Sometimes I have to be honest and it's truly to let a business know what some others might be too afraid to say. With that said... I enjoyed the drinks at the bar and Candy (the Bartender, name has been changed so no one gets in trouble) was great company and conversation. She was constantly moving and talking, good work ethic. That is nice to see. My Hubby and I ate a late lunch so we opted for the appetizer board with the roasted eggplant, beet hummus, pita chips, cucumber mint salad, falafel and olives. The hummus was good, the eggplant was also good. I love olives, so that was also good. The presentation could have been a tad prettier or better thought out. The hummus and eggplant appeared to be oozing and the chips were dusty with paprika. A little goes a long way with that spice so ease up. The cup of soup we ordered on the side, Artichoke, was nothing like we had anticipated. It was very sharp flavored and there didn't appear to be anything but artichoke in it. I let Candy know, as we dined at the bar, that the soup resembled something you would do a cleanse with after pouring it out of your magic bullet. We all had a good laugh and she was kind enough to take it off of our bill and let us know she would let the kitchen know. When I asked her if she tried it or if anyone else in the kitchen had. She advised she had not.. and couldn't speak for the kitchen. My suggestion, taste your food. I do love this place. I have had good food here and drink.. and plan on returning. *review during COVID-19* This restaurant is located in Costanoa, one of 2 restaurants inside the resort. We ended up eating here twice for dinner, as we didn't realize Pine Tent was closed on Mondays! Booooo Anywho, you order at the front door, and pick up your order around the side at another door. There is a beautiful outdoor seating area with string lights, an assortment of bar-height tables, picnic bench-like tables.. complete with a large chess set off to the side. We had our dogs and infant son with us so we took our food back to our cabin. We ordered the: - bleu burger, medium well -- pretty good, fries were soggy but of course they were since it was takeout - scallop coconut curry -- spicy! flavorful - shrimp cesar salad -- straightforward, wish there was more shrimp - linguine with clams -- this one I didn't try, but my boyfriend said it was good - fancy grilled cheese -- by the time I ate it (I have an infant son, enough said), it was soggy and kind of fell apart. we ended up bringing this back home as leftovers, we tossed it in the toaster oven and it was all good after that. Pretty much a veggie grilled cheese with brie. For what it is, a campground restaurant, it was overpriced, but then again it saves us a headache from cooking over a fire. My review is based on my breakfast bowl one morning and my clam linguine one evening. Breakfast bowl wasn't good. I was enticed by all the vegetables from their garden and the farro. I also opted for the bacon add-on. The server had told me that all the vegetables were cooked in the dish, which is exactly what I wanted on a cold November morning. Turns out only a few slivers of peppers were grilled. Aside from that it was raw kale and mixed greens. I'd call this a salad rather than a breakfast bowl. The grilled peppers and the bacon had clearly been pre-cooked because they were cold and gummy and the poached eggs had very pale yolks. This was disappointing because I'd have thought the eggs would have been higher quality with deeper colored yolks. The dressing was sweet because it was mostly honey and that didn't pair well with all the ingredients in my opinion. It made the whole salad sweet. I would have preferred something more akin to a green goddess dressing. My clam linguine however, was amazing. I also requested that scallops be added to the dish. The clams and scallops were perfectly cooked and the white wine sauce was so good I could have eaten a bowl of that as soup. The linguine itself was also cooked well so that it was al dente and they give you a lot of it! The crusty bread was perfect for dipping. read more

Good food, amazing location. Totally tucked away from the road there's this huge camping/glamping/RVs setup with a lodge and Cascade restaurant. We made a chance stop for a burger after checking out the Pigeon Point Lighthouse and rather than eating in the car as we'd planned wound up having a great dinner under fairy lights and a heat lamp. Highly recommend, just don't be surprised by the well-staffed security shack at the entrance. It makes sense when you go farther in to the compound. read more

My boyfriend and I just celebrated our Ani at Costanoa and had our dinner at Cascade. The portions were very generous. The service was great and the ambiance was pleasant. Stopped by today for lunch on our way to Monterey. What a lovely place. The view of the ocean was right there. We sat at the table by the fireplace. So we tried Cascade restaurant today. 1:30pm midweek only saw one family of four dining in the spacious dining room. We elected to eat outside, 81° slight breeze, shaded from the sun, great view, and relentless flies. Will eat inside next time. Service was sloooow, very slow. Waitress was very pleasant. Clam chowder was OK, heavy on the thyme and sage, however. Served with olive oil floating on top? Caprese salad was very heavy on basil. Table had no salt or pepper, had to ask twice, waitress kept forgetting. Luckily wife has her own stash. The bucket of steamers (clams) was just that. This uniquely situated restaurant is one of the coastside's best kept secret. Known mainly to the campers of Costanoa "glamping," and few locals, Chef Mo transforms the local fresh ingredients into delectably memorable dishes. We always enjoy their Brussels sprouts, light calamari as appetizers, Cioppino and "Sope" (tender short ribs on a corn crust) for our entrees and wonderfully rich 70% chocolate pudding. Their homegrown herbs and vegetables from their garden supplies them with much of their greens. Breakfast was solid = good! dinner was a comedy of errors! the pasta coagulated by the time it was served = chunky cheese, noodles stuck together on the cacio e pepe. we ordered 3 bowls of fruit. Thank goodness one of the moms checked it. MOLD on blueberries and raspberries. scallops: my husband ate 1, it didn't taste normal, it tasted metallic, tried 2nd. then stopped sister in law was barfing all night from 11pm-3am after eating the chicken pot pie and tres leches cake. I had the chicken pot pie. it was soup in a bread bowl. yummy and no stomach issues. But perhaps something happened to hers they did not charge for the fruit and scallops. We stayed at Costanoa lodge for two nights and ate at Cascade for dinner and brunch-great food and service both times! The dinner was a celebratory birthday dinner on a Thursday night and we made a reservation through Open Table. We had the steak (shared portion) which came with potatoes, green salad and a purée of some sort that was delicious. Steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly! Also came with complementary *warm* bread and butter. Wine selection wasn't large but is well curated. We had rosé and a Gamay-both excellent. Finished our meal with a sundae and moved to the bar area to watch the end of a Warriors game. The next day we had breakfast/brunch. My partner got ricotta pancakes and I got a breakfast plate with eggs, potatoes and bacon. Everything was delicious! Service was fantastic and only critique would be that the ambiance and pricing is really for a special occasion. Would be nice during the week if they had a more casual menu with lower price point. Especially at breakfast time, would be nice to have smaller (oatmeal, breakfast sandwich) or to-go items. A great gem of a restaurant and glad we got to try it during our stay at Costanoa! read more

A group of 12 people. Before ordering, we asked for separate bills but got a negative answer: "too complicated". OK let's go so we'll have 3 bills for 4 people instead and deal with it. Not an issue. There were hardly anybody in the restaurant. We ordered our food. The first dish came in at one end of the table (I was seating at the other end). My plate came in when almost everybody else had already finished their own dish...25 minutes after the first dish was served. I got my crabcakes about 40 minutes after ordering. Excellent but still frozen inside (!!) My dish was replaced (still slightly cold in the center of the cake) but unfortunately all my friend were already done with their food when my replacement was served. The staff eventually did not charge me for my dish (but $5 for the fries). Now the food: - Frozen crabcakes (could have been a solid 4 stars). $15. the most expensive dish. - Fish and chips ($12): tiny bits of fish (not a "filet" but several small pieces of fish, maybe approximately 8 tiny pieces on a bed of fries: 0 stars). A joke. - Fish taco ($11): hardly no fish in there, very bland and almost no seasoning. - Chicken sandwich: quarter inch chicken steak in the sandwich - 2 glasses of Malbec (red wine): $30 Never again. read more

Really can't believe a restaurant this good is at a KOA campground. Shows how much I know. Top notch dinner at this restaurant. Had short rib which came with a delicious gravy to keep it moist. Roasted vegetables too. On the side we had crispy Brussels sprouts. Yum. Great to enjoy the meal with some wine outside (a delicious Morgan Pinot Noir from Carmel) while listening to live music. The Brussels sprouts and calamari appetizers tasted really yummy and the spirits were some of the best I ever had. I can't say enough about how amazing our experience was at this restaurant. A lot of that was due to the fact that our waiter Frankie gave us all the best service we've ever had. Being vegan, I have a lot of dietary restrictions that usually make it hard to eat out at restaurants. When I asked waiter Frankie which items on the menu were non-dairy he pulled out a hand written list he had made with all the vegan options I could order! Food was extremely disappointing. The "artichoke" croquettes were a ball of bland mushy unrecognizable substance. I asked a very nice waitress what was in them. I could tell she knew there was an issue once she looked at the plate. The croquettes literally smelled like cat food! We ordered a chicken dinner, burnt! And you could tell it had been sitting under a heat lamp as it was dry. My friend had the steak frites, asked for medium, got shoe leather. The drinks were FANTASTIC, they saved the night and the wait staff were friendly, polite and took our complaints professionally and took off the bad items. We did not want any replacement dishes because I did trust the kitchen at that point. For the prices being charged, management needs to hire staff that can cook and execute a dish! Drove down the coast on a windy rainy day and stopped there for the first time. Out outside. The service was wonderful. The food exquisite. We had a huge portion of delicious roasted Brussel sprouts. The best service and the fastest meal we have ever been served. My wife and I came back the 2nd night we stayed in Pescadero just because it was that good. We got butternut squash (both nights - it was that good) and our waitress was 15/10, and just so fast we could not believe it. Do not order the Braised Beef Baguette! It was inedible; couldn't get past the horrible chewy fat, none of it was tasty and the Baguette was a soft soggy bun that just fell apart. Fries were soggy, cold & mushy. So not worth waiting 30 minutes for table and another hour wait for food that was terribly disappointing! Also, bar staff were young and rude with short responses, not service oriented whatsoever. They acted like we were a bother as we ordered drinks to pass the long wait. Andrés was courteous, professional and attentive... he even brought me freshly baked bread & butter for my soup although it's not really included in the menu. The Brussel Sprouts induced with balsamic vinegar and goat cheese were probably the best I've had, and they're locally grown! Tomato soup was good as well. Great service. Nice ambience. Food was ok, not something to be like and ooh & aah. That is why I am giving 4 stars. We ordered the crabcakes, caesar salad, cioppino, soup of the day which is sweet yams. The crabcakes tasted it has a bit of an extender. The cioppino tasted ok. The caesar salad, wish is was cut up in bite size instead of serving it whole leaves, then topped with the dressing. We will still comeback and try their other food in the menu. read more

This is an interesting place, it's setup like a fancy / high end restaurant and charges the prices you would expect for one but is also accepting of the people who are camping in the RV or Tent sites. It's nice that it's open like that. They start you off with a nice bagett / sourdough loaf and garlic butter I had Cesar salad and Cioppino and my wife the clam chowder, corn risotto and crab cakes. The salad was good but in one of those strange fancy / not moments I wasn't offered ground pepper with it - I made due with the pepper on the table. The Cioppino had a flavorful but watery broth with a fair helping of seafood but it was all a bit overcooked (tough shrimp, fish that would have been dry if not in broth). I wasn't dissapointed, it wasn't bad, it was just average. My wife reported the chowder was also on the thin side but had good flavor and she really enjoyed the crab cakes and risotto. The restaurant has a full bad and I found the local speciality generous in size and surprisingly inexpensive as far as mixed drinks go. I've been here before and have never had a bad meal (they have mad good cobblers in the past) and if you are already here it's a nice place to eat. I don't think I would make it a destination. Though, ~25 miles up the coast are quite a few other options, probably the same south of here. read more

Great setting, although the food was very ok. Just ok. I had a sense that the ingredients were good, fresh, etc., but the overall flavors were pretty bland. We had a chicken pot pie and the mushroom ravioli along with a wedge salad. Both of the primary dishes were bland. We tried the peach and ginger pie and the crust was pretty mushy and there was no hint of ginger. Anyway - for a "campground" restaurant - I'd say pretty good, but this is not set up as a campground restaurant - the overall pricing requires that the flavors are much better. My experience here is probably not typical. My boyfriend and I were not staying at Coastanoa; instead, we were passing through on a road trip along Highway 1. That being said, this was one of our favorite stops - perfect for a rest stop/quick bite/drinks. Plenty of indoor and some outdoor seating (great during the summer), friendly staff, and yummy bites. The duck rillettes came highly recommended and definitely did not disappoint - so rich and flavorful. Also a wonderful selection of wine given it's slightly remote location. They even had some local brews. We finished all of the little crackers that came with the duck rillettes and brie plate and asked for more. They actually ran out, so they heated up a brioche bun for us instead. Both were great with the plate we had. Favorite thing here was the human-sized chess board right outside for kids (or adults) to play on. Wizard chess anyone? read more
