So so disappointed. A friend told me the pupusa were AMAZING here. They were okay. Nothing special. BUT the steak. Wow. I read the reviews when I was pulling up the menu and saw a photo of the steak. It looks delicious in the picture. So I ordered it to go. I get home and open the food. I have a dry & unseasoned steak. This meat was cooked for a dog to enjoy. I have never seen a place like this serve unseasoned meat. I am so disappointed I wasted my time and money here. I'll stick to la cascada in Nanuet Refer to the images below. This place checks all the boxes for an authentic, family run, home-cooked experience. The menu is a mishmash of printed page and handwriting, the staff and clientele are nearly all Spanish speaking, it is spotless for dirt and there is Mexican football on the telly. The food is good. It's not fancy, and that should keep the snobs away, but it has the essential combination of scent, visuals, taste and the inner warmth a cook who loves a dish can make. You can do the El Typico half chicken, tacos which my sons say are rocking, steak platters in all their various combinations, and these wee Jammie cake style pupusa things. A novelty for me, very popular in Latin America apparently, they are enclosed buckwheat pancakes with a choice of fillings. Some of which you've never heard of, so try them. This is grass roots cooking, and I am a fan. In a low sodium World, the tropical propensity for salt is punkette, the spice combinations are unfamiliar but pleasing. Part of the meal I ate was a little dry, but that's what the excellent salsa is for, and everyone at the table is coming back. There is no booze, which is a good thing in working mens establishments playing football, and the while the drinks selection is authentic it is limited. Expect to pay fifteen bucks a head per adult, leaving plenty of opportunity for a jumbo tip. Don't go if you are stuck up. read more

Hey this spot not huge on decor but BIG on flavor. This is my family go to spot when in a fix. This is authentic Latin food. The charcoal grilled chicken is seasoned to perfection and always tender and in point. Usually order whole chicken which they chop up and I get with rice and salad or black beans. It comes in a half tray and is enough to feed 3-4 people. The black beans are special. They are creamy and delicious. The other standouts on a cold day are there soups which are a meal and the Pupusas which are also authentic. I highly recommend this spot to go into your regular rotation. You can feed your family of four home cooked style food for $30. I bring this home 2-3 per month and slide through for lunch when I am in Nyack. read more

Going here is an adventure. It is a dive but I love the food and ambience. If you don't mind being the only gringo in the joint, this place is for you. Good hearty El Salvadorian cuisine and the best grilled chicken in Rockland County. I have no idea what spices they use but the chicken has a nice kick to it but not overly hot. One thing to mention is they serve with their main dish, like just about every Latin restaurant I know of, two carbs like rice and french fires, yucca or plantain. I make sure I always substitute one of the carbs for a salad. Try a variety of papusa's while you are at it. read more

This place was very disappointing. I was expecting much better based on the reviews. First off, the ambiance and the neighborhood were not off-putting. I live in Nyack and that part of town has always been sketchy. Second, I'm accustomed to eating at hole in the wall places that serve really good food. In other words, the two stars have nothing to do with those factors; they are based solely on food. I must also add that I'm Hispanic and speak fluent Spanish so the language barrier was not an issue either. Ok, so now that that's out of the way: the food. The chicken was extremely underwhelming. We ordered a whole chicken for two adults and a seven year old and it was barely enough food. The chicken was very small and had barely any white meat, which is what I like. We ordered the salad and the sweet plantains as our sides. The salad was nothing to write home about. Iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, radishes, and cucumbers. The dressing was a bottle of Wishbone Italian on the table. The plantains were good. I'm Dominican and we know our platanos and these were decent. I also ordered a pupusa with cheese, beans, and pork and it was delicious. The best part of the meal in my opinion. The service was friendly. If I could I would give this place 2 1/2 stars. I suppose I could have rounded up, but it really doesn't deserve 3 stars. Will not be returning. I can get equally good pupusas at Avispa deli down the street. read more

Hidden Gem. Authentic Charcoal Rotisserie specialist. El Salvadorian style to be specific. Hole in the wall in Nyack in a small shopping center on Franklin. Its right off of Main Street. Freshly made 1/2 chicken served with rice or fries and a salad or any combination of the two as sides for only $7. One of the best deals and overall values around because the flavor and freshness is just awesome. Very authentic. They have a big menu that offers, bbq shrimp, steak, tortillas, papusas and much more. Sopa de tortilla too! (tortilla soup..a Salvadorean delicassy) Usually pretty packed with locals and speaking Spanish helps big time. The ladies at the counter are very nice. They have Jarritos soda bottles! They Deliver. Succulent Charcoal grilled half chicken with rice and salad that tastes better than most $20 dish I had. It's only$7 here. This is the epitome of awesome food. Then there is that "however". However, this hole in the wall is quite dirty, and its not in a nice neighborhood. Clientele is made up mostly of people who hang out at Home Depot parking lots. Love this place, amazing pupusas, as well as The caldo de res. which is perfect now for the cold weather. Good authentic salvadorian food and definitely can't beat the prices. That great smell on South Franklin? That's this place. Hidden in a little strip mall, this place literally makes the best chicken in Nyack. This place is a true hidden gem. Authentic Salvadorean Cuisine, probably my favorite spot in nyack and i am a local chef. The food is delicious and fresh. The neighborhood is the neighborhood, deal with it. make sure you try a few things, as all is good. The platanos con crema are probably the best around. I usually order 1/2 chicken with salad and rice, tamales, enchiladas (salvadorean style, not a mexican enchilada!), platanos, and or tacos. If you enjoy great food at a great price this is the spot. Okay, Nyack local here and I agree with the others, awesome food. The corn tortillas are totally homemade, (yum!) I like the half chicken with black beans (amazing...truly) and an order of the sweet plantains (about the best EVER!!!) . I ask for a few sides of pico de gallo (homemade and wonderful) and lime. I put the chicken and PDG on the corn tortilla and moan with sheer happiness as this is my favorite kind of eating. For breakfast (under $7) the Huevos is ridiculously delicious!!! Not sure about the coffee....I've been a foodie in and around this area and have driven past what I would describe as DUMP for over five years! Now I honk, and scream and blow kisses!!!!!! Great local place for authentic Salvadoran food. The pupusas are really good. Their tamales are big..they have veggies and one big piece of chicken or egg (egg for non meat eaters) inside instead of being spread throughout the tamale.
