Steak quesadillas

We love this place because it's fresh and local. The food is very delicious and freshly prepared. The service is great and staff is pleasant and accommodating. The birria tacos and consome are great in flavor, the birria pizza is 5 out of 10 in my opinion - it was very dry, but flavors were good otherwise. I would definitely recommend this place for fresh Mexican food and casual but great ambience.

Burrito Veggie

I recently stopped back into La Gula Mexicana after not visiting for a while, and I'm happy to say it's just as good as I remembered. This used to be one of my regular go-to spots, especially when I was craving a fresh veggie burrito, and this visit reminded me exactly why I loved it. I ordered my usual veggie burrito with extra cilantro, guacamole, white onions, and a little corn, and it was absolutely delicious. Every bite was fresh, flavorful, and packed with quality ingredients. One thing I've always appreciated about this restaurant is the consistency. The ingredients are always fresh, the portions are generous, and you can tell everything is prepared with care. The customer service was just as memorable as the food. The staff was kind, courteous, and welcoming, making me feel like a valued customer from the moment I walked in. It's always nice when you return to a favorite restaurant after some time away and discover that the quality hasn't changed. This visit definitely reminded me why La Gula Mexicana became one of my favorite local spots, and I'll be adding it back into my regular rotation. Highlights: * Fresh, flavorful veggie burrito * High-quality, fresh ingredients * Delicious additions of cilantro, guacamole, white onions, and corn * Friendly and courteous staff * Consistently great food and service * One of my favorite local Mexican restaurants

Good food, at affordable prices. We got nachos and Hawaiian pizza. Good service, and Mexican ambiance.

The tacos were quite flavorful and reasonable priced! The staff was very polite and made suggestions based on what I wanted. It had a good vibe with great music playing! Highly recommend!

The location is well maintained. Upon entering there is a bar to the right. There is a general seating area, and even outside seating. I made way to the counter to place an order. I asked for recommendations for the different taco options. I went with one Ribeye and one Al Pastor, to go. I will be returning to dine at the location. Both the Ribeye and Al Pastor meats were well prepared and seasoned. The portion size was generous. Several condiments were included. The hot sauce is very hot by the way. I used a little of that and mostly the mild sauce. Overall I am very happy with the food.

This is a great local Mexican spot in Germantown. I highly recommend if you're looking for authentic Mexican food. When I went we sat at the bar and the bartender was really nice and attentive. If you sit at a regular table you order at the counter and the give you a number and then bring you the food. We had ordered the chip trio dip and wow the chips came out HOT and ready to eat, they were crunchy and sooo good! the dips were really good too! I shared the tacos chicken dorados witch were also crunchy and delicious. And I also shared some tacos birria with consume! This was the bite of the night! It was loaded with meat and hot with cheese and it comes with onions and cilantro on the side. Everything was very filling! For drinks I got the hibiscus cocktail. This was so good and light! And they candy the hibiscus for garnish! Highly recommend this place

the chefs know what they're doing. the birrias are so good and addictive. at the register however, they can be slow and unorganized. someone gave me someone else's order after reading my receipt on the table. sometimes it takes 5 minutes, other times it takes a while to get my order. i understand restaurants can get busy, but the quickest my order was done was the busiest i've seen the restaurant, whereas when there's not too many people it can take a while. also they give you a number to bring to your table and i've had 2 servers forget to take it lol the restaurant has an outside section which i like. i wish the food was bad because then i would just never come here, but the food is so good that even though the service is not the best i still like eating here from time to time

Wow this place is sooo good! I went here with a friend for dinner and we fell in love with the tacos. I ordered 3 tacos: Birria, fried fish (pescado frito), and beef rib (suadero). Everything was super flavorful. The fish taco was fried to perfection. The beef was tender. The Birria was my favorite! I also like the portion of the tacos. They did not skimp out on the meat. Also highly recommend getting the esquites for a side and horchata for a drink. I like how they have both indoor and outdoor seating. I will definitely come here for Happy Hour next time.

Tuesday 2/4/25 This is an updated review as it's been nearly one and a half years since my last visit. I got a mix of new items and items I enjoyed last time to get a better feel for the restaurant experience. I spent $43.71 through online ordering from Toast and got the birria pizza $17, frachos $10, plantain hush puppies $6.75, the taco: pescado frito (fried fish) $3.75, and the taco: el camaron (shrimp) $3.75. - This was my first time experiencing a birria pizza, and it wasn't quite as good as the birria taco with consome experience I had previously had. It was solid and different from what I had expected. When I first came across Birria pizzas online, I would best describe it as 2 tortillas with the ingredients layered, but this one was more of a straight-up pizza, AND not having any consome with it was a missed opportunity. - The frachos were alright, and luckily you get a lot of food for the price you pay. The fries themselves are pretty weak as they weren't seasoned or crispy. - The plantain hush puppies were a huge favorite of mine last visit and they're still good as usual. - The fried fish and shrimp tacos were solid, but the corn tortillas hindered the experience (I prefer flour tortillas). Overall, the spot is good but just not as good as I remembered, and with that being said, I'd still be open to a return.

As soon as you come in La Gula you're greeted with smiles, the play list is the Best!! I ordered the chicken flauta made to perfection, super fresh and delicious. The place has lots of seating, bring the family and enjoy the menu. I can't wait to come back and taste the rest of the menu. This place also has great drinks!! Come check them out!

Great service! Food was solid. Loved the tajin rim on the margarita. The Al pastor pizza was incredible!

One of the Best Value Mexican Restaurants in Town! This place has quickly become one of my favorite spots in town. It has a chill, laid-back vibe that makes it perfect for both casual dinners and catching up with friends. The food is consistently delicious, the service is always friendly, and the cocktails? Amazing -- and all around $10! It's rare to find a place that delivers great taste, atmosphere, and unbeatable value all in one. Highly recommend if you're craving Mexican food without breaking the bank!

I enjoyed my time here. It had an industrial vibe to it, but it turned out to be a good solid place with a great staff. Everyone here is very nice. You order at the counter and you get a letter and they bring the food to you when it is ready. They bring it immediately because most of the dishes are fried or quickly made to order and it is hot. The plantain appetizer was still steaming hot for like 20 minutes after they set it on the table. Chips and guacamole arrived almost instantly and the pizza came later. For $17, we thought the pizza was worth it. They did not skimp on the ingredients as it was top heavy. I recommend having a fork ready to hold the pizza (one hand on the crust and the fork to hold the center). Since it is heavy, the toppings can just slide off. After the meal, I felt like I had some street tacos. It felt good in this cold climate. We typically go to a food truck nearby but we wanted to try something different and the food truck was way too cold to be waiting outdoors for our order. This is our nearby option for indoor tacos.

Tonight we tried their dinner menu and we had 4 different sandwiches. We had the meatball sub, chicken parmesan, caparese and the southern chicken sandwich. All of it was delicious. Unfortunately, when I received my food and took a bite, a hot, completely runny egg came oozing out of the sandwich and all over me, completely ruining my shirt and pants. I was understandably upset. What made the situation even worse was that multiple waitresses watched it happen and continued working without offering me a napkin, towel, or anything to help clean myself up. I was literally standing there with egg yolk running down my shirt and pants because my order was prepared incorrectly. Eventually, my husband and I had to flag someone down--we weren't even sure if he was a server or the manager. He came over and said he would comp the meal. I explained that we were there for a soccer tournament and that I would now have to go out and purchase an entirely new outfit for the rest of the day because of their mistake. We then sat there for 20 minutes, watching employees walk past us repeatedly without checking on us. I finally went to the register and expressed how upset I was. The gentleman there said he would charge us for my husband's and son's meals and comp mine. Of course, my meal was being comped--it was sent back because it was prepared incorrectly in the first place. We then waited another 20 minutes without a bill. Again, employees continued walking past us and completely ignored us. This restaurant is tiny--practically the size of a closet--so I honestly don't understand how we could be overlooked for that long. At that point, I told my husband, "Let's just get up and leave. I guarantee THAT will get someone's attention." Sure enough, the second we walked out the door, the big guy came running after us, yelling at my husband and me. I explained how long we had been sitting there, how rude and dismissive the service was, and how much of our time had been wasted. Apparently, walking out the door was the only way to finally get someone's attention. Mistakes happen. Eggs can be cooked incorrectly. What matters is how you treat your customers when something goes wrong. In this case, the customer service was absolutely unacceptable from start to finish. We are in town for a soccer tournament and had better things to do than spend nearly an hour sitting around being ignored after having our clothing ruined by an improperly prepared meal. Spare yourself the trip. The customer service here was HORRIBLE. BTW my outfit cost more than a comped meal!!!! And a hour of wasted time waiting for our bill!!! THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE ZERO STARS if that were an option.

La Poteria was the perfect midpoint to grab our morning caffeine fix and a bite to eat before we hit the Harpers Ferry hiking trails. The cafe was beautifully decorated with marble tables, a ton of plants, and plenty of couches and cozy armchairs. There was a ton of natural light from the giant windows, but they also had a number of aesthetic hanging lights, some of which were exposed bulbs and others of which were in little wicker baskets. As far as the food and drink goes, I loved their latte. The coffee was rich and not overly acidic, and it was strong enough that you could still appreciate the chocolatey, nutty undertones under the generous helping of steamed milk and foam. I also loved the little heart sprinkle they added in the center of the mug -- such a cute final touch! My friend and I also split two of their savory items, the cheese arepa and spinach and feta empanada. The empanada was a little different than what I was used to, as it was super flaky and buttery, with an almost croissant or puff pastry-like dough. It was delicious and the savory feta went wonderfully with the spinach and the slightly peppery mayo-based sauce they served it with. The arepa was also lovely, with a generous helping of gooey melted cheese on top of the slightly chewy, slightly sweet corn-based flatbread.
