This was my second time going to Casa Tequila. The first time was a couple of years ago for a birthday dinner, and we decided to repeat that tradition this year. As far as service goes, it was just okay. It took quite a long time to receive our drinks and also to get the check at the end. While it wasn't a huge deal since we had plans afterward, we definitely felt like we were waiting longer than necessary. After finishing our meal, we waited at least 15 minutes for the check. Again, not the end of the world, but worth noting in case management sees this. The food itself was pretty fantastic. The chips and salsa were great and tasted very fresh. The salsa was especially good, so credit where it's due. We ordered the molcajete with an extra side of rice. While it was tasty, it was disappointing portion-wise. There was only one thin slice of chicken and one thin slice of steak, along with some chorizo. The thin portions made the dish feel overpriced. I've had molcajetes at many other Mexican restaurants, and usually they'll at least double the chicken if they're lighter on the steak. If you're ordering this expecting to be full, just know that you may not be. I compared these pics to the video I took in 2023. In 2023, this meal also included a scoop of sour cream, a scoop of guacamole, and pico de gallo on the side. This time our meal didn't include any of this. Also, in 2022 the molcajete included two slices of steak. So I definitely stand by the value has definitely decreased over the years. Flavor-wise, everything was very good. I enjoyed the meal, but we did end up grabbing something small afterward because the portion was pretty light. With the slower service, I also didn't feel inclined to order anything additional or extend our wait any longer. The drinks were pretty good overall. We ordered a skinny margarita and a mojito. It did take quite a while for them to reach our table. The mojito was just okay, but the skinny margarita was honestly one of the best I've ever had. I was pretty shocked when we received the bill and saw an automatic 18% gratuity applied to a party of two. That felt very odd, especially since I was planning to tip more. It left a sour taste in my mouth, particularly because this was a Sunday night around 9:00 p.m. What made it worse is that this policy isn't posted anywhere on the website or on the menu. If management is going to charge an automatic gratuity for parties of two, that information should be clearly printed and visible. While the food was good, I'm rating this place three out of five stars. Between the automatic gratuity and food portions that didn't quite justify the price, the overall experience fell short. I understand that times are tough for restaurants, but as customers we're also paying close attention to where our money is going, and value matters. Skimping off the top and bottom is going to lead to a decrease in return customers. It wasn't my choice to come here, and I'm not sure I would choose to return on my own suggestion. read more

This place is SO good. We randomly stumbled upon it and best decision I've made. This is hands down the best Mexican food I've had in Chicago and maybe even ever. It was such a good time too. We sat at the bar and Tony made some great recommendations, walked us through the menu, and was just the best. He was very sweet and the mojito he made was also delicious. They serve complimentary chips and salsa before your meal and the chips are so fresh. All the ingredients are very fresh too. They make all their drinks with fresh fruit and the food just tastes so different and delicious. As a vegetarian, there were also so many options. I was in Casa Tequia for Cinco and it was truly a bizarre experience. Firstly, we made a reservation for four and still had to wait for close to 45 mins for our table to be ready. On top of that, people continually flooded the front doors for the entirety of that time leading to a sea of people just kind of standing around. The hostess then decided to LOCK THE DOOR, so people were screaming on the streets and knocking on the doors and inevitably let in by other folks. Very unorganized. From there, once we finally did get seated, we had to ask for water, did not get brought napkins or silverware (even after asking twice AND after our entrees came out - eventually we got them) and like I get that the restaurant was busy, but it was just really poor service. With everyone other than our server being rude to us simply for being there. The mango margarita was pretty good, I would order again on the patio this summer. I went to Casa Tequila on Division in Chicago with three friends after seeing several TikTok reviews raving about the food. The atmosphere was nice and the food itself was good but unfortunately, not nearly good enough to justify the price. Our bill came out to $435, which included a nacho appetizer, a tomahawk steak dinner (for the birthday guest), a ribeye steak dinner that was shared between two people, a three-steak taco dinner, margaritas for everyone, and sides of rice and beans. We were also charged a huge automatic gratuity. Everything is served à la carte, with tacos, rice, and beans all charged separately. The salsa and pico portions were very small, and refills were slow and minimal. I ordered the Dragon Fruit Margarita. While it tasted good, for $20 I expected a full glass. What really sealed the experience for me was the service. When my credit card initially declined because it was locked, the server threw my card back on the table after running it. I tried not to react, but it came across as rude and unprofessional. I don't mind paying for quality, but in today's economy, value matters. I was happy they had one open table left as I walked in. I had the grilled chicken salad and added steak. It was so flavorful and grilled to perfection. Casa Tequila is so absolutely underrated. Maybe sure, they don't have wild lights and stuff like some other places on the block, but honestly that's not for me anyway. Entering the restaurant, you're greeted warmly by a host and see the immaculately dressed staff wearing some fancy aprons like they just got to work from auditioning for The Bear. The whole environment is classic Chicago Mexican; hand-carved wooden chairs, beautiful decorations, and a seriously stocked bar. For an extra $1.50, you can add a fresh fruit flavor to the house margarita. I recommend not missing this. The flavor imparted to through the healing power of fresh fruit really sets your margarita off right. The complimentary house salsa is absolutely perfect as well! The portions are enormous, the food is incredible, and there are so many options for folks with dietary restrictions! GF, Keto, Vegan, Vegetarian, Pescatarian, etc, there is absolutely something for you here. So now let's talk about service. Chris was our waiter and he was just a joyous human! My group came in on a Friday preparing to move furniture the next day to celebrate our friends buying a new home. A must try! I was served complimentary chips with homemade salsa as soon as I sat down, which began my fantastic experience. They also brought water for me and my dog (we were sitting on the patio), and greeted us both with a welcoming smile and a pet for the dog. The quesabirria tacos were out of this world! Perfectly crisp shell, tender and deliciously shredded beef, and the Consommé was so flavorful, I couldn't get enough! When the server came to check on my and refill my water, he also checked on my dog's bowl, which I always appreciate! Check this place out. Their service and food is definitely worth a visit. My wife and I stopped into Casa Tequila on a Monday, right when it opened for lunch. We hadn't been before and had been hoping to try it. The staff was kind and attentive. We wrapped up lunch in about 45 mins, the chips and salsa was good, my wife liked the fish tacos, but I thought that the three taco plate was just ok. I ate half the chicken taco and all of the two beef tacos but the meat seemed room temp, so I assumed they didn't run the food out right away, even though we only had to wait 10 mins for our food. 15 hours later I was vomiting and worse. Now, I know food positioning is very hard to prove, and accusing a business of mishandling food (or employees wash habits) is absolutely nothing to take lightly. My wife was fine, she and I had the same breakfast, same dinner, and the only meal that was different that day between the two of us was at Casa Tequila. Not a stomach bug, this was quick and awful. I went to Urgent Care and they confirmed if it was a stomach bug then I'd be vomiting for days, not hours in a single day. Hours of being sick, followed by days of recovery and missed work, I couldn't NOT write this review. I don't want anyone to experience what I did after visiting this establishment. I called the restaurant two days after the meal, asking to speak with a manager. I complimented the staff, said my wife liked her meal, but explained what happened. Without naming names I spoke to two helpful gents, and I appreciated their candor. I told them I was calling to let them know, and not asking anyone to confirm it on their side, I know that's not how it works. They took my info, read back my number and said, hey the owner might not even call you back, just so you know. Again, I appreciate their candor, but I was still disappointed when management decided not to follow up with me. I thought this was going to be a hard review to write, but when the management never called me back after over a week, it made it a lot easier. Head to the restaurant and enjoy if you like, but keep this review in mind (and the tacos) if you do, it might save you a lot of misery. read more

I visited this place on my birthday with my boyfriend. We got seated immediately. My partner excused himself to the bathroom as soon as we got seated, he was not feeling well and spent around 15 minutes in the bathroom. During this time the staff continued to check on me and made sure to fill my water and chips. After my boyfriend got out of the bathroom, we told the waiter that we had to go because my boyfriend was feeling extremely unwell, I mentioned that it was my birthday and I apologized for "wasting " their time. We showed up and were immediately greeted with a happy smile and a comment "Happy to see you come back so quickly!" We placed our order and it was delicious! Well, they do not accept reservations for parties smaller than 5 so, we walked in and was seated immediately on a Saturday evening. Parking is scarce in the area as there are several restaurants on Division but after circling once we found a park. Apps--we order Queso Fundio-- it was spicy and just blah. Other couple order the sampler. It was a variety of small offerings (quesadillas, flauntas. Etc) I watched them pick over it so I assume it wasn't that good. Drinks- we ordered the Kiwi Mojito- after the terrible margaritas we had when seated. The mojitos were lught n refreshing but didn't wow us. We all ordered Margaritas to start and I was surprised how super sweet they were. We ordered it frozen but, it tasted like like a kool-aid drink with pureed fruit poured in it. Neither of us ordered another drink. Food- I and another member of my party ordered Quesa birria tacos- they came 3 per order and although the presentation was nice, they lacked seasoning and flavor. The meat was plentiful but because the taco was not seasoned and had very little cheese, it missed the mark. The consume didn't help them. I was disappointed!! My friend ordered the pineapple fajitas and she said it was just ok. My husband had pork and steak tacos with rice and beans that were mushy and dry. He described his food as "just mid" and if he wanted Mexican again, he wouldn't think of this place. I enjoyed my double date, however Casa Tequila was not a good pick. I went here for dinner the other day. This is a relatively new spot in the area. Upon walking in, it felt like they had spent quite a bit on building this place out. It has all custom flooring and each seat has fancy embroidered logos and all. I think the booth was a bit tight. I was also a bit surprised that the place was quite empty. A few more people sis come in while we were there, though. By the time we left, I'd say there were like 7-8 tables seated. The service was just ok. I mean, it was kind of slow. Our waiter was a nice guy. He tried to accommodate as much as possible. For example, they did switch the TV near us to the college football championship game since I asked. For example though, we ordered enchiladas and they came out warm. The cheese hasn't even melted - it seemed like they had rushed it. Also we asked to try a hotter salsa, and they charged us extra for this. It wasn't great, btw. One of those salsas that's too spicy and not one that tastes great. I did mix some in with the regular salsa for some added kick. Overall, the pricing here is pretty - it's probably just a sign of the times. In terms of food, we had bean tostada's, which they were able to accommodate and make a la carte, because they had them as part of a combo, but they were nowhere to be seen by themselves. The tostada's were decent. Really good amount of ingredients and nicely made. I think somehow there was a bit of lacking when it comes to flavor. Maybe it's the cheese or maybe the beans needed a bit more. Back to the enchiladas. One of the people I was with just ate them as they came. I ate one, but then asked for them to be warmed up more. It did make a difference, so I'm glad I asked, but still unclear as to why this wasn't previously done. My opinion might've been different if the enchiladas has been done right the first time. They had a number of vegetarian options, which is nice and they also have an elaborate bar, and so maybe they're just too new and figuring out some of the details.
