I have tried to do my part to eat out at some of my favorite restaurants as frequently as I can. The pandemic has been extremely damaging to the restaurant industry and I hope to give back here with reviews of some if my recent experiences. First, Casa del sol. What a wonderful gem this Mexican restaurant is to Nyack. Going there on Saturday night to check out the local band and have one of their fine house margaritas was one of my favorite things before everyone had to close. I have been getting takeout from Casa about once a week and it is so good. The short rib tacos and generously stuffed burritos never disappoint. My son loves the mango habenero wings. And their sangria is out of this world. The servers and bartenders are always masked and very friendly. Please support if you can as they are so valuable to our downtown Nyack restaurant scene. read more

Nasty, full of attitude bartenders that act like you are bothering them if you ask for a drink. Otherwise place was fine!

Honestly have been to this place many times but just to the bar. Today I stopped in after a sunset walk with my honey. We just wanted tacos and beers. Our server rushed us through our whole dinner. He never checked on us. We kept making our order requests through the "bustman". The "bustman" took MUCH better care of us than him. We actually ended up tipping HIM extra because of his amazing hospitality. I would like to see HIM on the floor, he'd OWN It! The food was alright, not like anything authentic but It did the job and was just what I needed to get me through a margarita/beer. I'll stick to the bar scene. read more

The main reason for only 1 star is because of the food and drinks. The only positive to this experience was our server as she was great and attentive. We each started with a mojito and they both tasted very watered down and seemed like there was almost no rum at all. After finishing those we switched to wine and beer which were fine. For an appetizer we got the queso dip. It arrived hot with fresh made tortilla chips. The entire bottom of the queso dip was burnt and stuck to the skillet, there was SO much oil on top of the dip and it just lacked flavor. It was soooo hard to scoop up the dip on the chips because of how burnt the cheese was and we both couldn't eat much of the dip at all. For dinner we ordered a single shrimp and chorizo Mas taco ($6), grilled chicken fajitas and a chicken quesadilla. The taco just came out with chorizo and 3 pieces of shrimp on it, that was it. No cilantro, no Pico de Gallo, not even lettuce or sauce. It had no flavor but at least the shrimp were cooked well. The grilled chicken fajitas came with 2 sides which I got Mexican street corn and yellow rice. It also came with 3 flour tortillas, sour cream, Pico de Gallo, lettuce and guacamole. Again unfortunately the fajitas had zero flavor. It was as if they cut up a bland unseasoned piece of grilled chicken on top of a bed of onions an peppers that had been cooked in wayyy too much oil (and also weren't seasoned at all). The street corn was good but came out cold and the yellow rice was good and had more flavor than the fajitas. Lastly my girlfriend's chicken quesadilla came with 2 sides (she also got the yellow rice and street corn) and the plate of sour cream, Pico de Gallo, lettuce and guacamole. The quesadilla portion size was quite nice but again there was just a severe lack of flavor. The food at Casa Del Sol used to be good and I would go there often, but last night it was a HUGE let down. Hopefully they can turn it around. read more

After an unbelievably stressful day we found our way to Casa to try and regroup and relax. It was blistering hot so we chose to eat inside. We were seated right away, given menus, water and salsa and chips. Our waiter came by and took our drink order and gave us time to study the menu. My husband had the regular margarita ( he enjoyed it so much he has a second), I had the mango margarita (no mango taste at all, pretty disappointing). I had the chicken pasta with a chipotle sauce, which was delicious. The portion was huge, I wound up taking some home. My husband had the duck, which he also really liked, with the yellow rice and slaw. Be careful if you're gluten free. Because it had been a stressful day, we dropped the ball and forgot to ask if the duck was gluten free. It comes in a flour tortilla. The mistake was totally on us, but our waiter was so kind and comped one of our margaritas. As far as COVID, plenty of room between tables to feel comfortable. If your Mexican, you should be able to make a Margarita that's not cheap chemicals and Tequila, I sent it back and had a beer, and that may be the first thing I've sent back in 10 years. (so i'm not that tuff) Food was eatable, but thats about it, nothing to it than mostly bland fare, the rice was ok. read more

I guess the inside has a real Mexican feel. I didnt stay in i ordered take out. The food was blah ! No real flavors... for food picked up it was quite cold being that i live 5-6 minutes away. The only decent thing from what i ordered (taco, burger, fries ect. ) was the yucca fries. Probably won't eat there again! OH AND the regrows beans tasted like something spoiled !!!! Solid all around. I had three kinds of tacos, and some call margaritas. My wife had a nice mix of things also. Food was solid, great flavor, nothing to complain about. Server was professional, very friendly. Tables were actually (more than) 6 feet apart, and Covid rules were explained politely by hostess. Place was clean, a tad dark, but nice. Great ambiance, but way too expensive for what you get. The food is bland. Its food needs a good dose of salt. The best thing about Casa del Sol is the free Salsa. I will give them that; it's delicious. We come here maybe once a year to eat and leave each time regretting our decision. The bar is good for nightlife, though. read more

On an exiting Halloween weekend I came here to eat after a long day of trick or treating with my niece and nephews. Definitely a cute environment with the family. I must say I expected the food to be a little better, I would rate it a 4 out of 5. This spot is definitely an authentic Mexican restaurant, even down to mango margaritas (made with real mango) to even the red chips salsa. Everything is made fresh, which one can't complain about. I just wished the mango margaritas were sweeter though. I ordered the steak fajitas which were great I just felt like my dish was missing a little flavor. I would definitely recommend coming here with family, friends or even on a date night. The ambiance is warm with dim lighting. I also had the best waiter ever her name was Alexa she was extremely attentive and friendly. Anything we needed she was in top of it. I would definitely recommend her as your waiter for you to have a memorable experience. read more

My husband and I were exploring this cute neighborhood and wanted to stop by, have a few drinks and maybe have a small bite to eat. This has a small bar and spacious dining area off to the side. We were just in time for happy hour so I had a red sangria then a Margarita. The sangria was pretty good as well as the Margarita. We ordered the pernil with sweet plantain Mofongo and an order of Caribbean jerk wings. The wings were good and they serve a good amount of chicken. The other dish was just okay. My husband just told me to stop being nice. He thinks it was horrid. I think the pernil was alright and had a tomato taste more than anything. Normally, Mofongo is made with green plantains and not the yellow sweet ones so this was different. The Mofongo didn't taste bad but I think because of the pernil maybe it threw it off a bit. Overall, I wish I ordered something else besides that dish. The service was good and the bartenders were attentive. We had a good time. read more

Great example of "don't judge a book by its cover." The restaurant is beautifully decorated and from the outside looks warm and inviting-- just like Mexico makes you feel! I went on Yelp to read some reviews before I planned my bday dinner and for some reason I was not able ro click on reviews even though there were nearly 50 reviews. I took a chance and invited my family and we were greeted by friendly staff and was excited to eat there and enjoy the experience. Unfortunately, it turned to be super disappointing and my party of 10 was in agreement. While waiting for the food I asked the bartender if she would take a music request and play Mexican music-- I came for the experience and thought that was a simple request. What a back and forth that came to be! She told me the owner had control of the music and although he was not "here" she could not change it--- which is super odd! If it's a Mexican restaurant and you make money on such- the decorations, the food, the culture, it seemed as if the music selection should be fitting as well. It felt exploitative. I sat myself down and didn't want to ruin my bday dinner so I patiently waited for my Shrimp cocktail, enchiladas and margarita. The enchilada was hard to the touch as if the cheese had been sitting on it for some time and it was heated up, the margarita was sour and the shrimp cocktail was bland and tasteless. There was no cilantro anywhere to be found. Imagine that, Mexican food without cilantro. I will never travel to Nyack and eat here again. I'm sure your local, authentic Mexican spot is a lot better than this fraud of a restaurant. Go elsewhere. Mr. Owner, I hope you're reading this and consider some of my words here. Went there with a friend for late lunch "early dinner". I could not be more disappointed with everything, from the service, quality of food and drinks, and attitude of the waitress. Food was absolutely terrible and the drinks (Margaritas) tasted "like lemon with ice". Plus, very unpleasant service. NOT recommended. read more

This place used to serve a solid fusion Mexican food. Evidently the owner changed few years ago. So they now serve straight up mexican now. It's nothing extraordinary. Truthfully tho, it's not all that great; just passable. I miss the old casa del sol. read more

Was there a few years ago and was not impressed. Saw sign that it had new owner and menu, figured I'd try, as Harry's (other Mexican spot in town) is just way too expensive and bland tasting. I was very pleasantly surprised! Food was fresh with good flavoring. Portions were huge. Very moderately priced. Staff very friendly. Looks like they have good options/specials during the week. Came here with my club today for lunch after a nice ride up to Nyack from NYC. The chips and salsa were pretty good and we had pitchers of margarita at our table which we drank up really fast. Got our food pretty fast because we came in right at the opening time (noonish) and we ate up and were able to get out before the real crowds came. Good place. When I saw they had Hamburgers on their menu I was a little thrown off.. Maybe at some authentic Tortas instead? Or maybe an Authentic Hamburgesa Mexicana. I like this place's ambiance read more

My girlfriend and I came up to Nyack for a street fair. We are both trying to watch the high density carbs, so we were not going near the street food! After checking out the options along the main thoroughfare in Nyack we settled on Casa del Sol and were glad we did. My girlfriend had the taco salad - they were happy to sub shrimp onto it for her (pescetarian) for $2 extra. I had the adobo skirt steak - subbed potatoes for black beans. While the prices were a little higher than they should be, we were both very satisfied with the flavor of the meals. Portion sizes were adequate for lunch and service was quick and attentive. Very nice atmosphere and Vibe,decorated with Mexican decor. We arrived Sunday afternoon unfortunately it started raining. We really wanted an outside table but the staff was very accommodating.. The waitress mention there's a live band & karaoke on Thursdays and Fridays ,The food was OK definitely above Taco Bell standards, I truly enjoyed the Yucca fries and fried Plaintain's.. i'll say this the drinks were good I had a Mimosa. read more

Fake Mexican food. No home made Salsa , bottled hot sauce . I should have known once they said they don't have homemade hot sauce . Flour tortilla not corn tortilla. I just wanted to post a review with the new ownership. The food has improved immensely, the service is still good. The taco tuesday special is very good, and they generally have good drink specials most nights. The food is fresh and they are willing to accommodate any special orders. We have ordered the tacos, enchiladas and nachos. Our favorite menu item was definitely the tacos, simply seasoned and perfectly seared fillings. The place is pretty, its what called us in. The food was disappointing to say the least. The enchiladas where low flavor, tasted like they where cooked earlier and heated up. fajitas, the shrimp did not taste grilled, strange spices. Oh, Casa.....I haven't been here in almost 14 years and there's a good reason. The food isn't great. But the service was excellent. We ordered the Three Amigos appetizer to share. It was three dips: cheese and chorizo, spinach and artichoke, and refried beans. The cheese deep was way too rich and creamy (if there can be such a thing), same with the artichoke dip. The bean dip was fine. It was served with fried flour tortillas which added to the richness. To be honest, the free chips and salsa you get when you sit down were way better. For my meal I ordered the Cuban Fritas burger with a side of yucca fries. The burger was ok. The meat was a mix of beef and chorizo and was pretty tasty. It came with fried tobacco onions on top which sounded promising, but the onions tasted like they were coated in some sort of plastic chemical--it was an awful taste. The yucca fries were TERRIBLE! They were battered and covered in some weird cornmeal crust. I've NEVER seen yucca fries served like that and I didn't enjoy them very much. The mister ordered the fish tacos and could only finish one. He sent the other back. For dessert we ordered the churro tower. That wasn't bad, but the churro a could have used a more generous dusting of cinnamon sugar. We gave our waitress, Jenna, our feedback and she took the appetizer and one taco off the menu. That was very generous. Her service was very attentive and she gets 1.5 stars out of this 2 star review. We will most likely not be back. read more

I went here once for a taco Tuesday lunch and it was delicious! I liked that they had multiple vegetarian friendly taco options which is rare. Friendly service, reasonable prices, and great chips and salsa (my favorite part of Mexican restaurants). I feel like it's your standard Mexican food spot with a good atmosphere. We came to Casa on Sunday night. It was a great end to our weekend. The salsa was some of the best we had. The guac was excellent. I loved my chicken quesadilla. The fries could have been cooked a little longer for my taste. My daughter devoured her corn and mine so I'm assuming that was pretty awesome as well. Overall we had a great experience. Great waitress but food is pretty bad. This is American Mexican and nothing authentic about it at all. Wife got two tacos and they came out on a plate the size of a coffee cup saucer. Can you actually spare a larger plate??! No cilantro on the tacos - what the heck??! Yucca fries loaded with grease and clearly not fried in fresh hot oil. Small dollop of guac on the side of my plate was terrible. Tasted like they dumped 1/2 bottle of lime juice into it. All is all, pretty bad and will not be back. This place was such a let down!!! The waiter was slow and clueless! I always choose Mexican since it's pretty safe and usually pretty amazing! well not at casa del sol, we ordered wings, and tacos and guac. The best thing were the wings and that because they were probably frozen and all the place had to do was fry them. I mean even the chips tasted stale and were clearly from a bag! I wanted to walk out. The waiter had to be reminded 3 times to bring sprite to our table. If you are considering this place, save your money and go somewhere else! read more
