Visited this place because it had excellent Yelp reviews but I think the Yelpers probably missed on this one. As you walk in the ambiance is amazing! Everyone dresses with bakers hats and the place is clean and you can smell the fresh baked bread being cooked. The service is a great as well. As soon as we were seated, we were helped and our order was taken. From there it just became a below average experience. The eggs were fine but look at the pictures. The hashbrowns look store bought or like from a fast food joint. The ham was thin sliced and looked like a cut from a deli meat package from the store. This was very disappointing for the price of I believe $11.99 for this plate. You can get much better food for $12.00 in the RGV. The best thing about this place was the pan dulce/sweet bread. The conchas were good. My advice if you are in the area, stop for the pan dulce but skip the over priced breakfast food because you will be disappointed like I was. 3 stars for the cleanliness and ambiance and pan Dulce. As I walked I was greeted by a kind waiter that helped our group get seated. Once we sat I saw the bakery part of the restaurant and was so excited to try the concha's! I ordered cafe lechero that was so delicious and still robust. I ordered migas my favorite Mexican breakfast dish. It was so good and tasty with a side of refried beans with queso fresco. The waiter walked around with a tray of freshly made concha's and I grabbed one it was so delicious and good. My husband ordered a breakfast plate with a pancake and our friends tried the French toast and they really enjoyed their meals. UPDATE: They've significantly raised prices since last year. $3 more for the smallish portions that they previously provided for breakfast. This place is a cross between a bakery and a breakfast/lunch place. But it misses on both ends. The place is usually busy...we sat down and were attended right away. I ordered the biscuits and gravy, chilaquiles...my mother-in-law had grilled chicken breast. The biggest issue here was the timing of the food...they took a while that by the time my food arrived, it was lukewarm. The biscuits were Mexican style biscuits, which is fine, but it's flavor didn't blend well with the gravy. The gravy wasn't thick nor savory as you can see in the picture. It was also quite huge, the biscuit...but for that much biscuit you need a good thick gravy to accompany it...which it didn't have. The chilaquiles were lukewarm. IF they had been nice and piping hot, I probably would've enjoyed them, but they were lukewarm at best. My opinion is that held them back because of the grilled chicken breast... wrong choice. Another issue with this place is the bakery itself. They have rolling doors on the displays where they have their bread options...half the doors were open halfway, so any fly could land on their donuts/empanadas. I told one of th waitresses about it ..that the rolling doors were open. The waitress went and closed it but the door rolled open slightly on its own...the bread itself is actually quite nice. They have a good selection of coffee conchas, empanadas, cookies...etc. Just keep in mind that a few flies probably landed on them already. The prices here are decent...and the portions are good. But you will find better chilaquiles and biscuits elsewhere. read more

Purchased some pan dulce this morning! They charge by the weight, but the cost for the heavier pieces is about the same that is charged in other places for desserts so I'm ok with that. It is my third time here & every time I am disappointed. Today I ordered a Fajita Tampiquena plate and when I asked why the fajita had no flavor, they told me they were only adding a light amount of salt because customers had complained about the food being too seasoned. I am not a master chef, but with a quick google search, I know that this style of food should have been cooked with onion and peppers then topped with caramelized onion. No one was accommodating. I decided to give this place a try for breakfast this morning and it sure ended up being a great choice. I do have to say I have never seen such expensive sweet bread but based on the flavor I would say it sure was worth it. I had a chicken torta which was more of a burger shape so that was a bit disappointing but The flavor was delicious so that made up for it a bit. Ok, I'm Mexican-American and I know a good panadería when I see one. I'm used to paying by the piece, like 50 to 80 cents. Well, this bread is ginormous and they sell their bread by the pound!!! So, I was expecting to pay $6-$8 or maybe $10 max, so I was a little shocked when the checkout girl was like $16!!! This is a nice breakfast bakery , i enjoyed my huevos ala Mexicana with machaca, however the machaca was a bit on the crispy side, but they were tasty as were the beans, i also had their famous Café Lechado, nice smooth mellow taste, wish it had more kick, an extra shot of expresso would hace been nice. The coffee presentation is unique but it as well as the taste does not justify the price. The plates ordered include 1. Huevos rancheros- very watery salsa which made the over easy eggs very watery. On top of that there was no flavor. I couldn't even pick up the egg. It was more like a drink. The eggs sat atop a soggy crisp corn tortilla.
