craft and had carefully curated every menu item, down to the homemade baked goods that were created to match the beverages. I got the campfire latte which was pretty pricey ($8.15 +$1 for oat milk) and a sea salt browned butter chocolate chip cookie. Small menu, definitely coffee centric (no chai or other teas) but my friend was able to get a matcha latte off menu-- they used ceremonial grade matcha for it. Hands down the best coffee in Wilmington, and at least personally, some of the best coffee I've had anywhere. They definitely appeal to people who are interested in finding something new and interesting in their cup, so if you want to get outside the flavor profiles of your typical sit down coffee shop this is your place. At the same time, they have specialty lattes and baked goods that feel like luxurious comfort food. Do not be deceived by the size of this place, there is so much knowledge, passion and deliciousness to behold. Today was my first time and Nico was patient in explaining their selection and process for microlots. I could tell once Nico started sharing that his passion was for me and others to experience the beauty of a coffee bean fruit just like a sommelier has a passion for the grape. My dad and I explored 3 different beans, 2 done as espresso and one as a pour over, trusting Nico to determine which method to best bring out the bean. Wow! The taste was rich and light, developing various notes and evolution as it cooled. After sampling the pink bourbon, luz linares and maven signature, I bought a bag of luz linares. We enjoyed the tasty treats as well -- canela (crispy outside and soft inside, baked mix of creme brulee and flan. delicious and original!) and the spanish bagette (loved dipping this in our coffee of luz linares, tasted like a chocolate donut!). Cannot rave enough about this place, and I look forward to coming back. read more
