The sign on the restaurant building now says "Taco N Todo" but they're not using the building yet at the time of this review (September 2026) but, instead have a food truck and a covered open-air dining room. There is no AC. Most people order take-out at this point, but it was late enough the heat was tolerable, a breeze was blowing, so I chose to dine in. I was greeted upon my arrival by the servers who did an exceptional job explaining what they had to offer. They have several kinds of tacos, panchos, sincronizadas, baked potatoes (topped with meat or plain, quesadillas, espadas, lonches, tortas, burgers, hot dogs, charro beans, birria, family platters, and more. I chose a pineapple flavored Jarritos soft drink, 3 Matamoros tacos (fajita, avocado and queso fresco) and two tacos of jalapeños rellenos with fajita and mozzarella cheese. They came with real tortilla chips, salsa, grilled onions, diced onions and cilantro. They offer fresh corn tortillas, flour tortillas or corn tortillas dipped in grease.. i chose the fresh corn tortillas. The tortillas were on the small side, but they were filled to overflowing - the filling could easily have made two or three tacos each. I loved both kinds of tacos. Matamoros tacos has always been a favorite, but the jalapeños rellenos tacos were incredibly good: jalapeño tornado, split and filled with the meat of your choice, and then topped with a blob of melted cheese... They were very filling. My server did a great job, was friendly and helpful. I want to return and try some of their other antojitos, the panchos. I was also pleased with how juicy and tender the fajitas were, not over cooked. This place is now on my list of among the best I've had in the RGV. I hope they are able to open an air conditioned dining room soon, but if not, I'll still go.

Their lunch offerings include a variety of salvadoran pupusas, caldo Tlalpeño, the jaliciense carne en su jugo; skillets of chicharrón pensado en salsa, frijoles con "veneno" (chorizo), melted cheese; various tacos from flautas, tacos and la plancha, tacos Llorarás (jalapeño relleno and birria), gorditas, enchiladas, and more. They also have a children's menu. They often have promotional specialty items like tortas de chilaquiles or tortas ahogadas which I have yet to try because I keep ordering the incredible tacos Llorarás. The service has always been exceptional whenever I have gone. Their staff is friendly and efficient. Place your order at the counter and pay up front (there is a jar for tips), and they bring your food to your table. Their drinks range from bottled soda (no soda fountain) to aguas frescas: Jamaica or a refreshing limonada with cucumber. The dining room has half booths (padded bench along one wall, chairs on the other side of the table, or standard tables and chairs. This makes it easy to accommodate wheelchairs if needed. Prices are a bit higher than a burger fast food place, but less than a chain sit-down restaurant. For the food quality you get it's a great price. They have plenty of parking, and restrooms (his and hers) are clean and well maintained. My only complaint is I wish they could extend their hours and offer dinner as well!

Guadalajara Express is a pleasant surprise and something unique in Mexican cuisine…read more As there is limited signage, and the establishment is small (cozy), it is easy to miss if you're not alert. It's located just west of Raul Longoria in a strip mall, on the south side of Nolana Loop, next to Magnolia Events. To get into the parking you need to approach it from the west (as if you're coming from the expressway I-69-C), because dividers in the road do not allow a left turn if you're coming from the east. But it is well worth the visit! Guadalajara Express specializes in regional Mexican food from the Guadalajara, Jalisco area. I spent my teen years living in Guadalajara so when I heard about them it got my attention! I love the regional cuisine from Guadalajara and there are several things on their menu you cannot find anywhere else in the Valley. Yet I have often been sorely disappointed with Mexican restaurants as most here "americanize" their food. I am thrilled to say that my worries were needless. Guadalajara Express has authentic regional jaliciense food and do it well. I have been twice. The first time I ordered the "carne en su jugo" and the second time I had the torta ahogada. Both were wonderful! I was especially impressed since I knew it takes a special kind of birote (bread) to make the torta ahogada; the usual "bolillo" does not work. The birote is denser so it won't fall apart when they cover it with salsa. The owners / operators are from Guadalajara (once I tasted their food I could have guessed that). They found a bakery that special bakes the birote for their torta ahogadas. The torta ahogada has a dense, toasted birote, filled with carnitas, then covered with a sauce. Back in the 1970's they used to dunk the torta into the salsa, but nowadays it is ladled on. They ladle on a mild salsa, but provide a cruse filled with super hot salsa made with chile de arbol, use with caution, but it IS authentic! The ambience and decor is beautiful, lots of traditional Mexican "artesanias" many made in Tlaquepaque or Tonala, from the Guadalajara metropolitan area. It is a little cluttered, but pleasant. Both times I went it was very clean, service was exceptional, the food was heavenly. Prices seem a tad high, but considering you won't find their specialty offerings anywhere else, I thought it reasonable. I really enjoyed it and think you will too.

Thin strips of meat in a flavorful broth with frijoles de la olla, bacon pieces, onion and cilantro. So good! This dish originates from Guadalajara, Jalisco. The broth is not easy to make, thats probably the reason most places dont offer this dish. Anyway, meat was cooked good. Broth was flavorful and not salty from the bacon. It all came together. They give you three tiny quesadillas with your meal. Perfect addition. Overall, it was delicious. Will return.
