I'm hoping it was just a way off day! We adore the one in Venus! It was awful in every aspect. Dirty tables, ice cold food and a 1 hour wait for food. Even 30 minutes to get waters and chips. 1.5 hours til close and they turned people away. Should have clued in to closed sign up at 1:00 when they closed at 3:00. Visited here one Sunday afternoon. It's a small place with counter service but the decor is colorful. They don't serve alcohol here so if you're looking for that, you'll need to go elsewhere. Ordered our food at the counter and it came out pretty quickly. Started with chips and salsa along with queso. Queso was okay and salsa was flavorful. Entrees were shrimp tacos and sour cream chicken enchiladas. Hubby loved the flavor of his tacos but my enchiladas were just okay. Went for a late breakfast on a weekday. Place was not busy but it did have more people coming in as it got closer to lunch time. You order at the counter. The hand held menu is kept at that same counter which did make it more difficult to review in advance and not hold up the line. Luckily I reviewed on Yelp in advance so I already had an idea of what I wanted (I could not find the menu on their website easy to navigate/view). We got chips & salsa that came with a small portion of red & green salsa. Both were flavorful - the green was spicy and my favorite, the red had no heat. I got the huevos a la mexicana with side of bacon. You choose how you want the eggs and whether you want corn, flour, or mix tortillas. It also comes with rice & potatoes. My husband got a breakfast burrito. The food came very quickly and I enjoyed being able to watch her make most of the food. We devoured our meal and look forward to going back. Service (ordering & food being brought to table) was a little slow as they were clearly training someone who was brand new. I was tempted to knock a star for that but that's just part of it and help is hard to-get these days. I'm very glad to see that this place is rated well because they deserve it. The food was fresh. The service was good. The owner even came out to check on our experience. I've eaten here twice and once for takeout and I've not been disappointed and nor has anyone that I've taken there. The standout item for me is the refried beans. The wait person was going to carry it from their table to my table. I was saying no before she ever got to me. The plate was left on their table and I didn't know if they touched it so they remade it. I live about 5 minutes from this place and it is a favorite of mine and my sons'. We come here often especially after school for dinner. The restaurant is very homey, and affordable. The food is amazing every time and I haven't had a bad experience not once! I'm not a huge fan of Tex Mex and that's why this place makes me happy because it's less Tex Mex and more authentic Mexican dishes. I truly feel like I'm eating food that has deep roots in the recipes and the lives of the people who make them! The service is always great and very welcoming. I just can't get enough of this place. I'm not sure what was wrong tonight, but, for the first time, my family had a horrible experience. The music was incredibly loud and made it hard to hear each other. The food was bland and left us hungry. I ordered the shrimp street tacos with no onions and no cilantro. The first time they brought it to me, they had cooked the shrimp with onions and then piled onions and cilantro on top. We then watched as they tried to simply scrape the onions off while jokingly questioning if no onions really meant no onions before another member of the team told them that they had to remake it. The second plate came out over cooked with pieces of the tortillas inedible,they were so hard. The avocado was cut improperly and still had the skin on the edges like they tried to slice it like a tomato. And there was this HUGE pile of cilantro on the plate that made a quarter of the rice and half of one of the tacos inedible to me because the cilantro getting onto all of it. I'm hesitant to come back if this is how the experience is going to be. read more

We ordered: Agua de limón (fresh limeade)- it was a bit more on the sour side could've used a little more sugar but still really good Agua de horchata(cinnamon, rice water, milky drink)- I love that it's freshly made. It was really good! Chips and salsa- Salsas were good, not spicy in my opinion Chicken salsa verde enchiladas w/t extra sour cream- they were so good! Very tasty the chicken was also seasoned, the salsa actually had a kick to it but the sour cream helps. The beans and rice were also very delicious. Chicken mole enchiladas (enchiladas w/t the brown sauce) - my husband ordered these, I had a bite. Also very tasty the mole also had a kick to it, the mole im sure is house made bc it did not taste like the typical out of a can mole. Gave them a second chance, was there a year ago and nothing has changed. They are not here to bring the authentic Mexican gastronomy, the female servers become angry an agitate if you ask for any info, they're here to make money that's why they give you tiny portions.
