They treat you like you're the 'favorite neighbor'. Right away they bring you out a 'biscuit with gravy' just for you to try. What a smart concept! The menu is both breakfast and lunch/dinner and it offers many options to choose from but not too many and several are your American favorites but also southern style flair. I had a meal that was big enough for a king but I wanted it because it offered a taste of everything I want when I'm eating breakfast. 3 eggs, ham steak, sausage patty, bacon, hash browns, and a side of their fabulous pancakes and they come in your choice of flavor and I got the pecan. Honestly, besides the food being remarkable, and the service on point, the restaurant has a 'homey' feel to it and there are pics of the owners family all throughout. The last thing I'll say is, the owner comes through the restaurant and visits with everyone. Just a dear person and her goal was to make sure our experience and food was exactly what we wanted. And it was!! So, Bravo!! Keep doing what you're doing because it made us come back again and again!! Each time the same remarkable experience!!

La Casa de la Abuela covers every category for a delightful breakfast, brunch or lunch: a menu with great variety, quality delicious food, excellent service, a beautiful and pleasant atmosphere, good parking and a great location. My friend had the enchiladas suizas. I ordered the chilaquiles rojas con pollo. The menu warned that the salsa roja is spicy... and they are right. I like spicy, and this gave me the hiccups! Not to worry, they have several options, including mild ones. I was impressed with their molcajete of guacamole, the refreshing strawberry lemonade, the classy presentation of each dish. I almost ordered the chile relleno or the torta ahogada. I learned they make their own birote (a denser kind of bread roll) for the torta ahogadas, which is key for that dish hailing from Jalisco, which is smothered in salsa prior to serving. Everything I saw was spotless, elegant, and beautifully decorated. It's a new fave, and I will go back. When I do, I want to try one of their pastries: conchas, chocolate or strawberries and cream filled croissants, and more. This was a great place for a meet-up with a good friend. It would also be great for a date with my wife, a business lunch, or small groups. The dining room is not very big, so large groups would need to find another option. I highly recommend, Grandma's House!

It artfully fuses contemporary culinary creativity with the deep, nostalgic flavors of traditional Mexico. I ordered the Molcajete Norteño, and it was, without question, the best breakfast I've had in a long time. More than just a dish, the molcajete is a full sensory experience--beautifully presented, sizzling with flavor, and visually captivating. The atmosphere is equally impressive--warm, vibrant, and inviting, with a distinct charm that makes you feel both excited and at home. I highly recommend this gem to anyone looking for a memorable and flavorful start to their day.

This place doesn't disappoint, I love everything, from the clean modern yet inviting ambiance to the café de olla and the Chilaquiles! I ordered the Mini Reketes: chilaquiles divorciados (red and green salsa) which come with shredded chicken. I added queso panela asado and chicharrón with mixed salsa... DELICIOSO! And to top everything else, the service was kind and friendly, as soon as I let Nancy know it was my first time here they walked me through the options and what they are known for. But that's not all, I came in hungry and left satisfied AND motivated by their kind personal note in my coffee cup and inspired by their place matt. If you are in McAllen and surrounding areas you need to try this place!

The salted caramel brew was good and refreshing--smooth, not overly sweet, and easy to enjoy. The fried chicken BLT, on the other hand, was dry... RGV-weather dry. I do want to give credit where it's due: the girl who served me was very friendly and welcoming, even close to closing time. Thank you for the great service. Overall, mixed experience ‍ great drink and kind service, but the sandwich could use some improvement. I'm sure I'll be back
