Undercooked kabobs in the trash - attempted to cook it further to no avail
    Sean J.

We made the drive from Potomac to Germantown specifically to support Caspian, going out of our way for what we hoped would be a great experience. Unfortunately, it was anything but. The restaurant was completely empty when we arrived, and our takeout order was ready on time. However, upon returning home (a 20-minute drive each way), we discovered that the kubideh kabob was undercooked--raw in some parts--and inedible. Even the cooked portions tasted bitter, like baking soda. Consuming undercooked red meat is dangerous, and this was simply unacceptable. Desperate to salvage the meal, we even tried cooking the kabob further at home to see if it would help, but it didn't. While the joojeh was fine, it didn't make up for the disaster of the kubideh. When we called to address the issue, we eventually received a return call from the owner or manager. While they apologized, they insisted we drive the kabob back to get a refund--even though we had clear pictures showing the uncooked meat. They explained this was necessary to "prove" the kitchen staff was at fault and that the refund would be deducted from their pay (!). For less than $100, we were expected to return in the rain, with guests at home waiting for food, to get a refund. This short-sighted and frankly unprofessional response from the owner ensured we will never return. Ultimately, we had to order pizza to feed our guests. The lack of accountability and customer service ruined what could have been a great experience. If you're considering Caspian, save yourself the time, effort, and frustration--we certainly wish we had.

Love the food here. Prices have gone up considerably the last few years but still worth an occasional visit.

The food was good, but they serve outside orders better than inside customers. The environment was noisy. Parking was good.

To my luck, we had great Uzbek food less than 15 mins away! It was a while ago but we ordered the samsa, manti, kutabi, plov, and chohohbli, and I can't recall what else but we loved it! Last night my husband and I decided to dine in. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with cultural artifacts and art. This may just be a me thing but the serveware was envy worthy. It was gorgeous. I'm obsessed with beautiful dishware. There were only two people taking orders and serving food for an almost full dining room so we were understanding of a bit of a wait time. The staff were very friendly and checked in on us when they could. We ordered the khachipuri, samsa, oxtail, chohobli, steamed rice, pilmeni, and hot tea. Both the khachipuri and samsa were flaky pastries: khachapuri filled with a salty stretchy cheese with a cheese pull that tasted better than it was Instagram-able and samsa filled with a savory meat/onion mixture served with a tomato based sauce. Get one per person because you will not want to share. We ordered fried mini dumplings which are filled with meat and also served with same tomato based sauce that came with the samsa. They were delicious but afterwards I saw that you can get them steamed in a broth, I told myself I have to get that next time. The slow-cooked, tender oxtail was served over the best crispy, fat-fried potatoes I've ever had. The chohobli (chicken stew) was fall off the bone into a delicious tomato-based stew. We ordered the rice to sop up the delicious stew. The tea really helped to cut the richness of all the delicious food. I have not shut up about this place since we had this meal. I will rave about it to just about anyone that will listen in hopes that they will come with me next time so we can order more dishes to share.

Friendly service, the other table there on a Tuesday night were from that region, speaking in native tongue. Speaking of tongue, that is on the menu as well. We started with pickled veggies, cucumbers, red cabbage and green tomatoes- very tasty! The crispy potatoes were amazing, perhaps fried in beef fat? So Lucious, I doubt it was olive oil. The lamb loin kebab was tender and tasty, and at $10.99 a bargain! The shrimp kabab was just as affordable, yet I though I though they were a bit overdone. Worth a visit - help keep authentic restaurants in business.

I spent every summer in this town, growing up, and I never discovered this restaurant until a precious friend brought me here a few years ago. It's a dated, though efficient and charming, cafe. Firstly, if you plan on having lunch here on a Monday, make sure you are able to finish by 2:45 since they close by 3pm. All other days, they are open past 8pm. We started with the sweet potato soup despite the fact that the reviews for the lentil soup here are the highest. The turmeric and coconut milk make this soup delightful. The herbs made it so fresh and there was just the right amount of sweetness and gentle heat. Parsley really adds to this recipe and I'm not usually a fan of parsley. The pitas are soft and light. Love them. We needed to order more. I love love love the hummus, here. It is nothing short of divine. The flavors are fabulous and deeply complex. You can really taste the tahini. The olive oil is mild and delicious. I exclaimed, "the hummus was the best ever." And then 5 minutes later, I read a review by Yelper James H. where he says it's the best ever and, "... this hummus at Cedars of Lebanon might have ruined all other hummus for me forever." While I've had similar swooning feelings at the Lebanese Taverna in Tyson's Corner, this hummus is at least a top contender if not the metro DC area's hummus winner. The cucumber mint yogurt salad is nice, cold and refreshing. You can really taste the mint. I would order this yogurt salad with every meal. The falafel pizza is unusual and fresh. Straight away-- you can taste the tahini, parsley and couscous. The dough is grainy and natural. And there are radishes on this falafel pizza: not overpowering. For the $9.95 pricepoint, this dish is a true labor of love. To prep all of these vegetables, even with food processors, must take time. How novel of a dish! Put the yogurt salad on this pizza. You will thank me. And I only did it because I was watching someone else slather it on. There were at least 12 desserts on the menu. Meow. If we weren't so full, we certainly would love to taste a few of these. As well as the Turkish coffee, with an authentic ceramic and metal carafé presentation.

Pretty easy, breezy no-frills restaurant…read more We stopped by Cedars of Lebanon, because it was one of the few places that had outdoor seating and was not full. The restaurant has a small outdoor dining area with three four-seater tables, which was find for our two dogs. The experience overall was pretty low key, which necessarily is not a bad thing. Although there is waiter/waitress service, you will have to order your food at the cashier's counter. Actually, maybe that's only a thing if you are dining outside. The menu has a nice mix of Middle Eastern dishes. I went with a beef (or maybe it was lamb) kabob plate. The portions were fine and my meal was pretty good. It was not out of this world amazing, but it got the job done. I thought that the prices were pretty good for the area and the amount of food received. Although the food was fine, I do not think that I would go out of my way (e.g., driving more than 30 minutes) to dine here. Just be aware that the restaurant does not serve alcoholic beverages.
