The Doñia Maria enchiladas plate was very good. Friendly service. Was surprise be slow it was there mid afternoon. Pretty reasonable prices and good portion. Nice tasting salsa too.

Love me some Enchiladas Tejanas from Maria's. Two beef enchiladas covered in red sauce and queso; tender carne guisada, rice, beans and freshly made flour tortillas. That's about as good as Tex Mex gets. Also loved the barbacoa plate with corn tortillas. Tasty on a Sunday morning. Service is friendly and fast.

Great place! I was a little nervous because of the other bad reviews on here.. but My husband came for the menudo. I had pozole and the kids shared a plate of chorizo. The meals were fantastic! Nothing was spicy only spiced with delicious seasonings. The restaurant is ran by all Mexican women and every one of them were so sweet to all of us! Very spacious restaurant and very clean!

Oh how I wish I could show Casa Maria more love. Oh how I wish my experience mirrored the majority of Yelpers here..but sad to say mine did not and I do not see myself returning to Casa Maria anytime soon. I will start by saying nothing was bad by any means, the food and service were okay, I didn't experience any issues or problems. What I did experience was a lackluster and unmemorably generic lunch. Walking in I was greeted, shown to a table, and provided a menu. While waiting for water, chips, and salsa I looked over the menu to decide what I'd be trying. Sadly breakfast/breakfast tacos were no longer available so I settled on cheese enchiladas. After a rather lengthy wait, my enchiladas arrived...a rather plain and small portion of cheese enchiladas. Having seen these were $14 on the menu and seeing what was delivered I assumed this must be a lunch portion/special that I hadn't seen on the menu-then the bill arrived: NOPE! It was $14 for what I had received which was not worth what I was charged. Service was passable, server was friendly but there was not only the aformentioned lengthy wait for food but for every interaction that took place. Water refill. Getting my check. Paying my check. I spent more time waiting for things than I actually did eating anything. All things considered I don't foresee myself returning to Casa Maria anytime soon. With so many Mexican options in Austin, why would I subject myself to a passable-at-best experience again? Next time, I'll try somewhere else.

I've driven by El Alma many times being in the Austin area, but I never went until last Thursday, and after surviving a brief monsoon, I was glad to get a few drinks and eat some good TexMex with my large party just before a wedding. The best way to describe El Alma is that it is TexMex that is Austinified. Everything feels a little more unique and special than your classic TexMex options. I started off with a Mezcal Margarita that put a little hair on my chest and got me going. My group ordered two of their Nachitos, which were these nice nachos. For my main entrée, I got 3 Al Pastor tacos on corn with a side of their rice and beans. Their pastor was served with pineapples, onions, and cilantro with limes on the side. They were great and I immediately crushed them all. I thought their rice and beans were pretty good as well and a step above the typical TexMex rice and beans. The server was pretty attentive throughout our whole visit, and I honestly have no complaints about what they had to offer. Pricing on the meal and drinks was pretty standard for Austin, and I didn't think anything really took me out of the experience. On top of that, for being in Barton Springs, there is quite a bit of parking. I would love to come back at some point in the future and hang out on their rooftop bar because that seems like a lot of fun. Shoutout to El Alma for being a TexMex oasis saving me from the MoPac traffic. RIYL: TexMex, but better than your average

As I was leaving my hotel I bumped into some coworkers outside and mentioned I was heading here for dinner. A person passing by overheard me and stopped to rave about how they're the best tacos you can get in Texas. The speakeasy feel was awesome and relatively easy to find despite this being my first visit to Austin. I had the carne asada tacos and they were delicious. I also ordered a side of chips and salsa but my weak tastebuds embarassingly couldn't handle the spice. Seating was limited but I was carrying out anyways. Will definitely return when I'm back in Austin!

Everything was seriously delicious, rich, and flavorful. The meat was juicy and tender, and they were very generous with the portions. If all the seats inside are taken inside the restaurant, you can dine in the bar area or outside in the alley. This taco speakeasy spot is so good, we came back the next day with our friends. We will definitely be back in the future!

So we were thinking of tacos or Mexican food and my daughter suggested this spot as she had come here with some friends and really enjoyed their sopecitos. I had never had a sopecito! What is that! So we had to try... We were lucky to arrive at the right time (9 pm!) where we got their last table!! Make reservations or something because this is another one of those places that fills up! So- we were taken care of immediately: chips and some very hot salsas were set on the table while we chose. They menu is in QR code format, but we asked and got paper menus as well. Well I got the chicken sopecitos , my daughter got the pork ones and my partner got the meat tacos. Everything was delicious, the food arrived promptly, the portion size was perfect and bountiful and everything was super enjoyable. I really enjoyed trying some New Mexican favorites. Next time I will try some other delicacies since I always get tacos tacos burritos or quesadillas: time for some new items on the menu! Enjoy!
