Love, love, love this place. This riverside Mexican restaurant is a non-nonsense, "ma & pa" style place with tasty Mexican food and yummy (strong) drinks. Tony and I stopped by the other day on the way back from a day of shopping at Woodbury Commons. If you head over to Playa, I recommend sitting outside (if it's good weather) OR in the bar. Karen, the bartender on the night we visited, is amazing! As for food, everyone automatically gets chips and salsa upon arrival (the way it should be). And stand outs for us included the single-layer nachos (we added chicken as our protein), the combo plates, and the fajitas. The sauce on the fajitas was some of the best we'd ever had. I think it must have been árbol chiles and guajillo chiles (?) that gave the dish such a rich, orange color. But our minds were just blown by how good the fajita sauce was. Oh, and we ordered the mixed fajitas (shrimp, beef, and chicken). The combo plate I ordered including a Beef Chile Relleno (yum), a small Been Burrito (yum), and a Chicken Enchilada (yum). OF COURSE it was served with rice and beans (more yum). It just blows my mind why such a combo is hard to find in all of NYC. But, luckily, just a few short miles away, we have Playa Cancun... and we will be returning to this place soon! read more

We got there at 7pm yesterday for Cinco de mayo celebrations and we were told the wait time for a party of two is 30 minutes. After me and girl waited for one hour for a table a kind gentleman donated his table after he felt bad for us sitting on the floor and that's when the nightmare really started happening. For starters we had to hunt down our own waiter (mind you being right smack in the middle of the restaurant) which eventually getting ignored and ghosted us after she took our order and never came back with our entrees we didn't even eat dinner after realizing that it was almost 10 o'clock at night. I came here twice with friends - a good thirty minute drive from where we live. Food was amazing but the fajitas were a little soggy. I prefer my vegetarian version to be crisper and not soft. The drinks were good and guacamole was good too read more

Nice venue with very good service. It's a " go-to" in Stony Point. Had the fajitas which were some of the best I've had. Will definitely return when I have the hankering for Mexican which is rare. read more

I only went in for a drink and some appetizers with my husband. The place is beautiful, surrounded by water. Definitely a nice vibe. The staff was very friendly and welcoming as well. They accommodated to our preferences and how we wanted our quesadillas. The only drawback is that they don't really have any happy hour specials. Everything is the same price prices are a bit on the high end. But I don't mind coming back and trying their dinner. read more

One if my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. I was hesitant at first as i never really had an authentic Mexican food. My parents and sister told me try this one time. And OMG why did they not told me about this place sooner?! Aside from food they also have a very mice view! Came here for my birthday and it did not disappoint. The steak quesadillas were to die for, the steak was so juicy and tender and ugh amazing 10/10 no notes. Also got the chicken fajitas and they were good too but nothing came close to the steak quesadillas. Upon entering, being greeted with a smile and walked to your nicely decorated table you are served tortillas and sauce and even offered more. Two friends and I stopped in after hiking at Bear Mountain. We were grateful that they accommodated us at an outdoor table after a small wait. At our request they turned on the propane heaters which we really appreciated. The tables could've used a little more spacing but by the time we were escorted to the area, other diners had already left so we got the full 6+ feet of space from other diners. Playa Cancun's menu is substantial! All types of enchiladas, burritos, tacos etc. and all of the food was well spiced and large in portion. They also have some epically sized margaritas. It is really good Mexican food. Unfortunately the service was a little uncoordinated. Each stage of dinner was struck with some sort of delay. The waiter seemed to be slightly confused or forgetful about what drinks we ordered and then it seemed like the bar took a while to make the drinks. One of my companions asked for a spicy sauce. It was forgotten so she had to ask again. Another server stopped just short of handing us another table's order. I couldn't help but notice the glitches pile up. Cannot comment on service or ambiance as we ordered food for pickup. Not only were all four dishes not authentic Mexican food but prepared by someone who never tasted much less cooked Mexican anything! Both dishes pretending to be steak were some weird flat pale meat that defied description. The dark mole with chicken had no resemblance to a real mole sauce and sort of tasted like a ketchup base. Everything was covered with a ton of sautéed onion probably for bulk. The rice and beans were less horrible than the rest of the meals but nothing note worthy. Total waste! read more

The customer service was horrid. We waited for our utensils and water. We ordered fish tacos and a taco salad. The worst ever. The fish taco has more sour cream/ mayo than ever. When asked if we can get something different, the manager said, "No.". She brought the menu over and ask me to read the menu and descriptor of the Fish Taco, pointed over the food, talked over the food, and attempted to take the plate. The Taco Salad was made of lettuce, thin sliced cucumber and reddish. There was no ginger sauce, peppers, tomatoes, avocado, or onions. It was bland. The large margarita drink was good. Never again will I go to this restaurant because of the poor service. read more

A must visit Mexican restaurant near Seven lakes drive. We stopped by for lunch and the indoor was pretty busy. They have outdoor seating as well but since we had our pup with us and it was pretty windy that day, the owner was very kind enough to accommodate us in the tents they use for dinners only. He even brought in a heater and placed it by our table. This world definitely needs more people like him. As good as was the customer service, so was the food. Complimentary chips and salsa was good. The nachos were quite different than other restaurants yet very tasty. They looked more like a pizza. The veggie enchiladas had a really good flavors. Thank you for the amazing service, Playa Cancun. Nice view of water from across the street you can see it from inside in the main dining area and there's an outside area for seating in the parking lot. Flight of margaritas was really good. My favorite was the raspberry! Think it was kind of expensive- they didn't have the drink prices listed on the menu. I liked the enchiladas but the rice wasn't my favorite. read more

The food was great. The drinks were good. The service was abysmal. We NEVER got our second round of drinks. Our server was very attentive to the party next to us and made sure she got a beer for herself (we saw her drink it as she walked into the kitchen) but she never checked on us after the food was brought out. Waters were never refilled and we could not track anyone down. I'm disappointed with the service we received - because every other table seemed to be doing okay. She blamed the runners for not delivering our drinks but I find that hard to believe 3 drinks would just be left on the bar. I never heard of this restaurant until my cousin invited us for my aunts 80th birthday party. I am a huge Mexican food lover!! But I'm always partial to my one favorite place. But I have to say, I fell in love with the chis and salsa here!!! Sooo good!!! The restaurant is adorable too! We had friendly waitress and waiters too. I ordered the tacos and they came out perfect! I couldn't eat my whole plate because I stuffed my face with chips and salsa but they wrapped my meal up and I took it home to have for dinner the next day.
