I have been to Casa Del Sol a few times now and I keep coming back, so that should tell you something. The atmosphere is really fun and has so much personality. The decor gives you that warm, colorful, lived-in Mexican restaurant feel with the artwork, the arched brick walls, and little details everywhere you look. It is the kind of place that just feels good to be in. I have tried both the Jerk Chicken Salad (on my third visit) and the Chipotle Chicken Pasta (my second visit), and honestly the pasta won for me. It was flavorful, satisfying, and just really well done. The salad looks amazing and I was so excited to try it, but it was a lot to work with and just did not hit the same way. Sometimes the pasta is just the move, and now I know. On my third visit, my friend ordered the quesadilla and the yuca fries, and those yuca fries were really great. Definitely worth ordering!! The service was warm and attentive, which always makes a difference. You can tell this place genuinely cares about the experience they are giving people. Overall, I would recommend Casa Del Sol. Casa Del Sol was one of several restaurants participating in the Nyack Street Fair. Although they have a large, authentically decorated indoor space, I sat at one of their outdoor tables. The hostess and my server were both very friendly and attentive. As I looked over the menu, a bowl of tortilla chips and fresh salsa were brought to my table. The salsa had a nice amount of heat, but not too much. The offer a variety of mixed drinks including margheritas, daiquiris, and mojitos as well as a small selection of wines. I ordered a non-alcoholic version of a strawberry daiquiri along with their lechòn and mofongo appetizer. Being that this is a Mexican restaurant, it is not like the savory Puerto Rican or Dominican mofongo. They used ripe plantains which surprisingly paired well with the perfectly seasoned, fork-tender pork. Overall, I had a very enjoyable experience at Casa Del Sol, and would dine there again. Went there yesterday, we had a good experience all around. The service was great. We had two different kinds of margaritas, and both were just ok. I had Negra models, which was on tap, what a pleasant surprise. We had the Mexican Lolipopa to start. (Chorizo wrapped in bacon in BBQ sauce) These were good, but I'm not a big fan slathering things in BBQ sauce, but that is my preference. My wife had the taco, one roasted pork, and the other portabella mushrooms with goat cheese. Both were very good. I had the quesadilla del sol, which was also very good. The place is nicely decorated and an all-around cool place to come hang out. It is located right in the middle of nyack with ample parking basically on the same block. First time here, looking for a place to eat outside for a mini-bachelorette celebration and landed here. We literally parked in the lost across the street and this was the first place we walked into. We started out with just margaritas, regular ones and a mango one with salt. They were okay. My mango one lost its mango flavor after a while. I guess it was the ice melting, not sure. My worst nightmare came true as soon as she brought the margarita to me, I went to drink it and saw a gnat type bug doing the backstroke in my drink. The server was very nice and took it away immediately and replaced it with a fresh one (and made sure I knew it was a new one and not the same one with the bug plucked out lol) We also had the complimentary chips and salsa. These were really good, and I ate a bunch while waiting for the food. Once my order came, they were pushed to the side. I had a shrimp and mango quesadilla that was really tasty. The mix of flavors went very well together. I also ordered a side of yucca fries, now.. these were a huge disappointment. I can only describe them one way... they were like bricks. Clearly overcooked, hard and difficult to chew. At first glance they look great, but when you bite down they were hard like they were cooked to long in the oven. The sweet plantains were perfect, soft and sweet like I like. I didnt see any vegan options on the menu but hope to next time I come. We had a very great waiter, who was very attentive and accommodating. The white sangria was delicious, and I would recommend. I got the chicken sandwich without the bun and it is just very typically chicken with bacon. But it was cooked well and the mail was a nice touch. I got the yucca fries, and I only wish that they were a little bit thicker and not cut so thin. I also wish that they offered well drinks on their happy hour menu. I've only been here once and overall I'd give it a 3.5 based on price and two of the menu items I did like. I did enjoy the guacamole which we ordered spicy and it tasted fresh and had the right kick and I also liked the steak taco. I didn't care for the chicken taco or rice and beans which tasted like they came from a box or can. I grew up going to Casa and moved out of the area awhile back. It was always one of my favorite restaurants. I even had my baby shower here is 2010! This was my first time to Casa in years, and it was as amazing as always. I was nervous, bc the reviews seemed mediocre. But I don't know what everyone is complaining about. We had a lovely waiter, the food came quickly, and it was just as delicious as I remember. We tried a little of everything I remembered loving, and it was all spot on. We came to nyack for the weekend, such a relaxing area, nice people and cool trendy places to hang out. Last nite I was looking through reviews on yelp to see what restaurant to go to so we can take our friend for his birthday who eats typically Spanish food, gladly we found this place casa del sol. From the outside it kinda looked a bit spooky (like we was going to be the dinner) the decor was skeletons sort of like (Dia de Los muertos) decoration it was ok. With all that said we still entered. Upon entering they had a live band in front practicing, our waiter Job was excellent even recommended a great tasting tequila that all took shot from. The food was very good, I ordered a skirt steak with veggies. The steak was delicious cooked to perfection, we all enjoyed what we orederd I will definitely be back. I would give it 5stars but our table was wobbly which they fixed but I find tables like that to be super annoying Oh and another set back was the practicing of the live band, it was loud and not so cool. Big disappointment. Horrible service and subpar food. Haven't been here in over a year. Remembered liking it. The waitress had three tables. The restaurant was empty when we arrived. Little melted pebbles. She just poured the red sangria on top of the white. But I got fruit this time! Didn't even rinse the glass and give me new ice! We quickly finished and I was starving, and wanted to leave. I was going to eat somewhere else. We asked for the check, and that was flung on the table also. When we gave her the credit card, she came back and actually flung the bill with a credit card at my 13-year-old daughter. after walking up and down main Street several times to find a place to eat I decided to try this restaurant. I'm a huge fan of Mexican food being from the southwestern United States and decided to give this a try. It was early in the evening, around 5 so there was not a lot of traffic in the restaurant which allowed me to take several good pictures. The decoration style and ambiance seem to be pretty conducive of a good meal. Since there weren't very many people there the service was very quick. I'm kind of a salsa snob in the salsa was pretty good. after ordering my meal however it took quite a long time for the meal to come out. I tried the avocado taco on recommendation from my server and ordered the chicken relleno and chicken quesadilla. for some reason they put ketchup on the chicken quesadilla which threw me off. Finally I ordered fried spinach as a side dish which was very tasty, but quite oily near the bottom of the plate. all in all I would say it was an average Mexican food visit for a New York location. The restaurants were clean and well-stocked and my waitress was very polite. My rating system consists of a 3-star being exactly what you expected and neither good nor bad. A 4 means something was extra special and a 5 means you were blown away. A 2 star rating was disappointing and a 1-star rating is terrible read more

I don't understand why this place is so popular and how they can get away with serving such horrible food! I'm all for supporting a local business and understand it's got a great bar area, but the food my children and I were served last night, on Cinco de Mayo no less, was disgusting ! The nachos we got as an app were fine. My daughter got the chicken and rice and it looked like it fell off the plate and was thrown back on. She at some and then said it had no flavor (we expose our kids to amazing food so they know what's good). My chili rellenos arrived with only one pepper for the dinner entree which needed salt and hot sauce, and the rest of the plate was a mess. My side of corn was cold and the fried spinach was a mouthful of oil. Finally my older daughter ordered the Quesadilla that had goat cheese in it- we were skeptical that this was a good idea but she loved goat cheese so she went for it. It was barely cooked and full of long slivers of jarred roasted red peppers, shredded cheese that wasn't even melted and tasted horrible. This place is definitely one of my favorite haunts. It's got it all. Great staff, outdoor seating, great art, and great live entertainment. The food is absolutely delicious and I cannot get enough of the tacos! Since I am weening myself off meat I tried the portabella mushroom taco and it was really good! The chips and salsa were really good to start. The menu had a lot of options as well as a lot of sides that you can get. The drink menu also looked great but we did not get any drinks. I said I had to go get the water myself because we asked and no one gave us more. His response: we brought u the first set of waters. I said my drink was horrible waitress: I didn't take that order. While I love the decor and the vibe, I wish the food was good. It is not. The last time I went, I ordered enchiladas. The chicken was white, unseasoned, and boiled with legitimately no sauce or even seasonings. It tasted freezer burnt. I think they took frozen boiled chicken out of the freezer, heated it, slapped it on a tortilla, and forgot anything else. I'm not a professional complainer, and the majority of my Yelp reviews are raves . . . but this one won't be. The good news is the food is adequate, slightly above chain-Mexican comida. But the service ruins the experience: indifferent to rude. When my fiancee and I sat down outside, she asked what the soup was -- after two attempts (our long-haired waitress was devoid of information) we found out it was chicken verde con posole. My fiancee asked about "posole," and the man in the blue shirt -- maybe the shift manager -- proceeded to list every ingredient to the soup as if he was explaining it to a child, throwing in, for good measure, that "con" means "with" in Spanish. The waitress took our order, forgot one thing, brought other items room-temperature that should have been hot. We were hungry, so we plowed through the first half of our food. I noticed a long female hair in mine but decided to not make a fuss but merely pulled it from my teeth and continued. Our waitress forgot us a few more times, and when my fiancee was paying the check I went inside and quietly spoke with the blue-shirted manager, telling him I wasn't out to complain (and, since the bill had been paid, I was hardly asking for a discount) but that someone in the kitchen should wear a hairnet because there was a long hair in my food. He looked offended and said, "It couldn't have been one of my guys. One of them in the kitchen is bald and the other has short hair." I said, "Look, you should simply know this," and then proceeded -- what did I have to lose? -- to say that our waitress seemed half asleep. "I was standing out there," he said, impatiently, "I didn't see you waiting for anything," at which point I decided the conversation was over. That is not how you deal with diners who want to point out deficiencies, dear Sir. Both he and our waitress offered us many muttered formulaic reiterations of "Sorry" -- so much so that I propose to management that this restaurant be renamed Cafe Lo Siento. (My fiancee suggested that it should be Cafe la Woe. Or maybe Whoa?) But "sorry" is what you'll be if you eat here, especially considering the number of restaurants within walking distance on the main drag. read more

I was headed back to Jersey from Upstate Ny and decided to stop by downtown Nyack. I love the little town feel overlooking the water. I used Yelp to help me find a place. During our stroll down Main Street to check out the prospects for lunch we got drawn into the outdoor seating and music of Casa Del Sol. I forgot however to double check the ratings and inadvertently went in even though it was only 3 stars. (I have a 4 star 50 reviews rule personally) Anyway as soon as we got in I knew we made a mistake. The owner/manager was a white guy in shorts and all the waitresses were white. Nothing against white people (I'm one myself) but in a Mexican place I like to see a bit more Hispanic people in the front of the house. It gives me some faith that the food I'm getting is authentic. And of course it wasn't. Anyway, our waitress looked high and forgot the limes for our waters after being asked 3 separate times. The Hispanic busboy finally brought it over when asked once. The other Hispanic busboy was on top of our water refills too. Our waitress however proved to be pretty worthless the rest of the afternoon. The salsa was directly out of a can and the black bean soup looked and tasted like they opened a can of Goya beans, put it in a microwave then threw a few red onions on top. The quesadillas and the frittata were even worse. Needless to say I did not finish my meal. The only reason they get 2 stars is because the atmosphere is decent and the bar looks like it would be cool at night. I have tried to do my part to eat out at some of my favorite restaurants as frequently as I can. The pandemic has been extremely damaging to the restaurant industry and I hope to give back here with reviews of some if my recent experiences. First, Casa del sol. What a wonderful gem this Mexican restaurant is to Nyack. Going there on Saturday night to check out the local band and have one of their fine house margaritas was one of my favorite things before everyone had to close. I have been getting takeout from Casa about once a week and it is so good. The short rib tacos and generously stuffed burritos never disappoint. My son loves the mango habenero wings. And their sangria is out of this world. The servers and bartenders are always masked and very friendly. Please support if you can as they are so valuable to our downtown Nyack restaurant scene. read more
