Blue Cup is located in the Cargo district of Wilmington. Their coffee is strong (thinking Starbucks aficionados would do well to come here). And it is an improvement over the aforementioned. Meaning if you like dark coffee...this is your place. They understand what a flat white is most of the time and for me, who prefers lighter fruity roasts...their hit you in the nutz strength is well tempered with ordering a latte or FW if you follow me. While strong, it is beautifully roasted and does not leave you with a burnt taste. But you will not get those third wave hoity toity "notes" them nerds dream about. The staff...oh the staff...I do NOT know how they maintain such an upbeat and encouraging disposition encased in a tiny metal box all day, but when I have felt very low and needed some community love...I have always been lifted up by their vibe even before I get my cup of brew. Over New Year's, we had this coffee inside our houseboat, and my husband--who's more of a coffee drinker than I am--absolutely fell in love with it. He had me try it too, and I was amazed! I usually prefer a light coffee that's not too strong or burnt-tasting (unlike a certain popular chain...), and this one was perfect. We enjoyed it together on the top deck patio of our boat--such a cozy and memorable experience. While thinking of Father's Day gift ideas, I decided to get him a bag of the same coffee we enjoyed on the boat--along with a T-shirt. I looked at other people's reviews before visiting and saw the very pale matchas, but there were so many reviews that said it was good that I went anyway. The matcha is terrible. I got a matcha latte with whole milk and it tasted like sweetened milk. They up charge for oat and almond milk. My boyfriend got the banana pudding latte and didn't taste anything like banana? just a lot of cinnamon. The coffee itself was okay. Th matcha is okay, you cant really taste it its mainly milk you taste but not the worst I've had. It was almost $8 for a small which is WILD. The service was fine, the lady charging me seemed to not like being there and isn't into small talk lol. The location is so cute though. read more

Cute spot in the Cargo district. Inexpensive. We got out coffee pretty quickly. Iced Americano and oat flat white. We didnt try any syrup flavors, they used the brand 183. We ordered at an outdoor window. A small display of baked goods was situated beside the window. We unfortunately didn't order any baked goods this time. The iced Americano was very good. Not only was I late in life to the coffee game, but now that I have been drinking it for about two years, I have become a little bit of a snob. Blue Cup checks all the boxes for the coffee connoisseur side of me. They have so many delicious options and their specials are very unique. Some of them may seem out of the box or you may think it could taste odd, but whatever they put together blends well and compliments all the ingredients. They also have a good selection of different milks and their flavors are made in house (for example their vanilla). The other thing about this location that is super cool is the drive thru! I even tried coffee black (Ethiopia) The coffee I tried was so smooth you don't even need milk, cream, almond milk anything... You can take it black!!( Try Ethiopia) HOT, Iced , AMAZING !! This location has been a handful of coffee shops/roasteries in a pretty short amount of time. Each time once closes and re-opens as something else I get pretty curious about how the next one will do. When Blue Cup opened I was a bit bummed about the last shop closing, but stopped in. And found myself stopping in fairly frequently. A few things I like... ~Really fun, unique seasonal options. Currently they have a matcha with a dash of hot sauce in it and it's somehow the perfect meld of flavors. ~Solid decaf. I switched from caffeinated coffee a while ago and good decaf is hard to find. ~Tons of outdoor seating. I can't really credit that to them since it's shared Outpost space, but I still like it. Downside is that the WiFi is wonky - gives me a warning about security if I try to use it - so if I'm there to work I use my hotspot. ~Near other super trendy businesses that can be fun to check out. Especially nice on the days that there are artists markets. Really, the seasonal drinks are what keeps me going back and I like to try to get them all. Downside is that I'd say each drink is a bit pricier than other shops in town, but once in a while I'm okay with the splurge. read more

Every time I visit I have a different experience with the coffee. Depending on the barista, the coffee is drinkable at best, but often times I can only manage to take a few sips before I go get coffee somewhere else. A few baristas make a really good cup, but I don't see them working often or they end up no longer working the. The unreliable roasting and uneven drink production make it too risky to spend my money here again. read more
