I ordered my food to-go. The vegetable appetizers were yummy and delightful but the entrees were meh. What I had: - Torshi (pickled vegetables): Loved it! They aren't as sour as Japanese pickled vegetables. It's more like a spiced tartness that was unique and enjoyable. The okra was my favorite! - Mediterranean Beets w/ Feta: Super yummy! I recommend ordering it with the feta, because it adds a nice layer and balance to each bite. - Ghormeh Sabzi (herbs & beef stew): The herb stew was oily and too bland earthy for me. There wasn't any other flavor under the earthy herbs! Also, the beef was dry and, it tasted like a boring pot roast. - Akbar Joojeh (Cornish hen & rice): The hen's skin was tasty and flavorful, but the meat itself was bland and dry (no thanks). There wasn't enough pomegranate. - Pita Bread: This is thin, tough, dry, and tastes "fresh" off the grocery store shelf it was shipped to. I'm only interested in in-house made pita, so I wouldn't order this again. - Rice: The rice was also very bland and had no fragrance. I disappointing filler for the meal. Overall, tasty vegetables apps but dry, boring meat-entrees. I probably wouldn't come here again unless I became a vegetarian. read more

Love this place! I can't even say how grateful that they are here. My mother is 88 years old, Iranian and really can no longer cook our traditional dishes. Her appetite has decreased significantly this past year and I've been worried about how to get her to eat. Well.. Caspian Grill to the rescue. Her eyes light up when I get takeout from them (it's now on our weekly scheduled) and it's a joy to watch her eat with gusto. Their food is as authentic as it gets, the flavors, use of spices and herbs are just exquisite. Their portions are enormous so two of us eat one portion and are very full. I'm now making a habit of ordering several meals and having them for days on end. I love their rice with barberries (zereshk polo), rice with dill (baghali polo), fesenjan, their meat is always juicy, flavorful and well seasoned. Nothing is overly salted so I feel safe having my mom eat it. Their shirazi salad is delightful! I am not a lamb person but I used to go pre-covid with a friend from work and he would ALWAYS order the lamb shank and practically drool at the mention of it :-) Just top notch all around and I'm so grateful we have this fabulous taste of home here in Austin! read more

My god is this food good. this was my first time trying Persian/Iranian food and I look forward to having much more. I came is wanting the walnut and pomegranate stew but it was so popular it was sold out. The server recommended the eggplant and beef stew instead and it was fantastic. Very flavorful and savory. The service was great and I believe the owner visited our table to check on us. He was very friendly and nice (as was our server). I saw signage indicating they are getting their liquor license soon and can't wait. Look forward to many more visits here! read more

A lovely place. This is the second Persian restaurant I've been to - the other was in Houston, much larger and also more expensive. Find myself in Austin for a conference, out near Research Blvd. Been heading downtown when I can this week, but after a long day, not up for the drive/cab ride. I decide to stay local tonight, realizing the suburban options are of course limited. So, as soon as I see 5 stars, "Persian" and "Lamb" on Yelp, and just 3 miles from me - no brainer! I called the restaurant to see if they have a bar. I travel a lot for work, and generally never eat at a table alone. Hate to hog up a table for one. The nice guy who answered assured me that while they didn't have a bar for me to sit at, that he would make sure he stopped by to chat with me at my table. He was so nice, so I decided to go anyway, breaking my own little rule. I sit down, and the owner comes over, drinking his own glass of wine. Good sign. I politely looked at the menu, but had decided before I left my hotel room what I was ordering. I order house red wine and the Lamb Shank. The owner comes over with a full glass of wine for me. Score. This is clearly not one of those places where they pre-mark the glasses so you only get a half pour. Good start to this dinner. As promised, he realizes I am the "single girl" who called ahead, and chats it up with me. They have only been open a few months, but business is good. I quickly realize I walked in about 15 minutes before closing. And I ordered Lamb Shank, which is not a quick dish to prepare. So while I am sure at that point the kitchen was cursing me, the owner is so nice. Group of IT guys coming off a long day at the office, sitting one table over are also late comers. I later hear him say to them (when they ask if they are keeping his staff there late) that they are happy to stay until the last customer leaves happy. And this is not a line, he means it. So my Lamb arrives. Dilled rice, which sounded just ok on the menu, as I am not a huge dill fan, smells amazing. I seriously want to stick my face directly into my plate. But I figure I may scare the IT guys at the next table, so I restrain myself. I picked up the bone, just to look at the lamb, and the meat pretty much falls off the bone. I didn't need a knife or fork. If I were alone, I would have been gnawing at the bone. What I loved most was the unpretentious manner in which the food was served. Rice, salad and lamb that was not decorated with fancy sauces drizzled decoratively on the plate. The (delicious) sauce came in a small ramekin, which I also had to restrain myself from licking at the table. I dipped the lamb in it, and poured some over the rice, as the owner recommended. When it came to eat the last bite of lamb, I was seriously sad. I looked at it for a while, knowing it was all going to end after this... The owner came over a few times to check on me, but was not hovering. We talked a bit about how I found the place, about Yelp, Austin, Philadelphia. This guy is clearly proud of his restaurant, as he should be. When I come back to Austin, I will seriously skip a night on 6th Street to have that Lamb again! read more

had this one bookmarked for a while, and finally had opportunity to take family the other evening. We had the eggplant appetizer and all shared two orders of kabobs (one chicken and one ground beef). Everything was outstanding, and we all loved our meal (especially the kids... surprisingly). Wife and I agreed it was best Persian food we've ever had. The saffron rice was perfectly seasoned and cooked, and generously portioned. 3 of us preferred the beef, and one the chicken. both were delicious though. The proprietor was extremely warm and welcoming, and made time to come talk with us several times, and personally tend to our every need. We were told this place gets really busy later in evening. we got there around 5:45 on a Saturday, and immediately got a table. Even if you're not the adventurous type when it comes to food, I cannot imagine anyone who would not really enjoy the kabob dishes at this restaurant. Highest of recommendations!! read more

Absolutely loved the appetizer - Mirza Ghasemi (Roasted Eggplant & Herbs). Unlike Baba Ghanouj, this was not pureed, but nicely cooked eggplant with a number of different herbs and veggies. The hot tea was out of this world (cardamom infused). We had two stews, the chicken, pomegranate and walnut, which I liked, but was quite sweet (unusual in an entree) and the beef and herb stew, which was basic and well prepared. We tried the Persian Ice Cream - it featured rosewater, and had a cream cooked into the center (hard to visualize), and it took us a while to get into it, but we managed to make it all disappear with no problems! read more

Adding another 5-star review to the batch. I walked in knowing exactly what I wanted: the Fesenjan. My fiancé got the Akbar Joojeh. Both were absolutely delicious! The sauces that came with the stew and the Cornish hens were tangy and sweet (the Fesenjan was a little sweeter), but not overly so. I also got some iced tea, which was wonderfully refreshing - it was like iced chai. And I decided on some ice cream for dessert as well. Very, very cold, but tasty. It wasn't my favorite ice cream in the world, but it went well with the meal. Also, we went in during non-peak lunch hours, so it was relatively quiet. The lighting is a little dim, but nice. And the staff (I think it was the owner who waited on us? But I'm not sure) was REALLY nice, and took good care of us. Five stars for service as well! read more

Everything I've eaten here has been superb. The Turkish coffee is excellent and you shouldn't miss the eggplant appetizer. All of the kebabs are delicious, and I look forward to trying the desserts, although I've yet to get through a meal and have room for them. I was heading north Austin for a business one day and decided to have Persian food for lunch. Since I like to try new restaurants, I decided to have my lunch at Caspian Grill which I've heard from a friend. I guess I was the first customer that day, and in fact I did not expect to see many people because the restaurant just opened. But I was wrong, after a bit, it was quite full. I ordered chicken kabab. Chicken was tender and tasty (way better than my own chicken kabab), rice was fluffy and not hard which I like. I enjoyed the food very much and will definitely go again to try other dishes. The one thing that looks kind of wired to me is that this restaurant is closed on Sundays! If you plan to try this nicely decorated place soon, don't expect to be served by the most professional waiters, they are nice and very friendly but need to gain experience. Went in for lunch Saturday. Second time in. Everything was as delicious as the first time. This time I had the Gyro Wrap plate and my husband had the Hamburger with fries added. Both dishes were large servings. There's no way to leave hungry from here. My Gyro was very flavorful and I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes them. My husband absolutely loved his 'burger. Said it tasted like he remembers 'burgers tasting in the '50s and '60s. As before, the service was fast and extremely friendly. I'm Persian and I know what the real Iranian food is. This restaurant is totally AUTHENTIC. Every item on their menu is a common food in Iran and this restaurant does an excellent job preparing them. I have recommended Caspian to my other Iranian friends and they loved it as well. If you're looking for a Persian restaurant in Austin, Caspian is the best place to go (there are 2 others which I personally don't recommend). I personally know the owners. They previously served Persian food in other locations. They are very nice people and I believe they will keep their business as great as it is now. I had Kabab and Akbar Juje (Cornish hen). Chose this restaurant for a birthday dinner and was not disappointed. The appetizers were unique and offered a blast of flavor. The entrees were extremely large portions and exquisitely seasoned as well. Lastly the handcrafted dessert was the kicker to the beginning of a great night. This is the best vegetarian Persian food I have ever tried. I had previously been disappointed with vegetarian options at other Persian restaurants, but I decided to try this one because of the high Yelp ratings. We ordered the Veg Biriyani and the Veg stew. Both meals were full flavored and tasty. Even my picky wife enjoyed it thoroughly! The waiter was soft-spoken, but service was excellent. The decor is nice but casual. One thing I would do slightly different next time is to order the food with a little extra heat (spice)... and I hope there will be a next time soon! read more
