I hate peeling off shells on seafood, I have a pet peeve about sticky hands, I hate fishy smelling hands after the meal, I hate the stinky smell off your hands after the meal and how hard it is to wash off. Damn it- this place is sooooo good. Perfect seafood without the stuff i hate. This place was really great!l I was so suprised on how affordable it was . What a gem in the middle of a small alley! We shared a seafood platter for two (shrimp, prawns, barnacles, two types of crab) amongst five of us so we could also try other dishes-shrimp in garlic, clams in garlic, grilled cod and the consommé and Galician soup. A giant round of Galician bread was waiting at every table which quickly filled up once the doors opened. Service was quick and efficient and they served free shots of baileys and nonalcoholic Apple liquor at the end of our meal. We also ordered flan and the frozen lemon for dessert which were both perfect to end the meal. Plan to make reservations so you are guaranteed a seat. It is a messy meal but the seafood is so fresh it was worth smelling like the sea when you walk out. read more

My wife found this place on our honeymoon searching for some fun authentic place to try before we flew out in the morning. Upon arriving here, we found it to be super crowded with Spaniards starting their night on the town with a massive seafood feast for the ages. The nice thing to see was that this place seemed very popular with the locals. Given the massive crowd, we were a little worried about the wait. But after talking with the waiter, he told us that he'd probably be able to seat us in about 5 minutes. It turns out that finding a table for 2 wasn't so hard with so many groups in front of us. We briefly looked at the menu, but decided to go with the seafood platter with all sorts of shellfish on it. This mountain of shellfish comes out for two and is stacked with shrimp, prawns, crab, etc. They also provide a nice side of bread to balance out all the seafood. For those who are not experienced in eating shellfish, it can be a bit hard to get to the meat. But if you exercise a little patience, it is worth the effort. read more

Excellent place to get seafood! Reservation is necessary - when we were there it was a long row of people in front of the restaurant. Understandable! What you get is really great! High-quality seafood in an easy athmosphere. You can open the crabs and everything easy with your hand and just enjoy like everybody around does - real south-european family feelings! Prices are really ok! We had the seafood plate which is 31 euro for 2 persons and more than enough! Definitely worth a recommendation. A must for all seafood lovers in Madrid! read more

Begin by making a reservation in advance, then I'll continue, because this place gets BUSY and I mean SUPER-BUSY. Oh, and like many other places in Spain, forget about trying to visit throughout the month of August: You'll find it completely shuttered. Done with the reservation? OK, this is a place that has been in Madrid for the better part of half a century, all the while completely unchanged. A bit like time travel. Yes, it's true! The simplistic decor of tiles on walls, fish nets and "marinero" style complements takes you back to a time in the late 1950's, right before the floodgates of massive tourism opened to the rest of the world. And this old-school touch is part of the place's charm. To get to the marisqueria part of the establishment, diners go through the bar (a neighborhood affair) at the entrance and down a tight hallway past the kitchen and into the dining area. Seats are tight, and unless you arrive at opening time, you'll find that there's barely standing room, regardless of the time of year or economic situation of the moment. Conversations are lively, and the aromas coming from other tables and the kitchen are delightful. The wait staff is mostly male, and everyone has been working there for years now. Each of these kind people are friendly, courteous, and willing to engage you in friendly conversation or just let you be. A very professional group of people indeed. Our meal started with an appetizer of "pulpo a la feira," (Spanish: "pulpo a la Gallega," English: Galician Octopus), which consists of octopus, seared with olive oil, some salt and a sprinkle of paprika powder with a bit of a cayenne bite. Lovely! To accompany the squid, we had a dish of pimientos del Padron, or small green peppers oven baked with a bit of olive oil and salt. Some of the peppers had some spiciness to them (it's hard to tell which), and each of these were prepared to perfection with a mix of crispiness and freshness that shows the chef instincually knew just how long to keep these guys in the oven. Then the main course: mariscada para dos. Sounds simple enough, no? Well, not quite, the order consisted of a heaping serving of shrimp, carabineros, and gambas, with percebes and crab. All prepared with carefully, and with bread and olive oil on the side to dress items as you wish. All consumed with a fine vino blanco ribeiro that was just dry enough to go down real easy. For dessert, we each had a shot glass with apple liquer on the house. Delicious! What a delightful meal that was. To give you an idea of just how good this was, I ate there last on July 30, 2012, and as I write these words, it's November 25, almost four months after the fact and it all remains vivid in my mind. Good luck with the reservations, they're not easy to get, so plan accordingly. This place is a must! read more

Best fish we've had - fresh, simple, well prepared. This is kind of a functional place with very good sea food and fish. We took a sole fish and langoustines that came off the grill and were very tasty. Alongside Pimiento de Padron and white wine we had a great lunch. The place seems like a locals' favorite. read more

Came because of the reviews, don't know what everyone is raving about. We got the seafood special platter (prawn, langoustine, crab), oysters, and the house wine. Yes, the platter is huge, and you will get a crazy amount of seafood. However, it comes out cold and very salty. No seafood/cocktail sauce, only mayo. Oysters were okay but very small and only lemons, tabasco to dress them with. I know a lot of you may be purists and say you do not need any sauce to enjoy seafood but for the price I am paying I expect to at least have the option. The house wine was very weak and watery, only good for taking the salty taste out of my mouth. The meal came to 60-70 euros. The place is not terrible, but for that amount I expect to come out pleased. I would avoid. read more
