Was thinking about visiting the caverns again and realized I never wrote a review from when I initially visited. My friends and I visited the Cascade Caverns last September (2020) as our first stop for a birthday roadtrip. They have a super cute little shop where my friends and I got matching rings, and they had a bunch of other cool stuff. Well worth the visit! Our guide Bree was very knowledgeable and the whole experience only takes about an hour. You'll get wet! It's a living cave so you'll feel drops of water hitting you. There an RV site on the grounds. read more

Had an awesome time here! Our tour guide, James, was very informative and hilarious. The cave was spectacular and unforgettable. We'll be returning with our young daughter one day. Just be aware that, as of December 2020, masks are required inside the cave and gift shop. There are around 100 steps going into and out of the cavern. And there's a low spot where you have to duck to walk through for about 20" or so. I'm claustrophobic but didn't have any problems in this cave. Highly recommended! read more

Highly recommend! I went with my sister, whom was visiting from out of state, earlier this week. We had Pocket for our tour guide and she was great! Super fun, knowledgeable, and very personable. We saw several bats, salamanders, and some frogs. This is an active wet cave, so it was very cool to see all of the different formations and hear of the different flooding. I like that this is a more intimate tour, and we weren't bombarded with a ton of people. We got to ask questions and explore. It's off the beaten path, but definitely worth the trip compared to other caverns in the area. Thank you so much! read more

My family and I were in San Antonio for Spring Break and for one last hurrah decided we wanted to do a cave tour. We were deciding between Natural Bridge Caverns and Cascade Caverns, but decided against Natural Bridge as it as it may be crowded, and we wanted something different, not so "civilized" or "touristy", and boy did we choose right. Cascade Caverns may not look like much when pulling into the entrance, it's an RV park as well as cave tour site, but this is Texas' oldest "show cave". We went to the ticket office/souvenir shop and booked our tour. It was about 11 and the next available tour wasn't until 1, but we figured it was a chance for us to eat a picnic lunch, and we also paid for the kids to dig for gems in a little gravel pit by the office. The kids had a blast digging and we had out lunch, then met at the flag poles to wait for the tour to start. Our tour guide was a young dude in sunglasses with a sort of west coast way of speaking. Enter Sting-Ray. He kept the tour laughing with his jokes and quick wit, and was amazing with the plethora of questions the kids on the tour had. I have been on quite a few cave tours in different states and I believe this tour has to be one of the best. The cave was nice and cool and pretty wet, so wear appropriate clothing and shoes. Another cool thing was seeing the bats and also a couple newts that are native to this cave. One word of advice, I'm sure the other guides are great, but if you want an awesome cave tour, I strongly encourage you to call the park ahead of time and find out what tours Sting-Ray will be leading because trust me friends, he is the best! Owner Lance Kyle yelled at me for running over a 10" cone and asphalt used to plug a pothole. It was my fault and I had no clue that I hit the cone since I was turning right and didn't see it. Multiple times I attempted to repair it, pay for it or do whatever was necessary to make things right. I called him an a-hole at the end of the video. I shouldn't have done that but by that time I was very upset. This guy cussed me, called me a drunk and a moron multiple times. I had my two kids (4 and 5 year old sons in the car) with me at the time. I've been out to the cave in the past since I worked as a paramedic and RN with Kendall County EMS. The staff is great. The cave is a natural wonder of beauty and intrigue. But the owner, well, you judge for yourself based on his replies. Obviously from the video it's apparent that I tried everything to mitigate the situation. I guess a family man that hits a 10 inch cone (no I didn't almost hit a car) is not welcome at his "family friendly" park. Alas, I'm not too worried about being banned. In the end it's this park that loses because I won't bring my Boy Scout group back or our school group. By the looks of the place it could use some business. read more

You do not have to go far in order to have an adventure, no matter what age you are. Cascade caverns had been on my list for a while, but we randomly decided to go while we were driving around. And I am so glad we did! We went for an afternoon tour with the kiddos and it was great. You meet up with your tour guide in group of about 16-20. They provide flash lights or you can bring your own. Piece of advise, where sneakers you don't mind getting muddy. You don't need to be worrying about your shoes when you could be enjoying the cavern. I'm glad we did. You go down an extra long flight of stairs. And as you descend the tour guide regales you with facts and throughout the tour. Which I really appreciate it. The facts were great and interesting and made a lot of sense. They made what you were looking at make sense. The formations, structures, wildlife and cavern was AWESOME. No pictures with this review, I was too busy looking at everything and enjoying it, plus my camera wouldn't do it justice. I just bought post cards. Bonus tip, this is a great summer activity, the cavern is 60 degrees! Our group didn't want to leave the cavern, it was so cool! Lol. Dragon slayer was our guide, she did a great job. A great local adventure that we will gladly do again, especially when it's right in your own backyard so to speak. read more

This IS the cavern where you get to actually see at eye level the growing stalactites, bats, salamanders and the fact that it gets flooded frequently makes the structures very dynamic!!! This is a great place. Kid and dog friendly. The cave tour...well...was stupendous!! Much smaller than Mammoth Cave, but MUCH better. Salamanders, bats, fossils, unique stone formations: an anthropologist goldmine. School tours too. Annie was our guide and she was fantastic!! Very patient w/us. The RV campground I'd say needs a little work, but fulfilled our needs completely. Full hookups, but no cable. Lots of stores (grocery, hardware, restaurants) nearby. Pulling up to the property was somewhat like just driving through a neighborhood. You would never imagine something so beautiful was hiding behind it. We saw a family of Axis deer as we pulled up, our first time to see one in real life, and they are beautiful. It's was extremely hot (last week of June 2022). Our tour guide was Emily and she was great. Very informative and knowledgeable of the caverns and the history behind this cavern. Extremely polite and funny. Going down was the easy part. Coming back up, takes longer and seems like never ending steps, but Emily gave us plenty of time to rest to reach the top. If you want to see natures beauty, 10/10 would recommend! My husband and I visited Cascade Caverns on Tuesday June 7 at 4:00 pm. the last tour of the day. Emily was our tour guide. The tour "group" consisted of my husband and I !! It was absolutely amazing. I am part of the 65+ crowd. Emily treated me like a family member. Parts of the cave were pretty slippery and Emily held my arm to keep me from feeling like I was going to fall. The cave is absolutely beautiful and nice and cool on such a hot day! Emily is so knowledgeable and patient explaining and teaching us about a prehistoric animal encased in the wall and salamander OH I could go on and on!! She never made us feel rushed!! I was fascinated by the pond at the back, the Cross in the ceiling with Christian services and the stalag tights WoW!! I LOVED being down there! Emily is the very best teacher. She made our visit to Cascade Caverns the best ever, pure Perfection!! I also sincerely appreciated her attention toward our safety. We have been to several of the caverns in the area and this was BY FAR our favorite. Wow! It wasn't over commercialized, it was up close and in your face. We saw amazing caverns, bats, salamanders and beautiful rock and mineral formations. The other caverns were more "stay in line, follow every order" type of tour. This one was an explore and discover type atmosphere. We didn't touch anything, as instructed, but we were given flashlights so we could stop and look at various things, that we thought were worth stopping to really take a good look at. Our guide was Stingray and he was GREAT! I would definitely recommend and will go back! *My group consisted of 2 adults and 2 kids. read more
