I don't know what is happening in the North End but all I can assume is that having an address in the neighborhood probably brings cache even when it's not deserved. This place is tiny with tables very close together but I figured that since it was packed and they were turning away walk-ins, it must be good (we had reservations). The walls were in desperate need of paint and there was scotch tape hanging off the walls where their lights had fallen down. I overheard the server at another table going through the menu with the party, but our server had very little personality or information. First: the bread. Clearly the "freshly baked bread" was baked at some other time because while the first piece was edible, any attempt to tear, bite or chew any subsequent piece would leave anyone with a sore jaw. In my experience, this means that the bread has been microwaved to heat it up. Next up: salad. My husband had the Caesar, which I guess was fine. I ordered the beet and was so sad to find four tiny half slices of beet in the mix. It was overdressed and I had to pick out quite a bit of brown slimy leaves from the heap. Also, the restaurant is nut free - but a salad needs some kind of crunch and this was definitely lacking. Finally: the main courses. I was very excited to see butternut ravioli on the menu but was taken aback when I was served a plate of ravioli swimming in a blood-red sauce. The filling inside the ravioli was good but the pasta was way under (not al dente) - white in the center - and the red sauce was just awful. I ate two ravioli and the server did not care to ask why. My husband ordered the pappardelle Bolognese and in my hunger I accepted a bite of the sauce from him. I started laughing because when I took the bite I immediately recognized the taste from my childhood from Chef Boy-R-Dee ravioli sauce from a can. Not wanting to be rude, I kept the comment from my husband until later, and when I told him what I thought it tasted like he said, "Yeah, but who doesn't like Chef Boy-R-Dee?" and agreed. It was a Saturday evening, our last day visiting Boston and we wanted Italian food. We came across this place since it's known for their homemade pasta. It did not disappoint, we ordered the bruschetta appetizer (so delicious) and the pappardelle bolognese. It was pretty busy but they were able to seat after waiting about 20mins. The place was a little snug and the waiters did take some time to attend to us but nonetheless we were satisfied with our meals. Definitely would recommend and will be coming back! Thank you for your services! read more

It was a really wonderful family dinner tonight with the best service from Justin. Love lil Italy Boston. North End is absolutely the place to find that perfect Italian meal. Everyone damn near cleaned their plates. Even dessert too! We ordered veal, lamb, lobster ravioli, parpadelle alfredo, scallops over risotto and cod over risotto. I got a taste of almost everything. I'm getting too ahead of myself. First off the basket of bread was so good. Started with that. Warm and soft on the inside made to not have just one. I had three. An appetizer, the fried calamari with the red sauce with lemon was delicious too. Lightly battered, not chewy. I just got back into eating seafood from being vegan. It was flavored really well. So then our main dishes came out. The lobster ravioli was warm, covered in thick white sauce, ravioli al dente filled with chunky pieces of lobster. If you are into alfredo though, the parpadelle will probably be the best dish you've ever had. It does not disappoint. And the cod, oh my goodness. I would totally go back for their cod. Those were my favorite from my first visit. Cannoli and caramel flan was a very nice ending. We got lucky with this spot tonight. I called last minute. No reservation, just showed up, and got sat down with a party of 7. They don't seat you unless the entire party is there. Smallest little spot at the back corner with an intimate view of the back office watching servers walk pass holding fabulous Italian dishes, black curtain flying in and out. Great view of the street of Hanover on a Saturday night. Fantastic company. Food I can say was more than satisfying. read more

Made a reservation here on a busy Saturday night before NYE. Despite the place being packed, we were seated after only a minute or two. Our waiter, Juan, was attentive and friendly. He was eager to provide some detail on the menu items and make recommendations. We had overheard another waiter describe a lobster special and mentioned it. We learned they had only one order left and when we decided we wanted it, Juan literally ran to the kitchen to lock it in for us. We shared a reasonably priced bottle of Italian red and selected the Veal Amalfi along with the Lobster and Shrimp Fra da Volo. Both accompanied with Casarecce's homemade pasta. We ended the evening with espresso martinis for dessert. We never felt rushed and were to enjoy a relaxing dinner on a busy North End Saturday. Highly recommend this little gem on Hanover St! read more

Was craving Italian during the lockdown and saw these guys were available on Uber Eats. Place has good reviews, so we figured it's worth trying something new. The positive is that the delivery was very quick. Maybe 30 minutes from when we placed the order to the door. Of the two main dishes we got, the carbonara was already dried out by the time we opened it. Maybe it's a dish best served fresh at a restaurant and not in a container on it's way across town. Still, I've ordered carbonara from other places with longer wait times that were in better shape, for less. The bolognese dish we ordered was quite good though. I'll grant that. What's most troublesome is that we also ordered Oven Baked Meatballs, which are $14.00 for the order. Generally when they're this price, you get a couple of really big ones. Instead, we got three tiny meatballs that weren't particularly well-seasoned. There's no way these are worth $5/per ball, that's crazy. Was really disappointed. An overall expensive lesson not to order from here again. read more

On a Saturday night, there is a reason as to why there are ridiculous lines out the door for two of the restaurants in Boston's North End and why it was so easy to get a table at Casarecce. Like most restaurants in the North End, Casarecce is small and cozy. It was just unfortunate that we got seated right next to the kitchen so it was a little awkward to look to our left and see the servers hiding back there to cut the cold pieces of complimentary bread. So yes, the bread was cold and unimpressive. The olive oil was brought out in a black, plastic, to-go condiment container with nothing else in it. Usually restaurants will add black pepper or their own blend of herbs and spices but nope, this was just plain olive oil. My sister got the Pappardelle Alfredo and while she said it tasted okay, it was just a little sad to see that it was a small plate of pasta for $20. I usually like to try other people's pasta dishes because there's usually enough but I felt bad if I were to take one bite of her dish. My boyfriend's spaghetti & meatballs were unimpressive. The texture of the meatballs was a little too gritty for our liking. The sauce was not great either and a bit tart for our liking. He dumped a whole bunch of parmesan cheese onto it to amp it up. I have mixed feelings about my cod puttanesca. The cod was absolutely delicious and cooked so perfectly. The tomato sauce that was on it didn't do anything to help it so I ended up scraping it off. The theme of the day was "super tart" so my tomato sauce was too tart for me. That in combination with the super salty anchovies was blah. The pasta that it came with I barely touched as well because I wasn't into the taste. Pros for Casarecce? You'll get seated quickly and they accept credit card unlike the other well-known North End establishments. You'll also finish your meal quickly because the portions aren't that big. Will we be back? Probably not. read more

The food here was truly amazing. It was the only non busy restaurant when we went to Little Italy, so we didn't think too much of it, but the waiter here gave such exceptional service and recommendations that our experience here still stays in our brains. All three pasta dishes that we got were amazing, but I'd specifically recommend the seafood pasta if you ever get a chance to try it out. The flavors were out of this world and the pasta is made fresh daily. Also, I think that we just lucked out because once we were leaving the restaurant, the place filled up. If you're ever in the Little Italy area, I'd recommend checking this place out. Plus, they take credit card. read more

Small, quaint, authentic Italian restaurant right on Hanover St. We were offered a window seat and to say the people watching was entertaining is an understatement! This is a cozy, intimate (i.e., small) place, so I recommend reservations if you're eating during the dinner rush. We were fortunate enough to get there early enough to walk in and get a table. We were greeted right away and told about the menu, especially the fact that everything is made fresh daily by hand. My husband ordered the lasagna, which he said was excellent, as were the cappuccino and bread pudding he ordered for dessert. I had the chicken risotto, and it was probably one of the best things I've ever eaten. The butternut squash risotto is just amazing, and the chicken was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I highly recommend a meal here, especially if you're having trouble choosing among all the Italian restaurants available in this area and need a push in the right direction. read more

Amazing location, in the heart of the North End. The dishes were good but the experience as a whole was not great. The poor server was so overstretched that he did not have time to check on us, at all. The basic bread with oil was as plain as it gets and not keeping up with their neighbors. Ordered the garlic bread but it was incredibly thin and cold. Delicious Sauvignon Blanc - 13 Celsius - but I could only order one glass. Again, three people running the whole front of house on a Friday night. The dishes I recommend are the L inguini Frutti di Mare and Shrimp Diavolo with Spaghetti. read more

Great service menu is authentic traditional Italian. Nice ambience we enjoyed the evening.

Definitely the best meal I've had in the north end! I highly recommend getting the chicken parm, because it comes with homemade pasta on the side which is excellent. We also had the espresso martinis which are very good! The restaurant is very small and the tables are a few inches away from each other, so you definitely need to prepare to be in close quarters. We sat down at 6 and our food came to the table by 6:20. Incredibly fast and friendly service! read more

Casarecce - Chicken Parmigiana - Italian Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

We ate here on the Fourth of July, so maybe they were just overwhelmed, but the food was some of the worst Italian food I've ever had. We had the Veal Marsala that had the worst aftertaste. The carbonara had such thick cuts of pancetta that all you could taste was an overwhelming bacon flavor. The rest of the flavors were totally drowned out. And the peas were clearly frozen and chalky the spaghetti frutti du mare had no flavor. All the dishes were clearly missing salt and seasoning. The fish was OK, but not nearly as fresh as other places we've eaten in Boston. The bread for the table was almost inedible. It was so dense and the dough was clearly not salted. Even my teenagers wouldn't eat it. The white wine by the glass also tasted like it had been open one too many days. Definitely try somewhere else on the north end. read more

The pasta was served cold. Very disappointing considering we were in the North End. Our meals were also mediocre at best. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

We were starving at 11:30 and dejected by the super long line at a Neptune's when we came across Casarecce. It was a welcome respite to have a shaded seat, and restroom after a long walk around the North End. I decided to take a load off with their aperol spritz and it was like summer just started - cool, not sweet and refreshing. Daughter and I opted to share the lasagna. I'm glad we did! It was huge, more than enough for two. While we killed it, the amount of ricotta between layers was a bit thick for my taste, I would have preferred more of the delicious meat sauce that topped it. I'm not sure overall that the lasagna is any better than mom would make (eg it wasn't something I will be craving when I leave Boston or when we return), but it hit the spot. Very nice servers, clean facilities and quick turn on our order. read more

Walk On By Service: 4/5 Food: 3/5 Atmosphere: 3/5 GF Options: 2/5 Was in the North End and stopped at a couple places that were all pretty busy. Casarecce had an open table so decided to try the place out. Service was decent but food left a lot to be desired. Eggplant Parm was more breading than Eggplant and the sauce was very generic although the noodles were decent. The Gnocchi was also sub par and needed a little more seasoning. My reco would be walk by and try a different spot. read more

Incredible spot in the North End. The service was incredible. Prompt, friendly, and welcoming. It felt like we were part of the restaurant's family! Definitely the Italian experience in the north end but the food didn't blow us away. We did have good service. Not sure I would go back.

First time here, picked based on reviews. They didn't disappoint. We had lasagna and eggplant parm. Both were delicious. Eggplant was thin and cooked perfectly. Fresh pasta was fantastic. Justin our server was very nice and took good care of us. Ambiance was fine and typical for north end restaurants. read more

Went here with some friends for dinner on a Friday night. Thankfully we had a reservation because the place is small and it was definitely packed. The staff was really friendly and provided us with menu recommendations. I ended up going with the gnocchi pesto because it's been a while since I've had fresh gnocchi but I really glad I got it. It has the perfect creamy pesto sauce and wasn't overpoweringly garlicky how pesto sometimes can be. I also got a glass of sangria which was nice (we tried to get a bottle because it said you could on the menu but our waiter informed us this was not possible). Overall I thought the food and service were great but the space itself is a bit tight and can make it hard to hear people sitting a few seats down if it's packed. We went to modern after which was very convenient as it's only a few shops down the street. read more

Three years later and still satisfied. Found myself back in Boston on a work trip and visited the North End for a few of those nights. Casarecce still hits. We went with a small group and decided to go family style - got the gnocchi dish, bolognese, veal special, calamari, and a few other appetizers to share around. Really solid, rustic, stuff your face Italian food. Plenty of North End restaurants have cheapened up since the pandemic, (you'll find dry, store bought pasta at a few more now) but not here. All the pastas made in house, bolognese sauce was so savory, and the veal was very, very good. Based on my last visit and what I saw being served around there's definitely some standouts on the menu you should be going for - veal specials, raviolis, bolognese, and the gnocchis. Calamari was some of the best I've had. Light, well seasoned, good crisp. Walk in here and you'll be leaving happy. Prompt service. Finally, homemade bread. It slaps. read more

Amazing! The best pasta I've had in the north end in years. Fun fact: There's been a noticeable dip in a lot of neighboring restaurants. Cute, quaint restaurant nestled in Little Italy of Boston's North End. Gorgeous, small and romantic dining room for patrons to enjoy an eclectic wine menu and delectable pasta. Casarecce's big selling point is the handmade/hand rolled pasta on site- can confirm, pasta is fresh and amazing. First time trying pappardelle pasta and id say it was great tossed in the Alfredo sauce (marscapone cream w Parmesan) easily best Alfredo sauce I've ever had. Ever!!! I usually need to add salt /pepper to the sauce but this came out ready to be enjoyed. Flavor profile was perfect. Warm, buttery creamy goodness. Service was inviting, waiters are proud of their establishment. I felt a warm welcome coming here. My parents would like to add that their lasagna bolognese was divine. I took a bite, and it was a warm, tangy elixir as a bolognese sauce should be. read more

What a find in the north end. You can't go wrong here. Authentic Italian with knowledge and attentive service.

I tried this restaurant based on the yelp rating, but have to wonder if many of the glowing reviews were fabricated. Our experience was mediocre at best, and overall disappointing. Our service was just ok, as another user posted, and the glasses and floor were dirty. The wine pours were stingy, especially given the price per glass. I had the casarecce sausage and broccoli rapi and my mom had the shrimp scampi. The pasta was fresh and the portion sizes decent, but we both found our dishes to be underwhelming and lacking flavor. To the point where it made chain Italian restaurant food restaurant seem like haute cuisine. The cost was a little over $100 for two pasta dishes and four glasses of wine (without tip). Perhaps they have some specialties that are worth the trip, but otherwise I would look elsewhere (and be sure to dig a little deeper through the reviews first). read more
