Probably the best meal I've ever had was the seafood casserole which is like a more soupy and flavorful seafood paella that's made to order for 2 but could feed 2-4 and so was able to get it without octopus but with shrimp, fresh catch of day grouper, shrimp and scallop. We are staying at Ritz for a week so we decided to try Casitas on the day we arrived. Hands down one of the most outstanding food and customer service! And not to mention the beautiful ambiance. I would suggest reserving the casitas for an extra $100. Shout out to our wait staffs, Marcos & David who were super attentive and made our dining experience enjoyable. We lucked out because they have special bbq set menu for 2. We decided to give it a try because the smell from the grill was intoxicating. The set menu includes choice of salad, cheesy bread, platter of bbq (you have 4 options to choose from), and a couple of desserts. Salad - we went with the tomato and avocado salad. It was so bright in flavor with nice firm and juicy tomato slices. Cheesy bread - it was so good, my 1.5yo devoured 2 pieces. BBQ platter - we went with the lobster, salmon, filet, and ribs combo. Omg....everything was delicious and cooked perfectly! They also serve the platter with 4 different condiments. It also came with steamed potatoes and grilled corn. Desserts - tres leche cake which was topped with thinly sliced papaya. It was soft and melt in your mouth goodness. The brownie was very rich and indulgent. We absolutely LOVED our experience at Casitas. We reserved a private casita on the beach as we were celebrating an anniversary and a birthday. I appreciated that the restaurant made it very clear that there was an additional fee ($100 USD) for booking the private casita. Wine, specifically, was expensive; 1 bottle was $100 USD and that was one of the cheapest we saw on the wine list. We dined at 2 other restaurants in the Hotel Zone and both bottles were only around $60 but that was the only real shock. We did not order any appetizers but were given an amuse bouche to start which was a like a small potato with shrimp salad - very delicious! We all ordered entrees - two pastas (rigatoni; one with frutti di mare and one without), one "catch of the day" which was grouper, one chicken maya and one shrimp and scallops. We ordered two sides - cheddar mashed potatoes and French fries to share. Our entrees came out with rolls and a garlic spread, which was delicious. All entrees were wonderful! Some were a little more plentiful (pasta, fish) than others (chicken, shrimp/scallops) but all were reasonably priced and very tasty... we had no leftovers! For dessert, we were brought 2 complementary desserts for the special occasions, which we were not expecting but appreciated! We also ordered the chocolate churros and they were AMAZING. Our bill was around $450 (without tip) for the alcohol (bottle of wine and one beer), a soda, countless bottles of water (it was so hot), five entrees and one dessert plus the setup fee for the rental. The view of the ocean as the sun set was just incredible. My husband and I sat in a bungalow and enjoyed a beautiful romantic dinner during our stay at the Ritz Carlton. Our server was wonderful! I am so sorry, I cannot remember his name. I ordered the fish, it was tasty and a little unique with a tomato sauce. My husband ordered the rib eye, and he liked it as well. The food was tasty, but not incredible. Casitas is the restaurant that The Caribe Bar & Grill turns into in the evening. When staying at the Ritz Carlton, it shows as 2 places but it's the same location with different menus. In the evening, you can rent a cabana for around $100 to have a very romantic dinner directly on the beach in front of the hotel. We chose to just dine on the outdoor terrace. The reason for only 4 stars was upon arrival (after being in contact with the hotel prior to our visit), the hostess asked about allergies. We told them we needed gluten free options for my 22 year old daughter. She made a note and we were seated. When taking our order, I inquired about gf options and the first and only thing offered was a salad. Very disappointing! After further inquiries and discussion, we were able to get more options. They even brought out gf bread with a separate dipping oil. We also ordered gf sweet potato fries and without asking, the server told us they would be fried in its own oil to avoid cross contamination. Yes, they absolutey turned the evening around but Marriott makes it seem like they will happily do accommodations over email, etc and when you actually get on property, it's a bit of work to find someone who can actually help you. If you are within a one mile radius of Cancun you MUST partake in this dining experience. From arrival to departure I was so impressed. This Ritz Carlton is beautiful- the exterior, the lobby, and the walk to the ocean front dining space was all Instagram worthy. Our servers were amazing- they walked us down to the table which was decorated with lights and drapery, and gave us a perfect view and sound of the ocean. No better place to enjoy a mea! There is a pathway to and around the table so no worries about the sand. The food and it's presentation was immaculate. We started with bread service (so good and cheesy!) oysters and lobster bisque. So decadent and rich, the presentation of the bisque came with plated lobster chunks with the bisque poured around it. My friends and I had the scallops, rigatoni, and prime rib. This is the beach restaurant at the Ritz in Cancun. Step by step review: - When you arrive, if you drive, valet your car. There is no fee, except what you tip the parking lot dude, and they take care not to scratch your ride as they don't want the trouble themselves of you complaining. - Once you go in, Casitas is all the way through the property at the beach part of the resort. If you show up early, you'll see them setting up, but they won't seat you til pretty much 10mins before at the earliest so go play on the beach. Added bonus are the blue beach chairs with covers that you can chill on. - Once your hut, I mean casita, is ready, you'll be seated outside. They go all out in making the setting super nice, so you do get what you pay for here (remember the casita is extra and the prices change so check and be clear on this). - Service is outstanding as there are probably 2-3 staff for every hut. I went on Feb 13, 2019 right before V-day and it wasn't too busy so they are at your beck and call. Remember to tip of course. - I want to add an additional shout out to the fact that my 4 yr old got cold/tired (it was our second day) and so the staff actually dragged up a beach chair to our hut, and gave us like 5 beach towels to use as blankets so she could lay and look up at the stars. That was a awesome, unasked for, touch. Not many resorts in Cancun have that for thought without charging you for it. Good work guys! - As for the menu and food; The menu changes so what I saw on the website wasn't what I was handed. That said, I requested the seafood tower you see in every picture on the review and they still made it for me. Yes it was good. Yes the food is a bit pricey, but you are at the Ritz and not the taco joint in the city so don't complain. The rest of the food was just as good so explore the menu as well. My only recommendation would be to have more small platters, but that's up to the kitchen. - Because I have small children, we didn't stay past 8pm, but I'm sure you can stay the entire time, eat, drink, and enjoy the stars on the beach if you have a clear night! *The only reason I'm giving this 4/5 stars is because it misses that last star. The execution is spot on, service is 5/5, but it's not the best of the best in the world and by that measure it cannot be 5/5 overall. Keep in mind, I have eaten many many farm to tables around the world, 10+ course meals such as Per Se, et al, so my standards are rather high. We've all heard that old "see food" diet joke and it literally came true for OIivia and me because we saw a Casitas Seafood Tower (MXN$1,585) being delivered to another table and instantly said ... "we see that and we want that!" Before the tower of awesomeness arrived, Olivia got a Mystic Caribbean Cocktail (MXN$290) with Captain Morgan Rum and Grand Marnier while I moved off the Mexican vacation drinks for a night and went with Bombay Sapphire Gin and Tonic (MXN$290). Anyway, back to the Seafood Tower with King Crab, Oysters, Caribbean Lobster, Citrus Shrimp, Tuna Tartar, and Acapulco Seafood Cocktail. It's served in a fresh coconut and ALL six seafood selections were fresh and delish. If you're gonna switch to a Seafood Diet, this tower is an amazing start. We also split a Local Catch Tikin Xic Fish (MXN$455) which was prepared "Yucatan style." I have no idea what that means, but I'm gonna guess it means glazed with yumminess and spices. Even before the fish arrived, we got a Local Lobster Bisque (MXN$265) that's melded at the table and quickly melted my hunger. It's a bit thick, but, oh so, rich ... and the lobster was marvelous. As for dining experiences, Casitas offers two options: Dining on the deck near the bar or at a private "casita" on the beach. Something I won't be able to find and experience here in San Francisco Bay Area. We came on time and we were greeted by Moses..he was our server. I must say, Moses made our experience amazing! Such a great person with great customer service! We felt like royalty! I will never forget this experience a long with my GF. It was one of our best highlights being in Cancun! Price won't be cheap, but it's worth every penny for me to make my GFs surprise birthday dinner wonderful. Casita rental is about $120 US dollars. Food was amazing I loved the sea food platter with crab legs, fresh oysters, and lobster tail. We also ordered the lobster bisque and Cesar Salad. It was so delicious! This review is very overdue. I went to Puerto Morelos with a friend for the Thanksgiving 2020 week and after a lot of online search a head of time realized that this was named one of the #1 places to eat in Cancun. Puerto Morelos is about 20 minutes outside of Cancun. So I contacted Casitas to make reservations and spoke to Marisol Reyes via email. At first she thought I was a Ritz guest so reservations were made however when she discovered that I was not, she stated that she would have to leave "slots" open for Ritz guest in case they want to dine at Casitas on Thanksgiving. Marisol told me to keep checking back to see if no one Ritz guest booked then my friend and I can dine there for TDay. So I did that for a week straight (in my broken Spanish) and we got reservations! WE were disappointed to find out that on TDay they had a prefix westernized Thanksgiving menu. It was all Thanksgiving food and it was TERRIBLE. The lightening in our tent was hospital-light bright (not the romantic setting we were expecting) and the staff was okay (nothing too out of this world amazing). I really think Casitas should not have a thanksgiving pre fix menu OR at least give guests the option to order from the regular menu. Marisol was amazing with helping us get in at this place but we were so disappointed by the ambiance, the menu and the service. There are wayyyy better places to dine in Cancun. Ambiance: My girls and I were tired from traveling all day and did not want to leave the hotel. We went down to Casitas where we were waited on by such nice server (sorry his name slipped me). It was a beautiful clear January night and the breeze was tropical and the waves soothing. The ambiance was perfect, absolutely beautiful views of the beach with a saxophonist! *Why are you still reading...go to Casitas!* Food: We started with guac and chips which came with delicious plantain chips we couldn't get enough of. We then ordered the lobster bisque which was hot and creamy, perfect against the night breeze. My entree was a nice small/medium size portion of baked chicken with a warm roasted tomato half topped with what i believe was ovalini mozzarella. To top it off, we had company during dinner in the form of the 2 most adorable kittens. It took a while for our drinks to get to us, my husband finished his steak before my lobster even got out, and the lobster was not worth the wait. I'd been told that this restaurant was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'd cynically thought that nothing more than ad copy. I was wrong. Casitas consists of, essentially, three main factors: food (including drinks), service, ambiance. Let's start with ambiance. The idea of having your own, private cabana right on the beach, with waves splashing nearby is exactly as amazing as you think it is. Simply nothing beats that. Second, the service. I'm very sorry to report that I don't remember our waiter's name, but he was fantastic. He was very gracious, gave plenty of advice, and, best of all, was very friendly and patient with my drunk-Spanish. Finally, the food. Those reading should know that I am a bit of a food snob. I eschew chain restaurants, seek unique flavors and experiences, and all kinds of other nauseatingly elitist silliness. I mention this because despite (or perhaps because of) my snobishness, I only bump into a small number of restaurants that truly impress me. And it's not a question of price. The bigger the bill very rarely equals the better the experience. All that said, I can honestly say, without hyperbole, that Casitas was easily one of the top-10 meals I've ever had. I was shocked once I found out that my boyfriend had reserved one of their private casitas out on the beach to celebrate my birthday. Our reservation was at 7pm, but they were able to accommodate our early arrival around 6:45pm, which was perfect because that was just when the sun was starting to set. Our table was beautifully lit with lights, decorated with red rose petals, and we had the most gorgeous view of the beach. For anyone that's seen "The Bachelor" or "The Bachelorette" I felt like I was in one of those super romantic one-on-one dinners. The service was also impeccable. From beginning to end, our waiter was friendly, attentive and resourceful. I feel terrible for not remembering his name but he kindly offered to take pictures of us as soon as he noticed me reaching for my phone. His menu suggestions were helpful and informative as he answered all of our questions. For starters, we ordered the Baja California tuna tiradito and the Poblano pepper soup. Each slice of fresh tuna had the right amount of sauce and tasted delicious with the crunch of the sliced cucumber and plantain chips. The Serrano pepper added a nice, fiery kick to each bite but only eat it if you can handle some heat! The soup was also delicious - not too heavy, not too creamy. We did however ask for some ground pepper to be sprinkled on top for added taste. For the main course, we both decided to treat ourselves to the Surf n Turf [lobster & filet mignon for me, lobster & ribeye for him]. My filet was cooked to perfection! Soo incredibly tender. We were both unexpectedly impressed with our whole grilled onion on the side - each translucent layer was packed with so much flavor that I felt like I was eating French onion soup! Each bite was paired with a sip of our delicious white wine [Wente Chardonnay]. Throughout our dinner, we were accompanied by the performance of a live saxophonist that was playing in the outdoor area behind the casitas. I briefly mentioned to the waiter towards the beginning of our meal about how beautifully the saxophonist was playing. Little did I know that our waiter would take that comment and actually have the saxophonist come down after dinner to our casita and play "happy birthday"! I was honestly so overwhelmed with emotion. They also gave a chocolaty birthday dessert that was decadent and pleasantly not too sweet. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect night. read more

Most of my culinary experiences in Cancun were utter disappointments. Surprisingly enough to say, the locations recommended by the locals were not even remotely close to what I had in the United States. After eating at many of the recommended spots in the Cancun hotel district area, I came to the conclusion that I would never be satisfied with any restaurant. Casitas was an exception to this rule. Casitas is located in the Ritz Carlton and it's pretty much a one-of-a-kind dining experience on the beachfront area in Cancun. As noted in my pictures, the highlight is the tent-like dining area on the beach. Make no mistake, for this fantastic experience you'll pay a steep price. You'll be charged $125 for renting the tent and that excludes anything you order. For this payment, you are welcome to stay from open, when you can view the sunset, until the restaurant closes. The view is breathtaking, there is a gentle breeze, and the temperature is moderate because of its location. As for the food, it was not an earth-shattering experience and for once in my life I think I was actually swayed by the overall experience than the food itself (which I place primary importance). I had a few appetizers, a decent Spanish wine I could not remember (and that would not break the bank), and a medium rare steak. Everything was flawlessly executed. The steak that I had was not overburnt on any single area, the meat was a perfect medium-rare all throughout (even at the edges) and there was complete consistency in the seasoning throughout all parts of the steak. I can rarely, if ever remember a time when the execution was this perfect for a steak. That being said, there was nothing special about it that would conjure magical memories about the food. I think that best sums up all the dishes that I tried here at Casitas: flawless execution, great quality, average in terms of novelty and specialty. The total bill was over $500 for 2 (as most people report on their dining experience here). Is it worth it? Don't think about the food. Look at the pictures. If you think it's worth being a part of that then you know the answer. By no means should anyone be discouraged from going because of the food. Casitas is a one of kind experience that anyone who goes to Cancun should consider. After all, I'd rather spend money on a meal that gives me a fantastic experience over having multiple mediocre meals at cheaper prices. Before I finish this review, I want to give one word of advice. The weather forecast for Cancun is crazy and the hurricane season is blown out of proportion because it makes it seem like it rains every day. In reality, a very small region of Cancun rains and only for about 15min to 1hour. Be cognizant of the weather, check frequently, but don't panic about the rain ruining your dining experience. It's highly unlikely to happen given the weather patterns in Cancun. read more
