For my Los Angeles friends, the Tex Mex version of Migas is scrambled eggs with a mix in of corn tortilla chips. It often includes jalapenos and onions, which is how I remember it. So simple, so good, so like my grandma used to make. Jose's Cafecito nailed it! Jose's Cafecito is located behind and attached to Hotel Cortez in Downtown Weslaco. Service is excellent and I'm sure the other menu items are as well. I hope to find out on a return visit sometime in the future. Tomorrow, I must continue to explore the local diners. Took a friend from out of town there for breakfast on April 30, 2023. He had the barbacoa special and I had a huevo a-la-mexicana taco and a barbacoa a-la-mexicana taco. The place was busy and the wait for our food wasn't too long. Our breakfast was good, but what ruined it was when I went to pay. The bill was $22, but the charge on my credit card was $23 and change. I asked if there was a surcharge for using a card and she said yes. I told her they should let their customers know about that and another lady butted-in and said it was posted on the door. I told them that I was there to eat their food, not to read the signs on their door. I paid and left. As I exited, I checked the door and there was NO SIGN about any surcharge for using a credit card. There was a small notice about 2 inches by 4 inches that mentioned something about a cash discount. Nothing else. I am sick and tired of businesses applying a surcharge for using a credit card. After all, they write-off the credit card charges they get as a business expense when they file their taxes! It's unethical. read more

I rarely get blown away by places but this cafe was amazing. Loved the atmosphere, food was very authentic and delicious. The coffee is freshly grounded and they make their own bread rolls. I ordered the cinnamon roll for the table and was glad that it was big enough for everyone to get a piece. Highly recommend this place! read more

What a charming cafe! I love the vibe in this place. One of my girlfriends and I went for breakfast. I had Migas, which is one of my most favorite Mexican breakfasts. It was served traditionally, with potatoes, refried beans and tortillas (I chose corn). My plate was plentiful. The Migas could have used a bit of seasoning. The homemade hot sauce on the side was good but could have used a little more heat. Maybe I'll try the Huevos Rancheros next time. My friend had sausage biscuits and gravy with hash browns on the side. She ordered two biscuits, which were the size of four very large fluffy biscuits. It filled the plate almost to over flowing! Her hash browns were on a separate plate. I tasted her breakfast and thought it was really good. She also ordered Mexican Hot Chocolate and it was beautifully served. She also offered me a taste of it and it was so yummmmmy. The restaurant was full and I noticed a lot of customers were being served huge pancakes! I think there were two or three on each plate. They were very large and fluffy looking. If I were going to have a pancake, I would want to come here to try one of theirs!!!!! I can't wait to eat at this place again next time I am in the Rio Grande Valley. If I ever live in the area again it is the kind of place I would frequent for breakfast. read more

The chorizo and egg plate is pretty good, I must say if you are a fan of spice, then they have a habanero salsa that's pretty darn good on a breakfast taco. The lady behind me got a sausage biscuit that looked delicious, that will be my next item I will try at this lovely place. This is a local favorite, apparently. I had asked someone on the hotel staff for a breakfast suggestion. This was it! We will definitely be back on future trips. The coffee was pretty good and the waitress kept our cups filled. The waitstaff appeared very efficient and our order was filled pretty quickly. I ordered the fideo in caldo with beans. Delicious! The broth was rich and flavorful. The fideo perfectly cooked and the beans very soft. I ordered the bowl and took some of it back to the hotel. I shared this with the young lady who had given us the recommendation. She loved it! My husband ordered machacado with egg, which were over-cooked. He said the refried beans were bland. We got there early and avoided a long wait. Not too long after we sat, the restaurant began to fill up. There is a bar, called Suerte, located in the same building as Jose's Cafecito. In order to find the bathrooms, you have to enter through glass doors, turn left, enter another set of doors, pass the bar and lounge area to find the bathrooms. I had to clean the toilet before using. But, after traveling for so many years, I come prepared with wipes; however, the bathrooms should be cleaned often, especially during high-traffic times. I came here as part of a group and was won over. The room was stunning, complete with a fake fireplace. The service was excellent. I only saw two servers for about 30 people and I never had to flag someone down for anything. They were always one step ahead. I had the Chicken Cilantro. The sauce was outstanding. The rice and veggies were nothing to brag about but it didn't matter since the chicken more than made up for it. My friend got the Chicken Alfredo and said it was mediocore. This is one of Weslaco's best kept secrets! Great breakfast and lunch. Today, we all wanted something different. Classic burger and fries for me and my son, eggs and bacon(with fries) for my 5 yr old, French toast for my daughter, and chicken fried steak for the misses :). Everything was great. Food taste fresh, temperature of food perfect, semi-quiet atmosphere, and 96.9fm overhead! Don't take this place for granted, it may be gone one day! He was punctual, professional and very helpful with choosing item menus and tweaking them to my specifications.
