Portobello Tacos were Amazing!
Jo P.

The stars aligned perfectly to bring us to Casa del Vegano last night. The dark interior and lack of an OPEN sign had us sighing at what we thought was one more miss in the evening, but we found that the door was unlocked and a few people were inside! Ordering can be done at the counter or from a QR code at the table. We didn't know what to expect, since the descriptions were so basic and neither of us are vegans. The only waiter we saw the whole time was really friendly and apologetic about the power outage they were recovering from as we arrived. Shortly after placing our orders, my friend's "beef" nachos came out along with my Portobello tacos, and we were blown away. With every other bite, we'd repeat in disbelief: "Are we SURE that's not real beef?" "How can vegan entrees taste SO good?" "I could be a vegan with more dishes like these!" My mouth is watering at the memory of it all and I want to come back soon to try other dishes.

Garlic carne asada taco plate. Happy Hour Black Bean Flautas (2 Pcs)

Great ambiance for a date night or a friendly meet up. The garlic carne asada tacos were the best tacos I've had in a while (vegan and meat tacos). Rice and beans were meh. My friend had the happy hour black bean flautas and the fried elote. She really enjoyed the elote. The black bean flautas were good, but not something I'd get again. Overall, I'd come back to grab some more garlic carne asada tacos.

Let me just say as a pescatarian who follows a majority vegan diet, this is literally my favorite restaurant. You don't even have to be vegan to enjoy this food. The service whether dining in or ordering to go is always immaculate. The ambience and vibe is everything if I could eat here three times a week I would. Every time I visit I ask them Will they open up restaurant in Plano so I don't have to drive an hour to Oakcliff. If you haven't tried it, you're missing out just look at the pictures the food tastes as good as it looks in the picture.

Trust me - try this spot! Even if you aren't vegan/plant based, I'm certain there's something on the menu for you! The ambiance is amazing. Laid back, dim vibes with the R&B jams playing over the speakers. The staff is super sweet and helpful and the owner is such a joy! He greets you like a favorite cousin and is so personable. Now, the food?! Top tier! On my latest visit, I took my sister (non vegan/plant based) and she raved about how the food was some of the best she's had, no exaggeration. The food is fresh, flavorful and the portions are quite large! Their cocktails are great also. Any time I'm out in the area, Casa Del Vegano is a must stop.

I literally had to put my fork down just to write this!!!! This place is amazing!!! I had reservations because I'm not vegas and I love my meat but this place is making me change my mind! The service is great. The waitress is very attentive. The inside is very nice looking. The music is good. Definitely coming back

Really was excited to try! It is expensive and they were BURNT!!! Inedible, very very disappointing. The rice was hard and crunchy. 3/29/24: I called twice to let them know and no answer. The phone just rings....

As someone who loves vegan and vegetarian food, I love finding restaurants that are 100% plant based. It's so exciting! This spot DID NOT DISAPPOINT. That said, this spot would be easily enjoyed by any carnivore - none of the food would be "weird" or "unfamiliar" to someone who is skeptical about vegetarian/vegan cuisine. Not only was our server such a friendly, fun, and welcoming person, he was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, and talked us through all his personal recommendations and other popular items. The food was BANGIN. Everything we ate. In hindsight, I don't think I would order chips & guac in the same meal as nachos, bc that was too many chips lol, but it was all delicious. We started with the chips & guac and then finished with a "beef" chimichanga made with tempeh and the birria "brisket" nachos made with jackfruit. I loved the presentation, the garnishes, the flavors, and the portions were pretty huge. The vibe of the restaurant was also great. The interior is a moody, boho haven filled with the scents of cumin, cilantro, limes, and other delightful aromatics. My only complaint - and this is really nitpicking - would be that the jackfruit meals were lacking a bit in protein, as jackfruit just doesn't have as much protein as tofu, tempeh, soy curls, or other plant-based meat substitutes. Would definitely go back, and we look forward to trying some other things next time!

Surfside Nachos with Beyond Meat

We came to this place after it was featured on NBC news. It is a Vegetarian Tex Mex Place. You have to know upfront that it is located on Jefferson and parking is terrible. Uber if you have a chance. Also, the wait staff is minimal. You order on your phone and then the food is brought out. I would not recommend this place for larger parties. It is a dark space with neon lights and music playing in the background. It has a club hipster vibe to it. They do have some tasty vegetarian dishes. We had the Vegan Shrimp Tacos, Surfside Tacos with Beyond Meat, Fried Elotes, Soft Shell Crab Tacos, Texican Pizza, Papusas, Bean and Portabello Nachos, Black Bean Flautas, and The Frozen Habiscus Margarita. All of it was tasty considering it was meat substitute. The flavors were rich. The atmosphere is kinda like a dive, the wait staff is minimal, and the food is tasty. Come here if you want to try something new. We thought the food was tasty but we aren't dying to return anytime soon. It is great for at least 1 visit.

I am thrilled for a pure vegan restaurant and I want to come back. But do not - and I am pretty turned off by this- do not charge me a service fee to implement technology that creates a business process improvement that saves you money. That is just wrong. You order using a cloud platform (and a bad one at that) so you have very little interaction with staff and no room for errors thus reducing wait service and rework. Also, you make your own water refills and get your cutlery as well as condiments. So it's poor management to implement a service fee to pay for this tech. The food was good. Except the rice - which was white not mexican- was oddly crunchy. The 'chicken' chimichangas were the best. The taco dragon rolls are highly creative. All four of us enjoyed the food. The room is super dark. The community condiments are unclean and not wiped down so gross. The community water jugs were not refilled. Overall it wasn't a great impression which is too bad because we need to support the vegan establishment.

Went on a Friday night. Ambiance was real chill, dark with a little candle light on the table. Seat your self, scan QR code for the menu, go to counter order. Ok let's get to the food had the brisket nachos (jackfruit) portion size I could have shared it, it was so good, I almost questioned if it was bbq brisket or jackfruit. Even if you're not vegan it's a must try. Will definitely be back.

Jackfruit birra taco plate

Absolutely the best vegan birra tacos I've ever had. You can get them with jackfruit, beyond meat, and mushrooms. The jackfruit was recommended by the bar tender and they were delish! Easily the best vegan Mexican food in Dallas! They have awesome margaritas that are wine based during their happy hour. The vibes are great and the staff was delightful

The food was amazing. You order everything through your phone, once your food is prepared it is brought to your table. The drinks are also amazing!! Great place to bring a date or just relax with your girls or bro's either is perfect. The food was seasoned to perfection. The best vegan food experience I've had so far.

Chimichanga and cocktail

Wow what do I say about this Amazing Tex Mex Vegan restaurant . It was my First time eating and didn't disappoint . I had the Chimichanga beef burrito , rice and beans , first of all it was big enough for 2 . Came to the table hot , fresh , those jalapeños were fresh watch out very spicy just the way I like them.Keep water handy . . I could go on and on. About this amazing food and place to dine . Where do i begin about the personal service . The Owner Hershel was great he was bringing out food , and talking with everyone. Not afraid of putting in the work . So amazing . I Love the personal touch . So friendly had a smile each time he came over . Ok last but not least. So you come in sit down and there's a Q card on the table you use that to place your order and it tells you them what table you're at . The music was great low enough to talk , so soothing , and relaxing . Music I listen to. Again Mr Hershel very personable its a drive for me but will take that drive any day . Worth it . Hey Mr Hershal .

Ask the Community - Casa del Vegano

Is it warm? Fireplace? Nice atmosphere?

It depends. They have big window doors that open. I went one time when it was raining and it was freezing and they had those doors open, so i was cold. There isn't a fireplace. The atmosphere is very cool, dark, modern, and chill.

Is this place good for 12 people?

I think that would be fine if not a very busy Friday night situation. You'd need to put tables together, but when I've been in, it would work great. The way they do the ordering, each "tab" would scan the QR code at the table they're sitting at and… Read more

Stopped at the Dallas Farmer's Market and finally got the chance to try Sierra Valley Food…read more They serve authentic Mexican food that's 100% vegan. As someone who loves to try authentic dishes but can't always find vegetarian versions, I really appreciate places like this! The people there were so nice and answered all of my questions about the dishes. Their most popular taco is the al pastor - carne asada which was understandably sold out. Instead, I ordered their second most popular taco, the carnitas, which is made out of chickpeas and is served with pineapple on top. I also ordered the chorizo taco which is made out of soy. You can also get a side of their spicy sauce which was a great addiction. Both tacos looked & tasted incredible! I was so excited to try them I forgot to take a picture once I got back to my car. Highly recommend trying this place out if you are at the farmer's market. I definitely plan on going back and will go a little earlier next time to try the al pastor!

In addition to having a stand at the farmer's market, Sierra Valley Food sells packaged foods on…read moretheir website: right now they have tamales, packaged vegan "meats", salsa, queso, and taco kits - all completely vegan, of course! Delivery in DFW is currently free (in December 2020), and you can ship to other locations. We ordered a dozen mixed tamales - I love that they sell variety packs! All were really good, and not too dry or crumbly. The "pork" were my favorite. The tamales are a decent size; three tamales were enough for a hearty meal for me (with no other sides!), and I don't have a delicate appetite. I also got some al pastor and carne asada, which I'm excited to try soon. I'm local in Dallas, and my ordered was delivered the day after I placed it! The prices are super for vegan foods: a dozen tamales for $19, and $12 for a pound of pre-cooked vegan meat to use in tacos, burritos, etc. Get your socially distanced plant-based holiday tamales from Sierra Valley - they're currently taking orders for Christmas and New Year's Eve!
