Most of all, what I really appreciated with every bite is that I wanted more and that it was so unique compared to anything else that I had ever tried. I thought the tasting menu was a really good deal, but you should also consider booking just a la carte because everything was so solid. You can tell when the chips served alongside the guacamole are so delicious and so unique that the rest of the meal is going to be incredible. I will say that it did seem slightly understaffed. Our waiters did the best they could, but dinner took longer than expected. It was still a great experience for both those on dates and those there with friends!

I loved all the sauces that they give to each table that I couldn't decide which one I liked more. The drinks were very good as well. We got the deconstructed margarita and I really enjoyed it as well as the pina colada cocktail. Service was a bit on the slower side but to be fair, there weren't many people working the tables. Also one of our dishes got served to the wrong table and then never came :( definitely wanna come back to try the tuna tartare which was the dish that didn't get delivered.

The tacos were the size of a poker chip topped with microscopic scraps of steak that looked like someone swept them off the grill with a dustpan. The chips and salsa situation was performance art. They brought out exactly 14 chips (yea - I counted) alongside ~2 tablespoons of salsa. I've gotten more complimentary food samples at Costco on a Saturday afternoon. The carnitas somehow managed to be both dry and flavorless, which honestly feels harder to accomplish than making them good. At one point my angry fiancée looked at me like this was somehow my fault for picking the place, so we eventually gave up and walked to the food truck around the corner for actual tacos that tasted like they wanted us to survive the night. TLDR; overpriced, don't go here. I will say, the ambience is great, though- it's a shame

I also noticed a projector on the ceiling and some large speakers so I'm wondering if Mexi is also an event space? We sat in a half table booth in the back but there is bar seating as well. The cocktail menus are SO CUTE. They're large cards (pictured) held together by a ring and are designed to look like lotería cards. My boyfriend got a spicy mezcal margarita which he enjoyed but we both agreed my drink, El Cantante, was the winner of the two. The mango juice was super refreshing yet somehow the drink wasn't too sweet for me. We were served quickly. For a bite we decided on chips and salsa. The roasted peanut matcha seemed interesting. Well, I did enjoy it, I really wish there was a menu option to get all three sources in the slightly larger serving of chips for a reduced price. I'm sure we could've ordered all three for the listed menu price, but this definitely would've appeal to me more as I think this also would've been nice to balance with a more traditional "chips and dip" salsa. The chips seemed to be homemade and were well done. Grabbing the check to make it to the subway was easy as it wasn't busy when we were there. Would love to come here again as everything else on the menu and cocktail list looks fantastic!

Tuesday early evening, we were the only ones in the restaurant and honestly, that's everyone else's lost. The restaurant is fairly large and can seat a good number of ppl. We chose to sit outside since it was a nice weather day. We ordered the Al pastor HH tacos, paired with the Chicken taquitos, and lastly the Arrachera skirt steak. The taco tortilla was nice and thin. My toddler wanted more! The Chicken Taquitos was crunchy, and easy to eat. Lastly, the steak was super flavorful. I almost prefer it without the sauce. The refried beans and potatoes were a nice companion to the steak. I left satiated and definitely will come back!

My favorite dish here is probably the mussels, great flavor and would probably go well with a glass of wine! The portions here are huge as well so I think for the price its very worth it. The second you walk in, you feel transported. The whole space is beautifully curated and feels like a Michelin-level cocktail bar collided with a Mexico City street food spot in the best possible way. It has personality, energy, and that rare "experience" factor that so many places try to manufacture but almost never pull off. The mocktails were seriously impressive--not an afterthought at all, but truly at the level of a craft cocktail program. I got the strawberry mule, and it had an incredible depth of flavor: refreshing, layered, balanced, and just genuinely delicious. For food, we ordered the guacamole and chips, esquites, zucchini blossom quesadilla, mushroom pibil tostada, shrimp tacos, and birria tacos. Everything was top notch, but the esquites absolutely stole the show. Everyone at the table kept going back for more. Even the chips tasted incredibly fresh, which tells you a lot about the attention to detail here. The rest of the meal was just as strong--beautifully plated, packed with flavor, and clearly made with care. Every dish felt like its own little flavor journey. The tacos were rich and satisfying, the mushroom dishes had real depth, and nothing felt one-note or thrown together. Service was also excellent: friendly, attentive, and on point without being overbearing. The whole dinner felt smooth from start to finish. If you're in Williamsburg, walking the Kent Ave waterfront, or looking for a spot before or after hanging around that part of Brooklyn, The Cactus Shop is absolutely worth it. Great atmosphere, standout mocktails, creative Mexican-inspired food, and a genuinely memorable dinner.
