What makes this place extra special is the manager. Jamy is the gracious and hard-working. She clearly takes pride in taking great care of both the Inn and the guests. We had a couple of scheduling problems and Jamy was willing to work with us, for which we were very appreciative. The Carlton Club Inn is located only a few hundred yards from the Guadalupe River and about 1/4 mile from the 1011 Bistro. The beds were very comfortable, the linens were high quality, and the bedroom curtains were heavy and lined so they kept light out of the bedroom very well. There is plenty of off-street parking. The Carlton Club Inn was a real Godsend during a time when we were between homes. We could not recommend it more highly and would happily return to stay there again. While you are there, stop across the street to Old Ingram Loop, a historic shopping area filled with unique galleries and shops. Must sees are Southwestern Elegance and Clint Orms Silversmith. Less than a mile away is the Hill Country Arts Foundation, where you can visit their gallery or catch an outside play in the summer or inside in the winter. Recently moved to their grounds are the replicas of Stonehenge and Easter Island. Bring your cameras!

This review may suffer from nostalgia bias. My family used to come out to The River Inn every…read moresummer for Labor Day when I was a kid, so I have many years of experience here. Recently, I took the BF for a trip down memory lane, and it was almost exactly as I remembered. The River Inn is a hotel that is made up of condos that are individually owned. Each condo owner allows for the River Inn to rent out their units when they're not there. The units range in size from studios to two bedroom apartments, each equipped with a basic kitchen and amenities. There used to be a restaurant here that operated during the peak season, but that closed down a few years back when one of the restaurant owners passed away, so you'll need to bring your own food for the duration of your stay or plan on making trips into Hunt/Ingram/Kerrville for sustenance. The hotel has its own swimming area that is dammed to give it good depth. There's a floating dock you can swim out to and a water slide (affectionately referred to as "the flume") going down one side of the dam. The River Inn also provides canoes, life jackets, and paddles for those that want to canoe up river to Slippery Rock, a raised part of the limestone riverbed where you can get out and splash around in shallower water. The River Inn also has a family room with a game area that comes equipped with a ping pong table, pool table, air hockey table, and three old school video games (Mrs. Pacman, Street Fighter II Championship Edition, and some other Atari shooting game whose name I can't remember). In other words, there is no shortage of things to do at this place. Some people stay here and use it as a base of operations for sightseeing in the surrounding area, but every time I've come here we've stayed on the property for the entire time, and I've never been bored, whether aged ten or aged [AGE REDACTED]. This year the BF and I visited during the first weekend of the off-season for the reduced room rates and smaller crowd and we had a splendid time. There's really nothing quite so amazing as planning your day around when you're going to go canoeing, then when you're going to go swimming, then when you're going to polish off those two bottles of red wine and 12-pack of Shiner you brought with you. I cannot recommend this place highly enough, whether it be for a family vacation or a romantic weekend getaway for two. There is something about this stretch of the Guadalupe River that seeps into your bones and lets you release all your real world concerns, if only for a long weekend.

We were walking distance from the pool. There were two pools for us to use; one heated and the other pool was unheated. There is also a hot tub and a slide at the unheated pool. The pool is next to the amenity center which has a gym and game area which includes pool, connect 4, Jenga and other games. Overall, a great place to take the family that is not too far from a city (Kerrville) with eateries.

Unfortunately we were only in the area one day but we truly enjoyed our stay. The rooms were very nice as well as the outdoor seating area. There were chairs as well as a firepit on the raised deck and a bench by the front door with a nice new rug to really brighten things up. There was also a barbecue pit to use as well as a small refrigerator and microwave as well as dishes for your use. Since we were only staying one night I chose the smaller of the cabins however it was really plenty of room. You walk into a little sitting area and then the main room you have a nice bed, which was extremely comfortable and table for two. A bar area that has dishes, a coffee pot and all the accessories. The breakfast was so much better than the free breakfast offered at hotels. She provided pasties and fruit to start along with coffee, juice and water. While enjoying those, she then prepared made to order eggs, home fries and bacon. We will definitely be returning and staying longer.

We were looking for a place to stay while in Fredericksburg and stumbled upon God's Country Cabins…read moreon Airbnb AND through the management company Gastehaus Schmidt. Since it was Easter weekend and we were booking only 3 days in advance, we ended up booking one of the cabins for our weekend getaway. We were definitely happy with our choice. It was a good 7 miles from Main Street Fredericksburg which wasn't too long of a drive from town. However, it was definitely off the beaten path. You'll wind through some country roads before you hit a gate with an access code for the 4 cabins. The grounds were well maintained and the four cabins formed a little community in the gated area. We stayed in "Mercy" which was one of the middle cabins - there was a designated parking spot for each cabin and wooden walkways leading up to the cabin. The cabins were made completely of wood, including the kitchen island and the bar stools made to look like wine barrels. The rocking chairs on the porch and the wine barrel table was a nice touch. The cabins all contain a little living area with a small love seat, a TV, and a small kitchen complete with an island, microwave, sink and refrigerator. It comes furnished with a set of plates and silverware - enough for 2 people. The owners left us cookies and a nice little welcome note, which was a nice touch. The cabin each contained a king size bed and a bathroom with a spacious standing shower. The beds were a little uncomfortable, as were the pillows, but the sheets were soft. There are ceiling fans in both rooms (living and bedroom) and a small A/C unit, which we set to 68 at night but wasn't very cold. The water was also warm but didn't get very hot. The cabins provided towels and shampoo, body wash and conditioner. Overall, it was a nice space for a romantic getaway for 2. There is a shared patio space in the middle with a tiny bbq grill, like the ones you see at a state park, and a round table set on top of a wooden patio to be used for lunch/dinner, etc. It is lit at night and the paths are also lined with motion sensored lights for visibility. It was quiet and you do not hear your neighbors at all, especially since this is an adult only facility. We enjoyed it and liked the country feel of the cabins a lot! From the looks of it, the cabins were brand new and from the guestbook, only 4 or 5 other couples stayed here before us. Clean, new, and private with everything we needed! We drove into town for wine tasting and breakfast, and drove another 45 mins to a little over an hour to Enchanted Rock State Park and Pedernales Falls State Park in Johnson City!
