The best that I can figure, Cascade Winery is the only true wine tasting room in Grand Rapids. We visited this diamond in the rough last week. Being from SW Michigan where we can get to about 50 wineries in less than 40 minutes, I wasn't expecting Cascade Winery to be in an industrial type complex. But I was pleasantly surprised that the tasting room was pretty nice and quite large. They have lots of seating in the tasting room and another room for private events. Our pourer was the son of the owner. He was very knowledgeable and fun to speak with. We tried all the reds, a few whites, and a specialty wine. They were all very good. Cascade Winery doesn't grow their own grapes. A good portion come from Michigan and others come from California. The winery is also known as the Jaden James Brewery. We did not taste any of their beers or their mead. We came home with three bottles - Raspberry Chocolate Silk, Symphony Blush, and a Cabernet Sauvignon. Went there last night for a wine tasting party. They supplied 6 tickets and a nice tray of crackers and cheese. This was a great way to sample their amazing selection! I'm gluten free, so the beers were a no-go, but I did enjoy a nice selection of wine (the red blend was my favorite) and hard ciders (a mix of raspberry and strawberry was nice and mellow, but the blueberry hard cider was great as well). We also were able to try the jalapeño wine. Not what I was expecting, but a great experience and a new taste! The atmosphere here is nice and down to earth. I felt very comfortable and the people behind the counter are really friendly, and eager to help. I'll come back here for some relaxing time to enjoy a nice glass of wine or cider. read more

This place is pretty nice honestly. Based on reviews, I was expecting to be really disappointed but I wasn't. The staff was very nice and helpful. They made suggestions and conversed to find out what you might be into. The cheese and crackers were cheap. I've seen the crackers before at Sams club. The cheese was grocery store blocks. I was unimpressed which is the reason for the drop in one star on my review. The wine tasting was fun. They give you a list of a couple of dozen wines and you pick the six you'd be most interested in. Very cool if you go with other people and share to figure out what to buy. The raspberry chocolate silk desert wine is to die for. Try it! You won't be sorry. read more

Went there for a wine tasting with a night out with girlfriends. We each got six different wine tastings and a cheese and cracker plate. The place was packed and everyone was having a great time. Very upbeat atmosphere. You didn't feel intimidated at all with your wine knowledge or lack thereof. The staff was very geneours with their advice and recommendations. My wife and I really enjoyed our wine tasting! The staff was very friendly and we were able to discuss each of the wines before and after we tasted them. Don't let the business park exterior turn you away from visiting this place! Oh and I tasted the Jalapeno wine. It is hotter than I expected it to be (and not bad might I add if you can handle Jalapenos). I had never heard of Jaden James brewery but when I saw a Groupon for hard cider tasting I knew I had to try it! It is in an industrial type strip in a plain building that does not seem at all like a winery or brewery but don't let that fool you! I didn't even realize it was part of Cascade Winery. All of the staff were super friendly and the place was pretty busy! So I tried the 4 ciders, apple, peach, cherry & raspberry. I honestly loved them all. The apple & peach were my favorite 2, my friend liked the raspberry the best. I also bought a growler of root beer & it is pretty good! They offer $1 off root beer growler refills & $2 off cider growler refills on Tuesdays - may be my new Tues spot after work! ;-)~ I will most definitely be back for more - but NOT the jalapeno wine - I am too much of a wuss to even try the free sample I was offered!!! :) read more

I've tasted some of the BEST cider and wine I've ever tasted here- the price is perfect and the taste is truly incredible. It is a little hard to find, but worth the search! The staff is SO friendly and personable, not over the top, but very helpful and honest. Only reason this review is not 5 stars is because of the ambiance. Only 4 stars because of its super weird location. Bottom level of a office building with fluorescent lighting. But they were very busy when we went. What's really fun is they not only have wine but also cider and Jaden James beer tasting. Loved that there were 5 ciders to try. 5! My fiancé and I had two flights with 5 samples each and he got a beer flight and I got a cider flight,which is pretty cool cause you can't really do that at many places. I had the Peanut Butter Porter, the Russian Imperial Stout and the regular IPA. Of the three, the only one that I really liked was the Peanut Butter Porter. The other ones were solid, but not great. Since I usually don't just sit around and drink eight beers, I am happy just to have one go-to beer at a microbrewery. I like dark beers better than light beers, so I will definitely go here again. She made us feel as if we were trying to scam them. But after 5 minutes of calm discussion, and a phone call to someone, decided they would "honor" it. If you like business parks, fluorescent lights, utility carpet, laminate countertops, and at least one very rude staff, then the Cascade Winery is for you! Let's start on location, which is what brought us here. Driving along the business-parky Broadmoor / East Beltline, looking right, you see "Cascade Winery" and think - what on earth is a winery doing there? Fast forward: there's a living social deal for a wine tasting - we figure this will be our chance to check it out. We set our expectations low. But not low enough. You see, one would think that locating your business in a business park, you might try to compensate for the lack of rolling hills by creating a unique and interesting atmosphere. The solid wood floors and polished wood countertops of Sonoma and intimate lighting. You could create this in a business park and people walking into it would take a step back and say, "Hey - this is pretty cool". I'm quite sure no one has said this when walking onto the utility carpet, the same used at a Family Bookstore perhaps, and then stare blindingly up into the fluorescent lighting. We were greeted by what came off as a quite rude older lady, who before I could say a word, mumbled something about 'Living Social' and then walked away. This was your chance to start a relationship with a potential wine patron - and you pretty much killed it. Most people will buy a bottle or two after a tasting, if not for any reason other than they feel like they should, but after this rude greeting, we pretty much dismissed the thought. Be nicer - be welcoming - be warm - be personable - these are the things we look for in winery staff. So let's get to the wines; which given the lackluster of everything else, isn't negative. They are drinkable. There is no allusion to vineyards; these are indeed third party grower sourced grapes; there is no field for you to visit, or tour to be offered, but the wines were drinkable - if not generic. They do try to stand out by also producing a variety of fruit wines, meads, and a Jalapeño wine (that was pushed on us heavily as something that goes good on most foods, I'm sure). read more

We were excited to try a winery. We found Cascade Winery online, and it said it opened at 2pm. We got there shortly after 2 and the door was locked. Luckily the lady at the next door business saw us walking away and called the Cascade Winery owner to let her know that she had customers. Once inside, we enjoyed decent pours of 6 different wines from their menu. Reds, whites, mead, and seltzer's. All samples were yummy. Red and blue fruit wine was the favorite of the day. We made a last minute decision to stop in here on the way back from Grand Rapids. I'm so glad we did! The setup is a bit off-putting because it's located in an office complex. Don't let that deter you though! There is nothing 9-5 about the drinks in this place. LOL! The samples are pretty cheap, and they also have free popcorn available while you linger. I was impressed by the selection of beer as well. Prices to purchase wine also weren't bad. I walked away with a nice bottle of medium-dry white for $14. My only gripes (small in fact) are: 1) you can't sit down while you have your samples. They have several tables set up, but you have to return to the counter each time you want to try something new. It makes the experience a little less relaxing. Some stools at the bar would make a world of difference. 2) We weren't given any information about the wines/beers as we sampled them. The only information we received was based on questions we ASKED (Should I try them in a particular order? Where does this one come from? What would you pair this with? etc). A little more customer-employee interaction would have gone a long way for me. Overall though, I definitely enjoyed myself. I just wouldn't select this location if you wanted an overall "vineyard feel" winery experience. P.S. If you're a spice fan, the jalapeno wine is a must try!!! read more

They are the best ever! Wine is better than any wine I have tasted across Michigan. I just love Rose and her husband. They are great people with quality beer and wine for all those different tasters. This is an exceptional place. I highly recommend. For those that do not like sweet syrup type wine...their fruit wines are the best because of the natural fruit flavor which keeps some of the sour. Used to love this place. Went recently and they stated that they no longer did their buy a glass and get free tastings program. Even though we hadn't seen it, they did not honor it just to provide good customer service. Was disappointed, but as always love the taste of the wines and beer. I visited here during a trip to visit family. I enjoyed the process and the products were really good. My favorites were the fruit wines, plum and pear. The venue was in a good location and very clean. The staff was really friendly and knowledgable. Beware, this tasting process involves standing the entire time, so try to be comfortable. I was really pleased overall. I only spent 15.00 to taste 12 1.5 oz samples and I also had chips and cheese! This place is perfect for an after work quick drink! read more

Tight-knit family-run winery and brewery with a HUGE variety of wines, beers, 4 hard ciders and even a root beer to try. Cascade Winery/ Jaden James Brewery used to be in Cascade but expanded and moved to this location on Beltline. Yes, it is a little bizarre to have a tasting room in with office buildings, but come on - we're in Grand Rapids not Napa. I think they did a fine job of decorating, and they have always been more than welcoming and friendly with us. We go at least once a week. Every time I've been there they have treated every customer extremely well even when the entire tasting room is lined up and busy, which is nearly every evening. That alone should tell you something! They work their BUTTS off and it really shows in the experience and the product. And the fact that they just opened a second location! In terms of the drinks, the ciders are good but I prefer wine and beer - They have a good variety, probably 25+ wines including very unique ones: jalapeno wine, chocolate dessert wine, 2 kinds of meads, fruit wines and more. The beers range from light easy-drinking all the way to two small-batch Scottish ales, one even aged in bourbon barrels. Not for lightweights, it's above 9%! read more
