Don't miss this place. It offers traditional tapas in a budget friendly setting. We had their famous dishes - razor clams and scallops, both dishes were simply delicious flavored in garlic and olive oil. We tried couple of their wines on the menu as well- so skip the 1 euro one but all others were great (starting at 1.5 euro). We then asked for some olives (free) and had their grilled green peppers. Feeling adventurous, we tried the sweetbreads. It was lightly fried and we drizzled the meats with some olive oil. While it was tasty, the portion was huge, so make sure you are hungry when you order this dish.

Great food and great prices! This little seafood diner is main square "adjacent." It's literally a 5 minute walk from the touristy spots but SO much better then any of the touristy spots we tried. (Liked it so much we came twice!) All the seafood we tried were extremely fresh but my favorite was definitely the scallops. I dare to say this was my favorite dish of the trip (we were in Madrid for 4 days so take that with a grain of salt). Tip - there's only 1 guy who speaks English so if he's not working that day you might struggle a tiny bit. BUT, the menu has pictures and everyone is SUPER friendly so you should be fine. We did not have any issues.

Cerveceria Cruz aka Bar Cruz, refers to themselves as La Casa de las Navajas which means the House of Razor Clams. Sure sounds better than IHOP or IHOb or whatevs. And honestly, their razor clams are the best the wife and I had while traveling throughout Spain. Bar none. Bar Cruz is located away from the touristy area of Madrid in the bustling neighborhood of La Latina where locals live, drink, siesta, and fiesta. In fact, when we walked in we were the only tourists in the cerveceria. As we walked in I saw the sign that said that they don't speak English, but they promised not to laugh at your Spanish. jaja. My kind of sarcastic people. With my Spanglish, I ordered the razor clams, grilled chipirones (squid), and of course cervezas at the counter. BTW when you order beer, they give you a free tapa of olives and sardines. The chipirones were really good, but the razor clams were definitely the highlight. Fresh, chewy, buttery seafoodness. You get 12 razor clams for 10 euros. Quite the bargain! Also, speaking just my remedial Spanish went a long way here. When I went to order a second order of razor clams, the older gentleman was calling me joven and I was calling him tío. If you want to experience Madrid the way locals do and if you want to appease your razor clam cravings, stroll on over to Bar Cruz. * I love how they say there is no WiFi so that you can talk to each other. * They also have plastic chairs and tables set outside, but since we are averse to secondhand smoke, we decided to grab a seat inside the bar.

Complimentary tapas with the beer, grilled mushroom, so freaking good.

I had one of my best meals in Spain here. Absolutely love this place! Navajas, 10 Euro for 12. Grilled pigs ear is a bit greasy, but great. Also, the free tapa with the beer, grilled mushroom is delicious!

3rd generation, family owned tapas bar. The staff is friendly. Angel, the owner, is passionate about his restaurant, food, and drinks. Come in and be treated like family. Try the razor clams which are the house specialty. I love the roasted peppers. The sangria is great. This was the 2nd stop on our tapas tour.

Stopped in for a quick snack of scallops and beer. Really casual bar spot for delicious seafood tapas and beer. The scallops were delicious and flavorful. You would expect to pay more for what you are getting. Never judge a book by its cover because you will get fantastic seafood here for an affordable price. The quality and flavor profile of these dishes are up there with places of 3 euro signs and yet this place is only 1. They have menu pictures posted on their wall and you can just point to what you want if you don't speak Spanish. I now wish we tried more things but it was a stop of many many stops in our Madrid food tour. The rave reviews are true! Everyone in out party loved it! Pop in and try them out!

Good raciones (appetizer dishes) to be shared with friends. I had the fried anchovies and razor clams (6) with two beers (dobles). Total was about 20 euros. If you want an authentic Spanish hangout spot and don't mind the "dive bar" atmosphere, this is the place to be. Highly recommend razor clams if you've never had it.

We had the grilled artichokes with jamon, the assortment of croquettes and the octopus shrimp risotto. All of it was very tasty and blew our minds, especially the croquettes! Best taste better than in Seville and Barcelona!! No kidding, you should try them. The artichoke wad prepared a totally different way than I've ever seen. Very tasty, small amount sold as unit but we ordered two pieces- enough to enjoy for each of us. I would go back- this know for the seafood. Lots of specials including clams/ conches/ fish dishes. Felt full enough afterwards, really enjoyed their cuisine. A hidden gem.

Most of the seats are outside, where 5 tables provide seats for 2 - 4 each, although more can probably be improvised. Inside, as if to ensure the diner doesn't forget it, neat rows of mussel shells are strung and hung along all the walls. A counter inside provides a place to enjoy the food and beverages standing, at a lower cost. But al fresco is where it's at in Spain so take a seat and wait for the waiter to check in. They offered an English menu in addition to Spanish. The mussels section is extensive, prepared in different ways but mostly served room temperature, alongside other classic tapas. The mussels are cooked well; tender, plump, and juicy. The spiced ones, in particular, were delicious, seasoned well, packing enough heat for flavor without overwhelming. The mussels in hot tomato sauce came warm in earthenware and smothered in sauce but was bland, an odd thing in Spain where excess salt is far more common. Their patatas bravas are worth a mention, being exactly what these potatoes are supposed to be: mouthfuls of fresh-from-the-frier heat, crispy and pillowy in texture, and doused in just enough hot pepper sauce. Along with a glass of cana, this makes for a nice tapas stop in Sol.
