context, we had a long drive from Houston to McAllen and were really looking forward to our stop at Casa Madre. It was one of the must-try places for our group, so expectations were high. Unfortunately, the experience did not match the hype. Service: Our drinks took a long time to arrive. My agua de Jamaica showed up before the water I asked for. A friend ordered a flavored water that did not arrive until much later, and when it finally did, the presentation did not match everyone else's. When we asked, another waiter brushed it off with "es la pura ilusión óptica," which felt dismissive and unnecessary. Our server kept disappearing, and every time we asked for something, he walked away before the rest of the table could say anything. Simple things like refills and extra utensils took more than one reminder. Food: The salsa arrived late and needed salt. A friend's molcajete never stopped boiling. It was so hot she kept burning herself trying to eat it. One shrimp was even stuck to the molcajete. I ordered the papa asada featured on their TikTok, since it was not on the menu. The physical menu is outdated and the QR did not load because the WiFi and signal were both poor. What I received was basically mashed potatoes stuffed inside a potato shell. Not horrible, not great, just okay. I also asked for chives and specifically wanted the green part. I was served the thick white bulb pieces instead. Not the end of the world, but in Texas most places get this right, so it stood out. Atmosphere and logistics: We did not have a reservation, and it definitely showed. The energy from the staff made it feel like we were an inconvenience. The WiFi was bad and the cell signal was not any better, which matters when the menu is QR only. The payment terminals were down. It was not a major issue, but it made checkout less smooth than expected. Management presence: Several staff members and managers eventually came to the table, which made it obvious they knew service was off. Still, no one asked how things were going. They were mostly dropping items off. Overall: Overhyped and overpriced for the experience we had. The food was not the worst, but nothing justified the wait or the prices. Honestly, the best part of the visit was the laughter we shared over how chaotic the whole experience was. Casa Madre has potential, but our visit missed the mark.

This was our first time at this restaurant. We saw it on TikTok. My wife and I decided to drive down to Mc Allen 4 hours drive when we got there our waiter seen ok I ordered the molcajete imperial but I had them modified from the porterhouse to wagyu steak . There was an increase on the price which I didn't care . My wife got the arranchera wagyu steak . So while we where waiting my wife and I were already having second thoughts of just paying for what we had consumed and just go next door to the Brazilian steak house but then I told my wife let me just see if they were able to modify my food because the waiter never came back so the manager came by and I told her that we wanted to pay for what we consumed and leave because the waiter was horrible and our food was probably not worth the money or the drive . So she responded, give me a chance to serve you and you won't be disappointed with the food . please give me the opportunity to give you a great experience. So because of Isela Martínez. We decided to stay and had a great experience our food was amazingly delicious . We will be back.

The food is amazing!! Definitely worth your money, it's very delicious and very filling. You won't leave unsatisfied as well as their drinks and deserts. The salmon with chipotle sauce I believe, is absolutely amazing and must try! As well as the enchiladas rojas. The service was alright, nothing bad, but the food and atmosphere definitely make up for it! Enjoyed my visit!

Came for a friend's birthday around 1:30, it took around 20mins to get seated for a party of 4. Restaurant atmosphere is nice looks clean and cool inside. Our waiter took a bit to finally come take our drink order and was "ok" at best in the beginning was slightly better in the end so overall service was subpar. The girls ordered the strawberry lemonades which were really good (and only $5) - tasted more like limeade. We got 2 apps and 3 entrees. Got the quest flamadeo with steak - ended up being my favorite piece of meal. We also got the guac which was a awesome presentation and looked like a ton, however, unfortunately it was made to look big using a bunch of lettuce which am personally not a fan of with my guacamole. For the entrees we got two tapaquenia plates and a chipotle shrimp plate (...something like that...). Wife changed the enchiladas on the tapaq. plate to Suizas she said they were good but a little dry. Black refried beans and the rice were good, it also came with some nopales casserole thing which I liked. Fajitas were good too. Chipotle shrimp plate was supposedly great. We got an alcoholic drink too, was too strong and only taste like liquor. The free dessert for birthday was pretty big and looked great, the show they put on to sing happy birthday was over the top but pretty cool if you want to get some pics (have a whole little plaque with your name on it). Was a good new try but no big desire to go back. - oh price wasn't as bad as was expecting (~$180w/tip)

Came here on a Sunday at 2pm. Too late for breakfast menu. Nice restaurant, loud music. A lot of people doing birthdays. Ordered Tampiquenia. Beef fajitas plus 2 chicken enchiladas (mole and green sauce) Very flavorful. Definitely recommend this place.

Fist time in this restaurant and not impressed food is average and expensive and the service not great It took a long time to serve the food and the place is very noisy

    Mac & Cheese

Really? This steak looks like one I could get at chili's. Actually I prefer the one at chili's instead. Its bathed in butter and it was over cooked. I asked for medium and it came almost well done. The seasoning or marinade is leaning more toward like a chorizo type taste. Probably one of the worse steaks I've tasted. Now, the mac n cheese is a true disappointment. I paid 120$ for my wife and I. The rib-eye was 50$. For that price I didn't expect to get a side of kiddy mac n cheese. Thats laughable for an "upscale joint" located inside the mall. The chips were stale and old and hard. The bread was old and hard as well. My wifes enchiladas were dipped in red salsa and lacking in taste. Her food and my mashed potatoes were cold. I would say its not worth the money they charge. Im glad I didnt get the high dollar tomahawk because then I probably would've been upset. Im not angry now but I am dissatisfied. There really isnt a real place of this sort to get great food that doesn't disappoint for the price. I feel the same way about Palominos. The service was great. The place looks clean and very upscale. Ultimately, the food for the price is very subpar. Try it for yourself and dont take my word for it. The rating for this place is three stars on here and thats fairly accurate to the total experience. I would give it one star for food and overall 2 stars. Sorry.

A little surprised by all the poor reviews. While it wasn't incredible, I didn't think it was that bad. I will admit that our experience might not relate to others because we had a group of 20 in a private room and a custom made menu. We had roughly 5-6 servers assigned to our group which made a big difference. As we sat down, the brought multiple starters which included guacamole with pork rinds, spicy potatoes, bread, and tortillas with a meat/cheese. The appetizers and dessert were probably better than the entrees but nothing was horrible. For my meal, I had the ribeye which included mashed potatoes and asparagus. I felt it was cooked properly and the portions were more than enough for the price point. The dessert was delicious and fresh. The cart is a fun way to present all the options and definitely makes you want to order one. We had a few birthdays in our group and they made that a fun celebration with sparklers, hats, signs, a saxophone, and singing. Overall, for a company Christmas party, we had s great night. The service was friendly and attentive and the food was more than enough for the price. The entrees were more average than what we expected from this type of atmosphere but nothing horrible.

Well, my experience here was horrible with the food, it's super expensive, but the price is the least when the food is delicious, the waitresses are too friendly and attentive, but the food is horrible. The place is beautiful and very instagrammable, but super expensive and super ugly food.

The place is very busy, but despite that the wait was only 10 minutes at 10:00 am on a Saturday. The hostess and our server were both very friendly. The place advertises that it specializes in home cooked comfort foods so we figured we'd have to see how their biscuits and gravy were. We ordered a 1/2 order and it came with a biscuit split in half and covered with gravy and sausage. The flavor was perfect - it definitely lived up to 'home cooked comfort food'. I ordered an omelette - three cheeses, sausage, bacon and ham with onions, cilantro and jalapeños - which came with refried (black) beans. The omelette was very good - flavorful and fresh. They actually use slices of cheese inside and on top - I've never had an omelette prepared that way but it was very good. When I first tasted the salsa I was not a fan - it was warm and had a different flavor - then I put it on the omelette and - great pairing and great flavor combo. The refried black beans were sadly underwhelming - no real flavor. I know they were homemade but they were missing the flavor that usually comes with refried beans (black or pinto) My wife had the quiche which had onions, peppers, sausage, mushrooms and cheese. It was very good. Even the crust was good. She ordered the breakfast potatoes as the side. The flavor of the potatoes was excellent. Half of them were lightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside which were great; the other half were overcooked and became potato chips - good flavor but not a breakfast potato. We will definitely come back to try their lunch food and dessert (we were too full today). They have a good variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner items on the menu so there is something for everyone. We were glad we stopped in.

Fantastic food, great environment to eat in and welcoming staff. Breakfast: both the works omelet and migas were great (especially with the added salsa). 1000% get the fruit. The dip they provide is of similar idea to that which Jason's deli gives. With the primary difference that this one makes Jason's seem entirely inadequate. Lunch: The chicken Parmesan is an excellent choice, I got pasta instead of potatoes. It was a very healthy portion and filled me up. Even the veggies it comes with are properly seasoned and cooked. We all ordered something different with the goal of being able to taste more of the menu. The menu is a well-rounded Southern American selection, and all of it is made in-house. It was a nice touch with the newspaper like menu, loved the decor and cabin home theme. The side salad was fresh; however, the house-made ranch was too creamy and too thick. There was potential with the cooked bacon mixed in, but the ranch flavor was missing. The cup of chili was great, similar to Wendy's chili if you needed a comparison. My meatloaf was good; the added carrots and topped crispy onions weren't too bad; however, the drizzled brown gravy was a no for me. The side of creamy grits and green beans and bacon were gobbled up! The cornbread muffins were a bit dry. Side of hash browns were good, a little on the oily side. The biscuit and gravy were colossal! Loved the gravy; the biscuits were a bit too doughy, almost seemed a bit undercooked, and for some reason, there seemed to be a lack of flavor in them. Enjoyed the ham and eggs. The pot roast dish was savory, and everything was nice; the veggies were a little over-seasoned, but I didn't mind them. The chicken-fried steak plate was a hit, I didn't even get a chance to take a solo photo. We had no room for desserts, and leftovers were taken home and appreciated. I'd like to add, despite ordering the larger versions of these meals, we only paid $68 and some change! The place was clean, the wait time was commendable, and the service was incredible!!! My friend had the enchiladas suizas. I ordered the chilaquiles rojas con pollo. The menu warned that the salsa roja is spicy... and they are right. I like spicy, and this gave me the hiccups! Not to worry, they have several options, including mild ones. I was impressed with their molcajete of guacamole, the refreshing strawberry lemonade, the classy presentation of each dish. I almost ordered the chile relleno or the torta ahogada. I learned they make their own birote (a denser kind of bread roll) for the torta ahogadas, which is key for that dish hailing from Jalisco, which is smothered in salsa prior to serving.
