It was getting late a few weeks ago and we decided to give Tequila Jalisco a try. We arrived and…read morewere seated pretty quickly since it was towards the tail end of the dinner rush. It was a mostly relaxed atmosphere when we got there but they were playing a bunch of distracting music videos. We ordered a couple of drinks, two margaritas: one mango one passion fruit. But we tried each other's drinks and to be honest we couldn't tell the difference between the two since they tasted identical. Our waitress, who was nice and did a good job, brought over some chips and salsa, which was pretty good and we ordered the more deluxe version of their guacamole. Unfortunately, we noticed the consistency of the guacamole tasted like it was prepackaged since it had that prepackaged consistency. A bit disappointing because it was 10 dollars or so. We ordered an enchilada, shrimp tacos, and I ordered the Jalisco feast. The enchilada was alright but sort of bland. The shrimp tacos came with beans and the Jalisco feast came with rice and beans. The beans were a bit salty but I didn't mind to much cause I prefer more salt than not. The shrimp tacos had plain mayo on them which was a bit odd as we both thought Chipotle mayo or something similar would have been better. The Jalisco feast was alright but half the meat was kind of dry and the steak was cut so thin, I've seen thicker pieces of cheese. The shrimp was the best part of the Jalisco feast. The slasa was hot but decent and the Pico de gallo was alright. I have to say I wasn't too impressed with this place, especially for the price. There's not too many Mexican restaurants in the immediate area so if you're really craving it, it might satisfy your craving but elsewise I wasn't the biggest fan. I struggle with the rating to give this place. I really don't care for a 5 star ratings system because I would rate this place between a 5 out of 10, which would be a 2.5 out of 5. But since I can't select 2.5 I rounded up to a 3. It wasn't bad food and the service was alright but the food wasn't anything special, generally middle of the road in terms of quality.

To make matters worse, my son ordered the beef and cheese nachos, and the beef looked exactly like ground-up dog food. Total waste of money and a really gross meal. Avoid this place.

This stretch of…read moreSchenectady offers some diverse family-owned restaurants - Pakistani, El Salvadorian, Jamaican, etc., to name a few. In this case, the cuisine offered at Los Chamos is Venezuelan. Upon entering the establishment, I noticed a music/karaoke machine in the front corner. Tables were interspersed in the main area which surrounded a bar and ordering station. A preteen sat at one of the tables, playing on her phone. A young man worked the ordering station. Early on a Saturday afternoon, noticing a fridge with beers displayed, I ordered a Modelo and looked through the menu. I ordered a Chile Colorado and empanadas con pollo to go. Two things right off the bat - 1. First taste - It was good food. It was satisfying in a way that spoke of generational recipes rather than or despite culinary training. It is soul satisfying stuff. 2. If you can finish this meal in one sitting, good on you! Generous portions and the heartiness of the meal add to the "warmth" of the experience. A couple of details - the mayonnaise-based sauce for the empanadas was something I'd never tried before - lots of garlic, cilantro, a bit of water to loosen it, maybe some vinegar for acid...I liked it. The braised black beans had a little chili heat to liven it up. I'll definitely go back. I may not be fluent in Spanish or be knowledgeable about Venezuela but I find the food to be inviting and soulful.

The Point, I think refers to where the cafe is situated, at the point (or corner) of the street. From the outside, it could use some curb appeal. The waitress took her time getting over and took our order, walked over to the computer to send it to the kitchen. I can't even begin to tell you how magical my breakfast was! More menu items for a slightly cheaper price, sign me up. I did order the huevos rancheros...twice. I guess I liked them. Menu states the huevos rancheros consists of "2 eggs over easy, over fried corn tortillas, topped with homemade salsa and Mexican cheese. Served with refried beans and rice." The first time, they added sliced avocados. The second time...nada. Hey, they used what was available. I also adore that dining out sometimes can get one out of a funk. Sometimes, I get so used to routine and habit that even a restaurant dish that is slightly out of my wheelhouse can get me thinking, acting, and appreciating things a bit more. If you're looking for breakfast/brunch that offers more options, no need to go further than the Point.

The advertising sign at the front of the restaurant highlights pupuseria and Latino food. OK,…read morethat's what I ordered. Pupusa - El Salvadorian specialty - griddled corn masa cake. Other ingredients like cheese, beans, greens, and/or meats are mixed into the masa and cooked on a flattop until crisp on the outside. Since the "mixins" are varied, these are made to order. I had a Revuelta (queso, chicharron, beans) and a queso loroco (flower bud of a vine which grows in Central America). The tastiest portion for me were the almost burnt caramelized cheese bits on the outside of the pupusa. Honestly, the loroco was more of a textural component rather than a taste. It seemed mild. I'm sure they were canned. I don't think loroco grows around this area. The pupusas were served with a cabbage slaw (curtido) and a light tomato salsa. Pernil - a marinated pork shoulder, slow roasted until tender then usually blasted with high heat to render crispy skin (cuero). Slow roasted tender pork - yes. Rendered crispy skin - no. The generous portions of yellow rice and refried black beans rounded out the meal. One thing I noticed, the refried beans had a very slight sour note, vinegar or age, I don't know. I still ate them. No ill effects. Conclusion: I'd go again.

When our server came back she brought our drinks along with salsa and chips. I had the ceviche, supreme nachos, poquito chimichangas and the beef tacos. It was all very good. However, getting the servers attention throughout the night was not the easiest. It started to get dark so we asked our server if she would turn on additional lighting on the patio as well as light the tiki torches so we wouldn't get bitten by bugs. She said sure of course and disappeared. Eventually the lights came on but no tiki torches were lit. Also when it came time to get the bill it took a very long time to get it taken care of. All in all I do not recommend sitting outside as I feel as if you are just forgotten once your food is brought to you. Should you need anything else it will be a long while before anyone comes to your table.
