This hidden gem was just that!! Beautiful scenery, gorgeous cottages and full of history! I don't do reviews very often and probably would not have this time exce after meeting the owner and then reading the reviews, I felt it was the right thing to do. When requesting information on the history of the home we stayed in the owner was so sweet to us. Melissa was surprisingly helpful and full of answers! Thank you, Melissa! If you enjoy history, nature and waking up to an old world feel.... check this place out! completely worth it! We'll be back soon! Tanna~

Hmmm....not an easy review. Pros:The place was charming and looked like the pictures. Animals were so nice to see! Deer, sheep, horse Cons: "Check in"- there is none! No one greets you, you can call or text questions...not what we expected. Breakfast- items only sporadically refilled, "pastries " unappetizing....we did try them :( Bed- way too soft for a comfortable sleep, of course this is individual taste. WiFi- biggest issue. There is NONE. Plus there is no local reception other than AT&T. This had a huge, negative impact on our trip. Unable to see where to go, to get directions, to plan day. When we called owners they said to turn on our hotspot?!?!? Uh, no. Not an option. If this was a cheap motel, this could be overlooked- but for over $1k for weekend. The charm doesn't overcome this. Not recommended, 2 stars for charm & animals.

We loved our stay here in the Von Heinrich cabin. It was this beautiful historical fenced house with antique art and furniture in every room. The bed and sofa were very comfy, and there was a large bathroom, and a large kitchen with a full sized fridge , stove top , table and dishes. Everything in the house felt so cozy and nice, and it was spotless inside. And in the summer heat, the AC worked better than my house. The grounds are very pretty and peaceful with lots of trees and a small group of sheep and the cutest little donkey, that roam around the grounds, and are all very friendly. They came each evening to visit. There is also a little walking path and several other historical cabins that are also very pretty. The owner was extremely nice on the phone and very accommodating. And returned all my messages immediately. We will definitely be returning.

If you are looking for fancy, spoiling attention and cuisine, this is not the place for you. If you were looking to sit out back and enjoy a glass of the local wine purchased from a winery within a mile, or have the sheep and the donkeys come up and visit you while you sit outside in the morning for coffee, then this is the place for you. If you want to decompress and watch the deer cross through the Meadow, then this is where you wanna be. We stayed in the Indiana house. There are just two of us and it was perfect for us. I love the self check in as we had just come from Austin and I wanted some quiet time.. That's what you're gonna get here. The owner did come by the next morning and she was pleasant, telling me the names and the history of the donkey in the area. Our house is the closest one to the street and there is some traffic noise on what used to be country Road. She apologized for that but I told her no apologies necessary! Next time we will probably go farther back on the property because we took a drive back there and it's amazing. I really do hope there is a next time. I will post some pictures in this review but I do need to warn you if you are looking for an accessible place to stay, This is probably not the best choice; it is rough country. Both of us are seniors and we're making it around just fine but if you have mobility issues, I would recommend a cane or trekking pole just for extra stability. There is not much lighting outside at night. But of course, that makes the stars all the brighter.

She approached us AGAIN aggressively as we were leaving! We took video of her aggressive behavior.

The Owner was extremely aggressive & threatening & made us feel UNSAFE! It was a miserable awakening the first morning. The lady was beating on the door & trying to force her way in. My wife was asleep and I was in the restroom. She identified herself as the Owner & accused us of deliberately using the wrong cabin & trashing the place, using candles & being drunk. She was completely rude & threatening. This could have been resolved in a cordial, professional manner, since it was an obvious misunderstanding caused by inaccurate information presented to us & a late arrival on a rainy night with thunderstorms. As other reviews have stated, there were no check-in instructions, especially booking through AirBnB. We had no idea that we checked into the wrong cabin at 9:00 PM being dark & rainy. No instructions other than an address, which took us to her house, directly across from this cabin. No description or map to the cabin. It only said "the key is in the door" & the picture of the door with the wreath looked like the one on the website, so we went in. She should've checked AirBNB herself instead of blaming us! Regardless, she could have been polite instead of scaring the hell out of us with her false accusations and aggressive behavior! We had one glass of wine last night with LED Candles and then went to bed! DANGER!! Beautiful property but not worth $500/night and UNSTABLE owner! UPDATE- There is definitely no "he said, she said" here. I have video of this very bad person's aggressive behavior if anyone is interested. Let me know here. Also, that other Alias is my wife, not me, Lady! You pissed her off!

We stayed at the Von Heinrich home and it did not disappoint! We sipped our coffee on the rocking chairs in the back and enjoyed the wildlife and peaceful quietness. The interior makes it feel like you've stepped back into time. Check in and out was easy and David was available via phone if needed. We have a wonderful stay!!

If you want to get away for awhile - this is the place to stay. Will go back again soon!

After hearing that they are well known for their little B&Bs this one stood out among the rest for our weekend trip. We were going to be visiting on our 15th anniversary and lucky for us they still had some Saturday night reservations a few weeks before our trip. We originally had the Evening Star reserved but a lovely woman from the reception reached out to us upon seeing our reservation and asked if we wanted to be upgraded to the Weber House - for no additional charge! This was an absolute yes! What a nice gesture since they knew it was our anniversary - based on the questionnaire during check out. Some of the buildings are split with multiple room offerings- like the main hall- the Weber House however we stayed in was just us. We had a cute porch, living room, kitchen, bedroom, hugeeee bathroom with clawfoot tub and a screened in outdoor porch. Some of the bigger houses you can rent have room for multiple people but ours was intended for 2 people. They also have a cute library with some books and DVDs you can borrow. The property itself was VERY quiet. When we arrived we checked in at the little office upfront. The girl working even walked us to our little house since we had never been on the property before. Whoever stayed at the house the night before had broken the glass on the little table in the kitchen which was a bummer, so we could not use that, and maintenance was off on weekends. But otherwise it was the cute quaint place. Bed was comfy, central AC even though the buildings themselves pre-date that. Each one is unique too! We especially liked sitting on the screened in porch at night and enjoying a bottle of wine. In the morning they promptly left breakfast in a basket at 9am at our doorstep that was home cooked. It was a very sweet inn.

My wife and I biked the Willow City Loop, and we were able to leave straight from the Hoffman Haus without any issues. But best of all, the staff hosted a Super Bowl party with great barbecue when we got back from our ride! They are truly the friendliest people.

The shower has a higher head and we liked the new laminate floors. We liked the two lounge chairs, chair and desk along with the microwave and mini fridge. Pretty much the previous review still stands, but I added a few more recent photos and comments So why still the 3 stars? The walls and ceilings are quite thin where you can hear someone tromping around upstairs and snoring in the room next to you as well as upstairs. People are allowed to bring their pets to the rooms which means you can listen to them bark in the room next to you. My morning shower was set to hot, but it was barely warm. We pulled back the sheets and the mattress pad where there was a small blood stain, hairs, and an oily stain near the center of the mattress. No room safe. Breakfast here is pretty much on par with the average Best Western except that the buffet room is very cramped and indoor dining is tight. The outdoor dining area is actually quite nice weather permitting. I personally would like to see either the breakfast eliminated and we pay less for the room or for it to be an exceptional breakfast and charge a little more. By being at the level of mediocrity it just inspires you to go somewhere else. Even the coffee was weak and watery. With all of that said, our 2 day stay was less than $480. For a comfortable relatively clean room with no musty smell, it seems worth it. If you want to enjoy your time here, stay on the second floor and have breakfast at one of the nearby restaurants. 31/2* for the money for an acceptable visit.

This was our first time visiting Fredericksburg and, while the location of this place was ideal,…read morethe lodging itself was unusual. The bed was very comfortable, room was small but fine since we were just sleeping there. Breakfast is delivered every morning outside the door in a basket. It's a cute concept but the food itself wasn't appetizing. Taking off the most stars because of the shower set up. The shower is inside the massive tub that you have to step into. It's very uncomfortable to get in and out of, especially if you're short like I am. Including a pic so that you have fair warning. Will not be staying here next time we visit.

The lady at the checkin building was wonderful! She was very accommodating and put us on the first floor so I didn't have to climb stairs (back surgery in Dec). We stayed in room 4. Upon opening the door, I fell in love! This beautiful room was decorated with antique furniture and just felt cozy! The bed was so comfortable that I got the best nights sleep I've had in over 10 days! The shower was huge and the best water pressure! There is body soap, shampoo and conditioner provided that is made locally at their herb farm. I wanted to purchase from the office, but we were running short of time, so I'll be ordering online! There are robes for your use, that were soft and comfortable! I want one of those too! There is a keurig, microwave and a small refrigerator with a freezer. There is also 4 bottles of local wine on the counter, champagne and beer in the fridge and chips for purchase (mini bar). The room was quiet all night. This place isn't huge, so I felt like we were lucky to get a room here. We will be back in the spring so we can enjoy the beautiful porch area. This morning, we had a wonderful breakfast delivered in a basket! It was delicious! My only suggestion would be to add a boiled egg or sausage patty to have a little more protein with breakfast. Overall, I know the Winchester Lodge will definitely not disappoint!! Highly recommend!
