    The seafood paella
    Val G.

This is a fine dining experience and the service and ambiance is very nice. Unfortunately they messed up our paella, the first time we had it in Spain. It was so salty that it could not have been that the chef was heavy on the salt shaker, this was more like he added salt and then did something came back and oh... I need to add salt. Oh, I should warn you don't do what we did. We followed another couple down the stairs which leads to the bar. Actually the bar area is nice and we stayed and ate there even though the Maitre d offered us to go to the dining area of the restaurant. First we were given a small portion of potato salad. Wife thought it was too eggy [if that's a word] in that the mayo was very thick and you could definitely taste the egg but I thought it was great. We ordered a jar of sangria which was OK but not the best we had this week. With our seafood paella we ordered some bread and we finished off the meal with a complimentary cake. Except for the over salting of our paella, everything was done really well and I would have loved to been able to try another paella.

On vacation and a friend suggested this restaurant. We made a reservation. Beautiful restaurant with elegant decor. Covered tables. Great service. The food was good. Restrooms were well kept and are located downstairs.

Great service, Galo our server went above and beyond the call of duty. We had the cigalas and the Rape, both to die for. We did not know the place, but went by and decided to enter, and got a great surprise.

    Pulpo at 20 Euros - don't bother

Was recommended by my brother's colleague as the best Galician restaurant in Madrid. It was promising as the display of seafood and meats on the outside was impressive. It also helped that it was 3 mins from our hotel and the place looked promising. The decor and ambiance was old school, with serious waiters dressed in old world restaurant clothes. The Maitre d' was friendly enough and the service was professional. I was expecting more out of the food, though. The octopus was tender and flavorful, but at 20 Euros, should have been fantastic. a quarter kilo of langoustines was okay at 18 Euros. The 50 Euro seafood paella was disappointing - we asked for the more expensive version that should have included a "large" lobster but this one was probably less than the standard 1-1/4 lb. It was scrawny - even the claws did not have much meat. I would've gotten more meat from an $18 lobster roll in Jersey City. Plus - there was no other seafood in it. A definite rip-off, even though the rice itself was really good. Dessert and after dinner drinks were better than average: my wife and daughter was happy with the Souffle Alaska and something called Filloas. He poured me a generous snifter of a really good brandy that set me back E14. That was worth it. Overall an okay experience, but not a good value proposition. 145 Euros should buy you a better dinner.

    Grilled octopus (pulpo)

The Galician gods smiled upon us by placing our AirB&B so close to Casa Gallega! The grilled octopus was our favorite dish (out of maaaany) while traveling around Spain for eight days. Our knives cut right through it. The seasoning was perfect. I could have eaten this every day of our trip. We hopped in rather early because we were heading back to our apartment and planned to eat tapas at San Miguel Mercado. We sat in the basement, which had a slightly more casual but very cozy vibe. The bartender / server didn't speak any English, which was fine because we had learned "tienes pulpo" by heart by the point in our trip. My glass of cava was delicious (harder to find by the glass outside of Barcelona in my limited experience) and my partner had a decent light beer.

Perfect restaurant for a sit down dinner. Food is authentic and the service is awesome. Paella and caldo gallego is a must have.8

We had the grilled artichokes with jamon, the assortment of croquettes and the octopus shrimp risotto. All of it was very tasty and blew our minds, especially the croquettes! Best taste better than in Seville and Barcelona!! No kidding, you should try them. The artichoke wad prepared a totally different way than I've ever seen. Very tasty, small amount sold as unit but we ordered two pieces- enough to enjoy for each of us. I would go back- this know for the seafood. Lots of specials including clams/ conches/ fish dishes. Felt full enough afterwards, really enjoyed their cuisine. A hidden gem.

Great food and wine and more importantly great people!

Most of the seats are outside, where 5 tables provide seats for 2 - 4 each, although more can probably be improvised. Inside, as if to ensure the diner doesn't forget it, neat rows of mussel shells are strung and hung along all the walls. A counter inside provides a place to enjoy the food and beverages standing, at a lower cost. But al fresco is where it's at in Spain so take a seat and wait for the waiter to check in. They offered an English menu in addition to Spanish. The mussels section is extensive, prepared in different ways but mostly served room temperature, alongside other classic tapas. The mussels are cooked well; tender, plump, and juicy. The spiced ones, in particular, were delicious, seasoned well, packing enough heat for flavor without overwhelming. The mussels in hot tomato sauce came warm in earthenware and smothered in sauce but was bland, an odd thing in Spain where excess salt is far more common. Their patatas bravas are worth a mention, being exactly what these potatoes are supposed to be: mouthfuls of fresh-from-the-frier heat, crispy and pillowy in texture, and doused in just enough hot pepper sauce. Along with a glass of cana, this makes for a nice tapas stop in Sol.
