I was a bit disappointed with the menu selection, the few options, although sounded good, were just a few and most spicy. Which is great if you eat spicy food but not if you don't. They were really good except that the lettuce was really off half of our lettuce was kinda yellow . It was a huge turn off. We just picked them out and ate the rest. Started with the dragonfruit mimosa, which was nice chance from traditional but would probably get the traditional next time. The omelet had decent flavor and great presentation but lacked a bit on the flavor. The veggies were extra crunchy as well which took away from the omelet. The banana bread looked great, but the taste from the oven or warmer was stuck to it.. as if you could taste everything else that was warmed up before it, quite a bummer. The food was absolutely delicious, unfortunately the service was the ABSOLUTE WORST! Paloma, our waitress was unprofessional and lacked common courtesy. It took almost 30 min to get our drinks, and did not come to check up on us. This was not the issue, we asked to get our bill and waited another 10 min as we made eye contact to get her attention. We had to ask her manager to get us the check after 15 min of waiting. Paloma then goes off and flick us off as her manager was speaking to her addressing her lack of service to our table of only 4, granted this was before we even spoke to the manager. As a customer seeing this is NOT OK!!! It's a shame that the experience trumped the delicious food. Our friends that invited us to Bonhomia have been here and said they had previous bad experiences with Paloma, this issue needs to be addressed. I ordered the red chilaquiles; they're served on tostadas drenched with salsa. This was a different experience to the chilaquiles I've eaten before, but the tostadas cut easily. I've been wanting to come to this place since 2 Mother's Days ago, and I finally got the chance this year. I actually wanted to go for the pastry desserts, but I'm so glad I didn't go just for that. It was a mix of savory bread with butter & jam, plus sweet breads such as carrot cake, & a buttery sweet almond bread, sooo good! I then ordered the BLT, which has to be the BEST BLT I've ever had. The bacon was pralined along with a little bit of a kick of that amazing serrano aoioli in it & the dried tomatoes gave it the perfect zing. It was amazing. The other dishes we had were the grilled salmon on the Bok Choy Salad, in which the honey soy glaze on it married the dish together, it was sweet & salty mix. Another was the white chilaquiles, which were very good & tasty with the white sauce & manchego cheese covering it & made it delicious. The bits of the Chicharrones in the chilaquiles were quite the treat. Yum! And, the last dish was the pesto avocado toast, which was a fresh taste in every bite. It was a delicious experience. The service was friendly. good & attentive. It's a small place, so now I know why you need reservations, besides the food being delicious. The ambiance is comfortable. That Saturday I went, they had a great singer who was playing the guitar, but I don't know if he was with the restaurant or with the group next to us who was celebrating their kids communion. The guy was really good. It is a MUST visit. You know, I went for desserts, but with everything I ate. I had no room for dessert, so. This was our second trip from Harlingen to eat at this lovely restaurant. The Pitaya Pineapple Mimosa alone is worth the trip but the food and pastries....mmmmmmm! The Oyster Mushroom soup was heavenly! For our entrees, I enjoyed the Duck and Potatoes while my husband enjoyed the Black Chilaquiles and both were scrumptious! The Orange Pineapple juice my husband ordered was freshly squeezed and he loved it. Their pastries are absolutely gorgeous and just as delectable! Their food and atmosphere were fantastic, this place has so much potential and I will definitely be back to give them another chance. For now though 3 stars is all I can give because the one time we have been here the service was horrendous. Now I am pretty lenient when it comes to service. I understand that it can be hard to do with lots of customers and possibly not enough staff. This instance was however so bad that it ruined my whole experience and left me just wanting more. First of all when we walked in there was a 30 minute wait, which is fine I understand that you have to wait. During this time they asked us if we would like some drinks in the meantime. We gladly accepted and ordered some mimosas. We never saw this waitress again. We looked for her and tried to ask but we're unsuccessful. Finally we asked another server and he told us the original waitress just forgot. When they finally returned to ask take us to our table we received our drinks and got to take them back with us. After sitting at the table it took us having to wait almost 15 minutes and flagging someone down again to come get our order. By this time we were really hungry so we ordered coffee and our food at the same time. We then did not see the waiter again until he arrived some 20 minutes later with both our coffee and food. Now to me this was weird because I wanted my coffee so I could drink it and wait for my food. Possibly get some refills, but this did not end up being the case. I don't know if this was on purpose but I'm tempted to say it was not and am treating it as such. When we finally got all our food everything was delicious and the chef even came over to ask us about it personally which was a nice personal touch. Like I said this place is cute and the food was really tasty, but they need to step up their service and not let people feel as forgotten as we did. I would like to give them a second chance though and will hopefully be able to update my review at a later time. read more

The food is delicious, the cocktails and mixed drinks are refreshing, and best of all (because I have a sweet tooth) are the AMAZING desserts. The customer service was wonderful! I was appreciative of how all the servers worked together to refill water, bring entrees to the table, pick up dirty plates and took care of everyone's needs. I would only recommend bringing out individual entrees when they're done because some family members received cold food; the flavors were there, but would taste even better if the food was hot. There was a small issue at the end with splitting the bill 50/50 on their portable credit/debit card machine. The total amount due was verbally told to us but when splitting the bill on the machine, the autommated gratuity was shown twice. Ex: 101 + 39 (gratuity). It seemed like the total bill would be $202 as food with $78 gratuity. The servers were very understanding of our confusion and brought the tablet over to show the total amount due matched what we were being charged. That simple clarification was all that was needed, total gratuity was only $39. This was my first visit here and I would recommend this to anyone wanting to enjoy a beautiful atmosphere with delicious food and drinks. read more

Their more Americanized dishes are good but not quite as good as these. Even folks at the tables next to ours were getting these dishes. The nutty French toast was also delicious but not enough to make the top of the list. The worst dish by far was the avocado toast. I know! But it's so basic! The avocado and toppings were good. But the "toast" was not really toasted and was like 2 inches thick. Whhhhhyyyyy??? So if there is one thing you should save your money on to order a pastry later, it's the avocado toast. The other three items are a good way to make your belly happy. Don't expect your food to look like all the images online. That was one thing that disappointed me. They could make this place top notch with the use of their clay dining ware. If they would lean more into that aesthetic of traditional Mexican ware mixed with hipster vibes and contemporary pastries, this place would be the bomb. But do expect the taste to be excellent. It's also a cute shop. There's a wall inside that's perfect for Instagram posts and the pastries and food are all of Instagram quality. I went with the coconut horchata, which was very refreshing and not too sweet! I enjoyed the cinnamon ice cubes, which was a very unique addition to the drink. If you're a fan of horchata, then I highly recommend for you to try it out. We ended up ordering the Croque madame and red chilaquiles. The Croque madame was huge and the brioche bread melted in your mouth. The fried egg was a nice addition to the dish and the yolk was runny! Unfortunately, the red chilaquiles were a bit disappointing. The fried corn tortillas were way too oily and didn't add much value to the dish at all. The tomato sauce was underseasoned and bland. Honestly, the best thing about the red chilaquiles was the chorizo bits sprinkled throughout the tomato sauce and fried egg on top.
