On a recent trip to McAllen Tx we visited this restaurant for a late lunch. The restaurant was not very busy and we were seated quickly. It is located in the mall but has its own entrance. The restaurant is beautiful. The host was welcoming but the overall service wasn't great. Once we were seated by the host we waited 30 minutes for someone to notice us. We only stayed because our kids were calm and we were mainly going to experience the restaurant. I assume it was the manager who noticed us because she came and asked if our order was taken and we told her no one had even come over to introduce themselves or bring drinks. She sent someone over and when they arrived they seemed annoyed. At that point we had already read the menu and decided so we placed our food order as well. It did take about 20 minutes for our food to arrive. We ordered a pepperoni pizza, tacos gobernador and enchiladas mexicanas. The pizza was a personal pan with 4 slices. It was extra cheesy but it was very soft, almost like a soggy texture. The enchiladas were good but the rice and beans lacked flavor. The portion was large and I did like they added cheese and avocado on it. The tacos gobernador also felt like a big portion with four flour tacos (more like a quesadilla style) and those were properly seasoned. I believe the server only came back one time but when we needed the bill it was another 10-15 minutes to get it. We paid around $75 including tip for 3 plates of food and no drinks. Price comparison to other places it does seem a little higher but given it is a nicer style restaurant you would expect the higher menu prices. Note: tables had sweet bread in boxes on them when you're seated. When we asked if they were complimentary or for sale he said they were $7. No sign, no price tag just a box of bread on your table. read more

We were so excited to try this place. I guess we were marketing victims here! We were also really disappointed. The booths were old and the leather had holes. The floor was sticky and dirty and the bathrooms too. Our waiter was amazing so he got 5 stars. The food was swimming in butter. The arrachera was salty. My beet salad had old arugula and dried chicken. The ribeye was good but that was about it. The only great thing was dessert. All of this for almost $400!!! Unfortunately, the experience did not match the hype. Service: Our drinks took a long time to arrive. My agua de Jamaica showed up before the water I asked for. A friend ordered a flavored water that did not arrive until much later, and when it finally did, the presentation did not match everyone else's. When we asked, another waiter brushed it off with "es la pura ilusión óptica," which felt dismissive and unnecessary. Our server kept disappearing, and every time we asked for something, he walked away before the rest of the table could say anything. Simple things like refills and extra utensils took more than one reminder. Food: The salsa arrived late and needed salt. A friend's molcajete never stopped boiling. It was so hot she kept burning herself trying to eat it. One shrimp was even stuck to the molcajete. I ordered the papa asada featured on their TikTok, since it was not on the menu. The physical menu is outdated and the QR did not load because the WiFi and signal were both poor. What I received was basically mashed potatoes stuffed inside a potato shell. Not horrible, not great, just okay. I also asked for chives and specifically wanted the green part. I was served the thick white bulb pieces instead. Not the end of the world, but in Texas most places get this right, so it stood out. Atmosphere and logistics: We did not have a reservation, and it definitely showed. The energy from the staff made it feel like we were an inconvenience. The WiFi was bad and the cell signal was not any better, which matters when the menu is QR only. The payment terminals were down. It was not a major issue, but it made checkout less smooth than expected. Management presence: Several staff members and managers eventually came to the table, which made it obvious they knew service was off. Still, no one asked how things were going. They were mostly dropping items off. Overall: Overhyped and overpriced for the experience we had. The food was not the worst, but nothing justified the wait or the prices. Honestly, the best part of the visit was the laughter we shared over how chaotic the whole experience was. Casa Madre has potential, but our visit missed the mark. read more

This was our first time at this restaurant. We saw it on TikTok. My wife and I decided to drive down to Mc Allen 4 hours drive when we got there our waiter seen ok I ordered the molcajete imperial but I had them modified from the porterhouse to wagyu steak . There was an increase on the price which I didn't care . My wife got the arranchera wagyu steak . So while we where waiting my wife and I were already having second thoughts of just paying for what we had consumed and just go next door to the Brazilian steak house but then I told my wife let me just see if they were able to modify my food because the waiter never came back so the manager came by and I told her that we wanted to pay for what we consumed and leave because the waiter was horrible and our food was probably not worth the money or the drive . So she responded, give me a chance to serve you and you won't be disappointed with the food . please give me the opportunity to give you a great experience. So because of Isela Martínez. Came for a friend's birthday around 1:30, it took around 20mins to get seated for a party of 4. Restaurant atmosphere is nice looks clean and cool inside. Our waiter took a bit to finally come take our drink order and was "ok" at best in the beginning was slightly better in the end so overall service was subpar. The girls ordered the strawberry lemonades which were really good (and only $5) - tasted more like limeade. We got 2 apps and 3 entrees. Got the quest flamadeo with steak - ended up being my favorite piece of meal. We also got the guac which was a awesome presentation and looked like a ton, however, unfortunately it was made to look big using a bunch of lettuce which am personally not a fan of with my guacamole. For the entrees we got two tapaquenia plates and a chipotle shrimp plate (...something like that...). Wife changed the enchiladas on the tapaq. plate to Suizas she said they were good but a little dry. Black refried beans and the rice were good, it also came with some nopales casserole thing which I liked. Fajitas were good too. Chipotle shrimp plate was supposedly great. We got an alcoholic drink too, was too strong and only taste like liquor. The free dessert for birthday was pretty big and looked great, the show they put on to sing happy birthday was over the top but pretty cool if you want to get some pics (have a whole little plaque with your name on it). Really? This steak looks like one I could get at chili's. Actually I prefer the one at chili's instead. Its bathed in butter and it was over cooked. I asked for medium and it came almost well done. The seasoning or marinade is leaning more toward like a chorizo type taste. Probably one of the worse steaks I've tasted. Now, the mac n cheese is a true disappointment. I paid 120$ for my wife and I. The rib-eye was 50$. For that price I didn't expect to get a side of kiddy mac n cheese. Thats laughable for an "upscale joint" located inside the mall. The chips were stale and old and hard. The bread was old and hard as well. My wifes enchiladas were dipped in red salsa and lacking in taste. Her food and my mashed potatoes were cold. I would say its not worth the money they charge. Im glad I didnt get the high dollar tomahawk because then I probably would've been upset. Im not angry now but I am dissatisfied. There really isnt a real place of this sort to get great food that doesn't disappoint for the price. I feel the same way about Palominos. The service was great. The place looks clean and very upscale. Ultimately, the food for the price is very subpar. Try it for yourself and dont take my word for it. A little surprised by all the poor reviews. While it wasn't incredible, I didn't think it was that bad. I will admit that our experience might not relate to others because we had a group of 20 in a private room and a custom made menu. We had roughly 5-6 servers assigned to our group which made a big difference. As we sat down, the brought multiple starters which included guacamole with pork rinds, spicy potatoes, bread, and tortillas with a meat/cheese. The appetizers and dessert were probably better than the entrees but nothing was horrible. For my meal, I had the ribeye which included mashed potatoes and asparagus. I felt it was cooked properly and the portions were more than enough for the price point. The dessert was delicious and fresh. The cart is a fun way to present all the options and definitely makes you want to order one. We had a few birthdays in our group and they made that a fun celebration with sparklers, hats, signs, a saxophone, and singing. Overall, for a company Christmas party, we had s great night. The service was friendly and attentive and the food was more than enough for the price. I loved this place. It is located inside the mall, and the ambiance of the restaurant is so nice. They have live music, and it's decorated nicely inside. I tried their chilaquiles and huevos rancheros with potatoes and beans plate, and it was so delicious and filling. The plate was huge and had so much food. The prices are fair for the amount of food you get, which is why I don't understand why I see a lot of reviews saying it is expensive because IT IS CERTAINLY NOT. The taste of everything was great, and I would definitely come back to try something else. The service was also great. The waiters all speak Spanish, but it is not hard to communicate with them even if you do not speak Spanish. They are super attentive and bring around a mimosa cart if you are interested in that for brunch. Overall, I would give this spot a 9/10. The food lacks flavor and for the price you'd think at least some salt or pepper would be added... the service lacked attentiveness but over served attitude. Never have I experienced a waiter physically wait for the receipts and look at how much we tipped one by one as we passed down the receipts to him. After he came to our table twice the whole time we were there and for some reason refused to give us ice for the mimosas we bought after another server had already agreed to bring us some. If you want mediocre food with a side of attitude this is the place for you. The only positive thing from the experience was the live music. read more

Ehhh, not so great! I tried both brunch and tried giving it a second chance at lunch. Both were disappointing. Our server was friendly, and attentive. I had the Ham croissant & egg Benedict. The bread was burned, dry and hard. When I tried their lunch menu, I ordered the Casa Madre chicken breast, which was also dry and was suppose to have sauce on top, but mine had very little. What can I say that hasn't been said in previous reviews. Decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. Oh boy was I wrong !!! The reviews are RIGHT!!!!! Where to start ? The food took approximately 40mins to arrive after waiting 30mins to order. We got the wrong orders and because of the wait time, we did not want them to make a new plate. My husband ordered the milanesa torta. And he got the milanesa with no bread. I had the torta de chilaquiles, Bad idea! It's literally soggy cut up tortillas with a flavorless salsa and a smear of beans and cheese. Two order were the huevos Motuleños, in the menú it reads " Tostadas" S as in plural. BUT NOOOOOO. Only one tostada. And no avocado. Who forgets the avocado ! Any who , continuing. My husband got hit TWICE with the dessert cart ( pic attached to see the path). No I'm sorry , no nothing. When we asked to speak to the manager, it took her a while to get to our table. Once we explained to her everything that went wrong, she asked if we wanted a discount or a dessert. The discount that was given was half off the huevos Motuleños! That's it ! Which didn't make a different once they added the tip for being a party of 6. The whole concept of having a kid room, I'm not sure if it's even open. I hate that a restaurant in a good location with a new concept is doing so poorly! Great new spot at the plaza mall that we tried for brunch. The wait was pretty long, but it was worth it! The staff was quick and extremely nice. The coffee was fantastic and the food was amazing. Nothing bad to say about this place except that it is a little more pricey than your average Mexican restaurant. Regardless the extra money is worth it and I did not regret anything I ordered here. Also this restaurant does have a sister store named "La Casa De La Abuela". The wait is likely shorter and the food is vary similar. If Casa Madre is too packed or you are just closer I recommend trying them there as well. read more

Food and drinks in my option were overpriced for it being Mexican cuisine. It's not a steakhouse but they did offer steaks at market price ranging upwards of $400+.
