pupusa, Gordita, chili relleno, taco plancha, and taco lloraras.
    Bobbie S.

This restaurant was amazing! It starts with how welcoming and helpful the staff is. Then the food. Oh my goodness! They were perfectly busy showing this was the spot to be but still places to sit and eat. The restaurant was clean, with the employees constantly checking on guests and cleaning up as one left. I had a sampler like platter. That gave me 5 different items-pupusa, Gordita, chili relleno, taco plancha, and taco lloraras. I was full after the first three. I have a snack for later with the other two. If you are looking for local food, this place is it. Next time I fly down I will have to come here again.

This place was bomb. Great prices and very authentic and flavorful food. Their homemade sauces were excellent. We enjoyed the chilaquiles, pupusas, and the cucumber agua Fresca. Portions felt generous too, highly recommend. Definitely gets crowded during peak times though so be prepared to wait for a table

Gallito plate 2 eggs your way, chilaquiles in red or green sauce, 2 strips of bacon and 2 pancakes

Had a chance to go out and try this place finally. I ordered the Gallito which consisted of 2 eggs to your liking chilaquiles in red or green salsa 2 strips of bacon and 2pancakes. The portion size was just right for me not to much and not too little. The flavor of the chilaquiles was very good and they were nice and crunchy. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the pancakes were also very good. I would definitely come back again to try other things on 5he menu.

PUPUSAS CALDO TLALPEÑO FILLED WITH FRESH VEGETABLES, LOADS OF SHREDDED CHICKEN AND CHEESE ACCOMPANIED WITH HOMEMADE CORN TORTILLAS!

Definitely a hidden gem. Craving "REAL" Mexican food, decided to drive to the Pharr location and it was worth it. It's a very different concept for the Valley but the formula works. The menu is not huge but diverse enough to want one of each. My spouse chose the Caldo Tlalpeño with HOMEMADE corn tortillas (yes, it's over 100F but well worth it) and a Gordita. I chose 3 pupusas and they were huge. To drink I had their Lemonade with Cucumber and it was deliciously sweet. Food and drinks came to $38 or so and then the tip. The service was impeccable, everyone was very friendly and helpful. I thought it was well worth it. The fillings on my pupusas were amazing and delicious. Best part?? NOT ONE ITEM WAS DRIPPING IN GREASE! How great is that?? Very clean establishment as well, I hope they stick around for a long time, I will be going back soon.

First of all, let me tell you about those Chilaquiles, They are Huge!! If you don't eat much you can share ir with another person, They come with frijoles, Chicharron, Chicken, and eggs. You can style them too if you don't want too much stuff on it, They enchiladas are good but couldn't see them because of too many potatoes they put on top, That doesn't bother me at all, I love potatoes! They don't have servers you just go and order your food and then take a seat. They bring your food to you and thats about it, The staff are really friendly and nice and if you have any questions about your food they don't hesitate to help you. I got captivated by the walls there, You can Write on them!!!! Soo if you are planning to come don't forget your sharpie!! We will be coming back for sure!

While I was at the location in McAllen I was unable to find their yelp. The service was fast and the girls who took our order were very friendly. The restaurant was clean and it wasn't too busy when we got there so there was plenty of options for us to choose to sit at. I give my total experience a 4, but I rate my food a 3.5. I got the chilaquiles plate with chicarron prensado en salsa verde but I wasn't a fan of the salsa. The taste was too bitter and lacked spiciness for my personal liking. The chicarron was cooked well and had a nice texture and the beans were yummy too. I liked that the chilaquiles had plenty of cheese and crema! I definitely want to go back and try the chilaquiles in red salsa though, I'm hoping I'd like it better than the green salsa.

The best chilaquiles I had while I spent three weeks in McAllen. I'm a chilaquiles lover, so I have a reference point. The ladies behind the counter were very friendly as well. The coffee is made with cinnamon and sugar already mixed in (panela), so if you don't like that, be prepared. They have two locations, but I went to the one in north McAllen both times.

First time visiting this area and we chose a great spot to have breakfast. We tried the chilaquiles plate and it was delicious. The salsas they have are actually spicy We also tried cafe de olla and enjoyed it. Staff is friendly and kept checking in to make sure we didn't need anything. Place was clean, definitely worth checking out.

    Atacate Plate! So good!

Where should I start. I guess the beginning is a good place. I walked into this establishment and was immediately greeted by two very nice ladies. This was my first time here and they could clearly tell. I had already looked at the menu before hand and had my eyes set on getting the Atacate plate, which the lady behind the counter said that would offer the best taste of most of the menu. And boy it did not disappoint. The crunchy/soft taco was flavorful and that avocado making its special guest appearances was just icing on the cake. There was another taco that had what seemed to be a Chile relleno inside of it. The Gordita was great, but the pupusa my goodness was perfect! Their sauces that are served up with the dishes only increase the experience and the spice. The green sauce was good, orange sauce was better. Combined was like a "fusion HA" from Dragonball Z. If I'm ever in the area again, I will be back to try more on their menu. This is a all day banger for me!

The food here is wonderful, the atmosphere is beautiful and I'm so glad I came. The servers were so lovely and kind -- I asked for recommendations and nothing disappointed. The #9 is their sampler of 4 different items and it's delicious! I highly recommend doing dessert as well. If you're in this area, visit this place!

La Casa de la Abuela covers every category for a delightful breakfast, brunch or lunch: a menu with great variety, quality delicious food, excellent service, a beautiful and pleasant atmosphere, good parking and a great location. My friend had the enchiladas suizas. I ordered the chilaquiles rojas con pollo. The menu warned that the salsa roja is spicy... and they are right. I like spicy, and this gave me the hiccups! Not to worry, they have several options, including mild ones. I was impressed with their molcajete of guacamole, the refreshing strawberry lemonade, the classy presentation of each dish. I almost ordered the chile relleno or the torta ahogada. I learned they make their own birote (a denser kind of bread roll) for the torta ahogadas, which is key for that dish hailing from Jalisco, which is smothered in salsa prior to serving. Everything I saw was spotless, elegant, and beautifully decorated. It's a new fave, and I will go back. When I do, I want to try one of their pastries: conchas, chocolate or strawberries and cream filled croissants, and more. This was a great place for a meet-up with a good friend. It would also be great for a date with my wife, a business lunch, or small groups. The dining room is not very big, so large groups would need to find another option. I highly recommend, Grandma's House!

As an annual parishioners, I've eaten here before and I love it! Earlier today, I had lunch at Azure. It consisted of their oh-so delicious ahi tuna salad. I enjoyed the salad so much that I nearly forgot about the crackers. There's no doubt if I ever drop by again around noon or after, I'll order it again. I want to mention that I had breakfast here before, too. I highly recommend the barbacoa, which tastes like it was grilled the way vaqueros (cowboys) in South Texas do theirs.
