I'm so glad we stopped in. This has got to be one of the cutest coffee shops I've been to. Decor is so pretty and girly, drinks are pretty and good too - and the decor, stationary and shopping are so adorable. They offered custom crepes although I didn't get one because we had breakfast reservations elsewhere. I would have though! I ordered the prettiest drink which was called You're Like Really Pretty. A nod to Mean Girls I assume. It was tasty, I wish I could go back for another. I also wish we had something like this in Charlotte. Can't wait to return on a future visit. read more

Adorable coffee shop just a mile from the beach - perfect place to caffeinate up before hanging out on the water! Stopped here both days before going to Wrightsville. It's a small, cute shop with stationery and other retail/merch available as well. They have pastries and some beer/wine too. If you don't want to be on the actual beach, this would be a great place to relax for a bit. We swung by and got some iced coffees and americanos. Good pricing and fast/friendly service. Sunday morning coffee because Periwinkle opened at 7am. Thank goodness. Two friendly baristas prepared a cappuccino for Mrs. K. and a cortado for me. It could only have been more perfect if they were in proper cups. Oh, well. Mrs. K. said, "Best cup of coffee since I can remember." Interesting little coffee shop in an unusual spot on the lower level of an apartment building. The interior decor was really nicely done, lots of interesting choices. I ordered up one of their signature drinks I believe it was a Goldie not 100%, on the name but it was a mixture of different things but for me it just didn't execute and got really muted quickly. Anyhow it didn't hit the spot for anyone. A big negative for me was all the pictures show a really decadent cream top and looked like a sweet side drink, but in my case the cream top was very thin and looked nothing like all the posted photos. read more

Cute coffee shop with lots of stationary and cute items for purchase. They have a good number of coffee flavors and were very pleasant to encounter. They allow you to customize almost any drink. Parking wasn't bad, even though it was by an apartment complex. It's right off Wrightsville, so an easy location if you're staying at the beach. read more

I wanted to try a new coffee shop while out Christmas shopping this week and decided to try Periwink, as it looked in photos like a cute environment. Although the coffee was good, while it was being prepared, I browsed the shop and was quite shocked at the MANY profanity laced products in the gift shop area. Had I noticed beforehand, I probably would not have even given my money to this business. I almost never leave reviews for restaurants and businesses, but after several days of pondering my visit there, I was so bothered and felt compelled to speak out. I am so glad I did not bring a friend or my grandkids into that space. read more

Women owned business! Great vibe. Location: Parking lot with ample parking no meters. In a lot right before you start crossing over the bridge to reach wrightsville beach. Nice space inside too with various seating areas. Wi-Fi available. You can work here easily without disruption from crowds. Music is playing though. Very clean. Nicely decorated. Merch: various kinds of stationary, books, glassware, mocktails, stemware, vinyl stickers etc. Staff: greeted by a very sweet women behind the counter who offered a variety of drink options and included you being able to have a custom coffee. I went back two days later and two young ladies were working the counter and just as nice! Food: variety of veggie wagon options. I had the English muffin egg and cheese sandwich and they warmed up. Very tasty. Also small variety also of fresh pastry items. They also offer chips and snacks. Drinks: on day 1, I had the signature lavender iced latte with sweet foam topping but I also added one of the powder toppings at the self serve station. On trip 2 I did the golden girl and that I enjoyed much better. I love that they offered individual packets with various flavors. It allowed you to control the flavoring. They offer various style sweeteners too. Milk options are all there except fat free (skim/no fat) but I opted in for coconut. They also offer other beverage types by can etc. Also SMOOTHIES! Overall very nice place and good tasting coffee and food. A little pricey but you get what you pay for. I prefer to pay the premium for a great cup of coffee. read more

A good option for coffee if you are in the area, but don't want to go close to the beach. I got a large oat milk cappuccino, which came out very good. I like that there is an option to order a large one as many places do not offer that. Service was very pleasant, but seemed a bit fake. Comedian bathrooms, moderate parking lot size. Oh my goodness! Absolutely loved the vibe (and baristas) of this place!! So perfectly clean, the drinks were delicious (kudos for donations to breast cancer awareness for the month of October, which I casually mentioned I was dealing with). My granddaughter and I both had the amazing homemade pop tarts - yum!!! Then we spent time perusing all the very fun and quirky stationary, stickers and gifts. Everything is sooo thoughtfully displayed. On top of all that... I purchased two cards, and when I came home, the little bag had a personal additional card for me, from the baristas, rooting me on in my journey! Do you even know what that means?!?!? So. I've visited my fair share of local / independent coffee shops over the years. During that time, I've come to realize that "pretentious and/or condescending" energy is one of my biggest turn offs for coffee shops, and can break the experience for me immediately, regardless of whether or not the coffee is good and the decor is cute. In the past, I would still give coffee shops with this kind of energy a chance. These days, with so many coffee shops to choose from, I no longer spent my time, energy, and money in these types of establishments. It doesn't happen often, but it did happen at Periwink when I tried to stop in for a coffee one weekday morning. For context, I'm a former barista who used to work in a very high volume, tourist-heavy coffee shop. Like everyone who works in a customer-facing service position, baristas have a lot on their plates. I'm conscious of all of this every time I visit a coffee shop, so it actually takes a lot for me to criticize a barista. In the case of Periwink, it was actually a team of them. I went in on a weekday morning. The place was empty except for three ladies working behind the bar and two women customers who had come in together. They two customers were talking to the three employees -- not about placing an order or anything in particular, but just having an in-depth conversation. It seemed like they might have known each other. I got in line and patiently waited. I watched the two customers receive their espresso drinks. The conversation continued for close to a full five minutes with me waiting in line. Several times, the baristas looked up and met my eyes, but then quickly darted them away and went back to the conversation. No one working said anything to me at all during this time, which is really out of the ordinary, especially considering eye contact was made. Usually an employee will through a, "We'll be with you in just a moment!" or something in there. That didn't happen here. I was completely ignored, and it felt very intentional. Eventually I turned to walk out, and even when I did this, no one called out to me to try to serve me. They just continued with their conversation. The whole thing was unnecessarily uncomfortable, and I truly felt as if I wasn't welcomed or wanted in this establishment. With all of the other wonderful independent coffee shops around Wilmington, I would highly recommend skipping this one and going somewhere else. read more

From start to finish, periwink was everything I'd want out of a coffee shop. I knew this initially walking up to the front door and seeing writing on it, stating "BYOD: Bring your own dog (or someone elses)We don't care.", and with that you know the type of place you're going into! The best type. My better half and I were "vibing" to the 90s/2000s music playing throughout, and mesmerized by the varying items throughout the store. From a "DILF" sticker my lady bought, to the "booby" wrapping paper, to the "go shawty it's your birthday" candle, there are many different types of things you might want to drop money on. From the moment my daughter and i walked in the front door, we felt really welcoming energy and a great vibe. I had the pleasure of speaking with the owner Lauren. They offer 70 different syrups, including 10 sugar-free and 12 extracts, along with something new I learned called adaptorgenics. Every beverage is a personal creation of Lauren's and is truly a passion and craft. The coffee drinks are Never stirred but are prepared with the principal of thermo dynamics . By not stirring the coffee, it allows for a natural immersion of flavors. One of the things that resonated most was the conviction that Lauren shared that she wants her coffee to be an experience that's unique, personal, healing, restorative, and promotes social connections with her customers and her staff. There was an atmosphere of thoughtful consideration and kindness throughout our visit. I haven't even mentioned all the cool merchandise in the store. The store is full of positive affirmation and humorous stationary, stickers, and trinkets. I found a sticker for my Stanley cup that had a message I really needed. I was recommend to come and try this place and I instantly fell in love as soon as I walked in! The baristas were extremely nice and friendly, taking their time going over the menu and making me a secret menu drink (y'all need to try the chocolate covered strawberry cold brew...like seriously!). While I was waiting for my drink I was looking at all the stationary and found so many cute things. We talked about my pittie and they encouraged me to bring him in next time I visit as they are a dog friendly place and love their furry friends. 10/10 recommend stopping here and giving this place a chance. It's one of my favorite spots in Wilmington and as a girlie who loves stationary it's a dream come true.
